How long can I preserve cakes in water?
    #2787726 - 06/12/04 02:31 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hi, this is my first post. In July I will be away for about a week and I was wondering if it's okay to dunk the cakes in drinking water for that long as opposed to 24 hours so that I can start them back up when I return? Unfortunately this is my only option other than just throwing them away.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Why not just leave them in the jars w/o water but keep them in the fridge to chill while you're gone?

yeah, i think you should just not birth them yet, and wait to dunk when you get back. letting the jars go an extra week when 100% colonized is actualy a good thing, just keep them out of the light.

I've had fully colonized cakes in the fridge for four months before with no problems. Just be sure the jars are fully sealed
