For a long time, the US State Department acknowledged Taiwan as part of China, and even put such language in the opening paragraph of it's fact sheet on U.S. Relations With Taiwan.
We very recently removed that language, as it seems we want to make Taiwan independent of China.
What do I think is the right answer? I think we should ask the people of Taiwan what they want. All the polls I've seen are very confusing, as only a minority of Taiwanese say they want independence, while a majority say they want to keep the status quo. But an even smaller amount say they want total reunification with China.
So if anyone has any better polls, I'd love to see them.
Here's a recent article from the Guardian.
Mood shifts in Taiwan as Nancy Pelosi visit raises fears of war The Guardian 2 Aug 22
So why is the Pelosi visit significant? Because China issued a red line warning telling her she doesn't have China's permission to visit.
But hey, we were willing to cross Russia's red line in Ukraine and let the Ukrainians fight Russia on our behalf, and it seems we're willing to do the same and let the Taiwanese fight China on our behalf.
In this case, China chose not to go to war, but I suspect there will economic consequences.

I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

If Taiwan is willing to fight China on our behalf then why in the actual fuck do you need a poll to know how they feel ?

You can’t even call her visit ham fisted diplomacy. It’s arrogant.
Why is she even going? To help? Give her a broom she can sweep the floor then fly home on it.

It will kinda be like Ukraine, we will supply our shit to Taiwan. That's what this visit symbolizes, in my opinion.
Of course China may saber rattle with drills and maneuvers but an actual strike would be suicide. China, as it stands today would loose in a military engagement with the US.

I don't know how willing the Taiwan military is to fight China. War isn't up to the soldiers, it's up to the politicians.

In typical Falcon fashion - you portray this information as if we were considering ROC/Taiwan part of the PRC - while it was the PRC we considered part of the ROC/Taiwan

We should let china have Taiwan, it's not worth getting into a war with them over. We just need to get TSMC out before china moves in, for strategic reasons.

I quoted the State Department. If they were wrong to consider ROC/Taiwan part of the PRC/China, complain to them.

Who says we have to go to war with them? The idea, collectively internationally has been to make foreign occupations and invasions too costly for any country to undertake - and thus reduce overall aggression and conflict. It's worked against the US, USSR, China, Germany, and numerous other powers all throughout history. Quote:

We probably wouldn't go to direct war to defend it at this point, but the blunder of trying to take it by force would be (despite the seemingly overwhelming odds, and smallish island) multitudes more harrowing for China than Ukraine has been for Russia.
Ukraine has been preparing for the eventuality of a Russian invasion for about 8 years, with US help only recently.
Taiwan has been preparing for the eventuality of a Chinese invasion for about 70 years, with US assistance the whole time - and a military budget about 3-4x Ukraine's

I thought about this.
At first i was glad to hear it.
But nancy is such a corrupt person im actually worried what is really at play here. She might be looking for another move to make money or takeing steps to ensure her parties plan of world domination and destruction.
Im sure she is probably rubbing her knuckles right now to the idea of Taiwan's people at war with china.

What did Nancy's 'vanity project' (they were the words used by a political commentator here this afternoon) achieve?
As everyone is now probably aware it was the most-tracked live flight of all time. That's how concerned people around the world were, regardless of the low odds of a Chinese missile hitting her aircraft.
Taiwan has now had sand and gravel used for concrete barred from import which will hit their construction sector, as well as trade export bans imposed on food products by China, their largest trading partner. Good work Nancy, but please, stop helping.
Most disturbing though is the live fire training drills that will now happen thanks to Pelosi's grandstanding.
Check out the map, that's where the live fire will be happening. If one of those missiles hits Taiwan by accident do all the 'but Nancy stands for democracy' fans think this stunt is worth the gamble?

You think it's rational or acceptable for China to strike Taiwan over a little old lady flying there ? You really need to stop complaining about the US .
