I’m on unemployment improving health, need advice, I’m slow, ssi?
    #27863195 - 07/14/22 11:47 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I recently started unemployment in CA. The goal is to improve my health before I go back to work. So far I’ve quit cigarettes, and started exercising but I still have lots of issues I need to improve. I was born with a lack of oxygen I’m naturally a little slow, bad short term memory. I can only hold jobs that are easy, easy cashier jobs, easy restaurant jobs. I’ve been fired/quit because a menu was too complicated or my memory wasn’t good enough for the job. I need jobs that are easy on the mind. I am a hard worker with a good attitude.

So the plan is to ride out unemployment as long as possible to improve my health and life so I can get better jobs.
Should I plan for easy but better paying jobs?
Or should I try to get on some sort of ssi or disability?
My family at one point thought I should because I always had gaps in employment. But I did recently hold down an easy cashier job and now I’m on unemployment.
Should I tell the state my situation? Could I do some sort if brain scan or tests? I could show them my taxes, for example I’d have a job for a few weeks then it wouldn’t work out. So that year I would have like 10 short term jobs that year. I have like 4 recent years that look like that.

What should I do?
Several years ago I had an older sugar momma. I thought of putting myself out there and doing that again. Honestly it’s all for good reason. Or I can try my best to toughen it out and hope my mind gets better as I get healthier.

If you have difficulty keeping a job like cashier, then you should probably get on disability. Disability is meant for people like you who are unable to work. It's not a perfect solution, but if you can't keep a cashier job in the long term, then it's really your only option.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but it sounds like you've at least made an honest effort. I've known quite a few people that are on ssi that shouldn't be, but your situation sounds like ssi would be a good option.. just go in to it knowing that most people don't get approved the first time they apply. don't be discouraged.. getting denied the first time doesn't mean that you won't be approved if you try again.

I did know one person that got a lawyer to help them get on said, and they got approved right away.. I believe that they had some sort of payment plan arranged where they lawyer got paid after they got approved.. I'm not sure if that is an option, but there may be some resources available in your community that could help you with the whole process.

I wish you the best and hope that you're able to either get approved or find a job that is a good fit.. keep your head up
