Can this be explained?
    #2789162 - 06/13/04 02:54 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Tonight my husband and I decided to take a brief nap together, since we were both really tired. I drifted off, caught in the place between wakefulness and sleep, when suddenly I heard a loud "buzzing" (an electronic) noise in my head. Immediantly beside me, Kevin jumped, one of those sleepy twitches. I didn't think anything of it, but then it happened again. The buzzing noise and simultaneously, Kevin jumped. The exact same time. It happened twice more. I didn't wake my husband up to tell him about it, since he was sleeping and everything, but needless to say it was difficult for me to go to sleep after that. I had no control over the buzzing, it just "happened."

It was so strange.

Another strange thing that has happened, is that I'll be thinking of a song in my head, and then Kevin will start singing it, or vice versa, when there was no way to know that the other was thinking it. Keep in mind that these are songs and music that we haven't listened to in months, very old songs. It's just very odd to be thinking about a song in my head, and then have my husband start nonchalantly singing or humming it.

I'm not suggesting that my husband and I are telepathic or psychic or anything, but I am also unable to come up with a feasible explanation for these events, however minor they seem. Could it be that after being around Kevin for so long, we just read one another extremely well past the point of language? Does anyone else have another explanation?

thanks

That's what I suspect too...

But I was wondering as to what would be the "scientific" explanation. I was especially curious as to what skeptics would say.

*Is* there a scientific explanation for this?

You and your husband have been exposed to much of the same personal and cultural stimuli, so it is not so strange. If you truly believed it, try thinking about some obscure song from another era such as the 30s or 40s. Tonight think of "On the Good Ship Lollipop". If he starts humming that, I will be duly impressed and just might be convinced that something esoteric is going on.

It's definately completely random when this stuff happens. I guess the odds are good that indeed every once in awhile, this could happen naturally as a result of social upbringing like you said. What about the "electric buzzing" I heard and his jump that immediantly came with it though? That was truly bizzare.

I don't discuss that because it is vague and difficult to reproduce, but the song thing is v-e-r-y easy to check out. If you are mistaken about the second, you may be mistaken about the first. Your hubby may have just been responding to a muscular contraction or intake of breath or fear pheremones or...
