Nice write up I could have definitely used this many times in the past. Is the reason to use 7g agar instead of 10g so that it's a little softer?

I always thought about doing this rather than making slants but wasn't sure how it'd work.

I'm curious if it would starve without any nutrients in long term storage.

Only one way to find out

I just hate slants :crankey: ..  They never come out the way I want them to.

Still gonna make some just in case anyway but I pray these are my last slants 4 evaaa

I never tried slants cause I figured it wouldn't come out right for me. I've always just made super thick no pours that last forever in the fridge.

That's interesting stuff. Nutrient agar transferred to a water slant grows out some then stops when it runs outta food but stays viable for a yr or two

I think WA is just good for getting away from bacteria. Molds are still gonna grow on it.

Outdoor clone I'd say goto nutritional plate first, isolate the mycelium you want then goto WA to get away from bacteria, then back to nutritional plate.

I'm not sure. But the theory here is that the bacteria doesn't grow out from the transferred piece. So if you grab some myce that has grown out towards the edge your going to get something clean. I suggest transferring while back lighting in a dark room under magnification if possible.

I miss Rotn

Usually water agar is a tool used when you have a bacterial infected culture. While you can probably germinate spores on it. I would personally germinate on regular agar first.

Just remember this tek wont help with mold contamination cuz it's mycelium and will grow on WA. This tool is only for bacteria.

It's probably gonna look real wispy and difficult if not impossible to distinguish from the mycelium you want. If you think a culture has mold, regular agar would be better at feeding it so it shows stronger characteristics that allow you to transfer away from it easier. Just my opinion.
