simply question
    #2788141 - 06/12/04 03:38 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

hey i live in the panhandle part of florida weather is nice 90degrees with afternoon showers here and there.
havent found many active yet though. only like 5 or 6 over a couple days. these are huge fields also.
and ive been to a couple different ones aswell.
also the Copelandia cyanescens
are everwhere here, but they just dont seem like they are active, ive pick a good bit of them without any effect. and they look exactly like the picture
http://www.shroomery.org/images/23488/70977-good_cope.jpg

so im not sure whats up with that.
and like i said the only active also seem to have a black ring around them so is that the key? do the copes need to have the black ring as well? or should i be looking for something else?
the copes are everywhere though. patches and patches. very confusing.
any help? thanks.

Many copes look similar I've been told. NEVER eat something you've picked by a picture alone. Phenotypes in mushrooms seem to vary depending on habitat and other factors. Have you taken a spore print of any of these?

read the FAQ, it is very helpful.

what do you mean by "Phenotypes"?

also copes do not have a ring.

Cyans bruise blue within 30 seconds. Did the pans you pick bruise blue?

Cyans are much more potent than cubes so it is hard to believe that you didnt trip off of them.

Sorry buddy but cyans do not have black rings around them. With that kinda ID I sure wouldn't eat your shrooms.

Neither Psilocybe cyanescens nor Copelandia cyanescens have black rings around them.
