The Noosphere
    #2789442 - 06/13/04 07:47 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

This is a theory of collective conciousness I picked up in a book.

The left hemisphere of our brain is devolved to logic, it is the numeral brain. The right hemisphere of our brain is devolved to intuition, it is the brain of form. For a same information, each hemisphere will have a different perception that can emerge to absolute contrary conclusions.

It seems that, during the night only, the right hemisphere, unconscient adviser, by the mediation of dreams gives its advice to the left hemisphere, conscient producer, the same way that in a couple the intuitive wife furtively gives her opinion to her materialist husband.

According to the russian scientist Vladimir Vernadski (who also invented the word "biosphere") and the french philosopher Teilhard de Chardin, this intuitive right brain would be equipped with another gift, that of being able to plug itself into what they call the "noosphere". The noosphere could be represented as being a great big cloud encircling the planet just life the atmosphere. This immaterial spherical cloud would be composed of the humans' unconscious emitted by the all the right brains. The whole would constitute a great general unity, kind of like a global human Spirit.

This is how we think we imagine or invent things when really its just our right brain that finds them in the noosphere. And when our left brain pays close attention to our right brain, the information passes and emerges into an idea that becomes fit to take a concrete form, a form of acts. According to this hypothesis, a painter, a musician, a poet would only be this: "radio receptors" able to draw from the collective unconscious with their right brain and then let right and left hemispheres communicate freely enough so that they can set to work concepts that are hanging out in the noosphere that are at everyone's disposal.

I think this could also explain, along wih many other things, the part in Waking Life with Ethan Hawke, when they talk about how once someone's got an answer to a crossword, then the answer's just out there for everyone to pick up on.

There are phenomena you could take and explain using this model, but is there anyway to prove this?

This vision is theoretical, just like the vision of the biosphere. Yet the biosphere is something that is becoming more and more aknowledged throughout the world.

"Just as biosphere means sphere of life, noosphere means sphere of mind. This can only point to the evolution from a material based perception of life to a spiritual one."

A theory cannot explain a fictional movie segment.

its an interesting thoery...

it can be said that when a person is on mushrooms, acid, and occaisionally mescal (or really any other psychotropic)  that people have seen and experienced a "web" or "cloud" that surrounds and connect everobody they see, could this be a visualization of the noosphere?

whilst traveling on mushrooms, i often think i see the collective consciousness!

here is a link to my first ever mushroom trip and trip report from a while back... towards the middle it illustrates something quite like a noosphere.

thanks for reading

That's sick Todcasil,
do you think taking E before shrooms helped seeing this? In other words, have you seen this "membrane" whilst tripping on shrooms only?
and also, was the membrane actually following people? was it kinda attached to them?

i just thought it was interesting Wa7sum, the similarities many peopel have can be astounding!

(also, yes i did have similar experiences on journeys involving only mushrooms, thats just the only one i have made a trip report for, back when i first joined the shroomery.)

the membrane usually just surounds everything, though there was a time once, when bantering with a very intimite freind that i saw it get stronger between us, the more we read each other and played off of each others thoughts!  very intense!
