pedro rooting
    #2787226 - 06/12/04 09:30 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

ok, so i have a san pedro cactus rooting....I dipped in the hormone about 1.5 weeks ago and planted it in the dirt about an inch deep, the specimen i started with was about 8 inches long. It gets sunlight through a window about 10 hours a day, My question is is this sufficient? do i need to do anything else?

What direction is the window and most likely no. Meaning not enough light ,in my experience with san pedro growth is very slow from window light. It will grow but, not as fast as it could outside. If your in the right enviroment

The best thing to do is put the Pedro outside in full sunlight. You don't need rooting hormone on them. They root by themselves just fine. I normally put the callused cutting in a good draining mix and let it sit for 2 weeks before thinking about adding some water.

You'll know when they root and start to grow. Just watch the tip.

if it's not used to full sun slowely acclimatize it or it'll sunburn...maybe start by just putting it outside for an hour for a few days...then maybe two...and so on till it's outside most of the time....

...really though I don't see anything wrong with your current situation, though I'm no expert..what kind of soil are you using exactly?

Not more than 2-3" deep is what I plant mine at. If it is a tall cutting you can put a thin stake next to it and loosely tie it up with a piece of string. If it is a smaller cutting (8-12"} I would go ahead and put some stones around it. The stones will keep it up while it fully roots.
