Crappy Pinsets
    #2786929 - 06/12/04 12:57 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I've been growing for over a year and am somewhat experianced but i've been having pinset problems recently. My cakes are producing only about 1 shroom per flush and I don't know why. I'm doing EQ, using perlite to keep humid, fanning three times a day with 12 hrs light/darkness. What can cause such small pinsets over time, and what can I do to start increasing them?

Try lowering your temps a little bit. Beyond that, I would move on to cloning.

Why on earth do you suggest that?? Something is causing him to have bad pinset. He might as well figure out what the problem is. Cloud, what are you using as substrate? also, are you casing or doing PF??

Yes I am generaly getting only one large shroom, but not more of a large medium sized shroom, nothing special. I'm using BRF cakes by the way.

Try using grains next time, and make sure the cake is fully colonized. You should see significant differences (from my experience), also I highly recommend casing. And if you don't wan't to mess with that at least dunk & roll.

You say 12/12 on light. What kind of light? I've found the brighter the better. You might even move the cakes to where they can get some diffused sunlight each day. Even direct sunlight for a few minutes is a good thing. You might try some damp verm on top of the cake too. That seems to help with pinsets.

Personally, I'd suspect that the moisture content in your cakes is low, either from low humidity or somewhat less water than they needed when you made 'em.

Try and dunk-and-roll-in-verm, and see if anything changes.

the best advice I can give you is to move away from cakes altogether but if you wanna stick with brf at least case......its MUCH easier to control you pinset with a casing layer than cakes...and the yield is so much better
