Beautiful fruits Mycelium Juice  and I wholeheartedly agree Nats rule!

I observed something strange happening in one of my cloned culture jars... I got a fruit growing inside the jar even though it's not fully colonized. I know this is usually a sign of some kind of contamination, but generally the jar looks good.
Is it possible for fruits to show up inside the jar without contamination being present? Or should I rather bin it?

I've never seen that in a jar of uncolonized grain and your nat culture has been nothing but clean for me.

Hell yeah Fridgedoor! I think I might actually take a page out of your playbook and go for a strong tea every few weeks.

Sounds like a science experiment to me :dancingshroom:
I say shake that shit and see what happens? You're right.  We all know that's usually a sign of contam somewhere- but we talking nats here :magichat:
I just birthed some 2 month old bags of nat grain spawn last week that had mushrooms growing...not like yours though-
but they are coming along swimmingly.

That jar looks clean af otherwise..mayhaps a shake will prove it's worth :mushroom2:

My first Natalensis substrate. Ms, Spawned July 5th.

Looking any good? Overlay look like it may inhibit pinning at all?

Hoping for some good clone material from this one

Thanks guys , I think I will make it a science project and roll with it as long as it looks healthy otherwise.

Mycelium Juice, I can really recommend a medium dose with these from time to time.
It kind of gives my mind a reset and helps to maintain a positive outlook in life. I say try it and see if it has a similar effect on you too .

Tweeq, I am sure you'll get fruits to clone from that tub.

Yeah that looks perfect, just keep waiting and it’ll pin they can be slow sometimes. And like he said they just pop through the myc a lot of the times.

Notes on Nats....

  • 100 out of 100 think this mushroom is better than cubensis.
  • Micro-dosing it for 3 weeks now. Macro'd 4.5 + 3 grams an hour later in late May.  Beautiful. Either way.
  • The afterglow is real and much more with nats than cubensis.  (very noticeable difference microdosing)
  • What I mean by this is that a micro or macro amount of nats seems to be a better medicine than a micro or macro amount of cubensis.
  • What I mean by that is that you'll benefit more and essentially get more positive results from nats vs cubensis.

  • The lack of darkness is real.  Nats are a golden god compared to cubensis steel/iron.

  • They won't stop fucking growing. My 4th/or 5th flush on a 66 quart hanging in the kitchen waiting to be thrown out still produced over an ounce of dried nats that looked like this:

Them bitches stretched are a foot long :super::mushroom2::rocket:

Do you cut or break off/tear from the sub when harvesting them? I usually cut my cubes and leave stumps but I've seen less per flush after doing that. If you're getting an ounce dry in that late of a flush I'm going to follow your lead on what to do. By the way I put the spores from your Nat swab giveaway on a slide and see all kinds of activity!

A little from column A and a little from column B, Bigworm.
I don't get mad if I pull up a little soil, but try my best to just cut as close to the sub as possible.
This is from observations made between the two ways as well- I was getting pretty lazy at one point and pulling my harvests more than snipping...
there was a noticeable difference between subsequent flushes and it seems that snipping close to the sub will leave a better environment for the next round or 3 :magichat: almost every time.
Also, though I fought them- I've come to realize liners are a net positive and help retain moisture for later flushes too.

Here's what I was working with for this last flush.  The tub looked pretty spent after the 2nd flush, but somehow keeps pumping them out.  And heat doesn't seem to be a problem.  I'm sure my kitchen was over 90 degrees a few days- which would stall/ abort most cubes- but nats, once again, don't seem to give af

You can tell they are growing more from the even spots than areas where substrate has been pulled.
2nd pic you can see the sub reclaimed some loose nubs too- which I had snipped off while harvesting. I thought I was tossing the tub so just threw them on top a few weeks back.  Nats took it from there and reclaimed.
Thought that was pretty cool and aggressive.

Sounds like the right kind of activity!!!  Awesome to hear- was going to put a quality control warranty on those too as they were from a new batch of swabs.
That's really good news! :mushroom2:

I think you're going to do great once that charcoal takes a walk BlueAndOrange.
I had similar experiences with it when I tried it w/ cubes.  A few great, beautiful, strong growths...and a lot of faint mycelium that seemed to hate it

If anything you did us all a solid by figuring that out for Nats if it does end up being the case.  Good luck with the new round!

Thanks for the input! I been experimenting with both ways of harvesting and it's very apparent they don't mind taking over the stubs so I'll probably go with cutting. They look good so far, going to transfer them in the next couple of days. They look clean too which is a plus. I don't understand how people here can get clean spores but venders are usually contaminated somehow.

If you got a swab jam that shit into the agar. Get it all wet from the moisture in the agar and streak away. When you get done streaking the plate jam the thing back into the agar and snap whatever you can off the stick to be able to close the dish back up. It only took 3 days for it to germinate on the one I did that to. The others I just streaked still haven't had any activity at all.
Prints I just scrape the print right over the plate until I can see spores on it.

I will be thrilled if my repeated failures adds to the collective knowledge. I’ve learned so much here and been given so much by this community in terms of help and spores that it’s nice to have something of value to give back. My work is so busy this week I probably won’t be able to make agar until Saturday, but Saturday I’m pouring sleeves of 35mm Petri dishes and inoculating up a storm with multiple agar recipes. I’ll get some clean strong mycelium yet.

Not for nothing but there is one trusted vendor here that I seem to get consistently clean MSSs from. Almost never see a contam from them. They’re one of the vendors that’s been a supporter here for over a decade, and have MSSs packed with spores.

I have a dozen plates now growing nats from a MSS from them. 9 germinated already. 0 contams.

OK, so holy shit, mother of god, my new favorite mushroom of all time (almost) is...Natalensis!

OMFG what a sweet trip. And the CEVs are out of this world.

I was in bright light mostly through the whole trip except when I had to pee so I don't know much about OEVs, although I did experience some and they were intense.  The CEV's I mostly got inside in the dark but they were breathtaking - alien architecture from the future and so much more, stuff I've never seen before with any other mushrooms, just wild shit.

My dosage was from acidified tea made a couple days ago from a couple of second flushes mostly like this:

And carefully calibrated over the course of a few days of mini-dosing to be equivalent to 2 g dried.

That's right, 2 grams and all the doors opened up.  Did I mention these are my new favorites?

I let the flushes go longer than usual because they wanted to keep growing long after the veils broke, testing to see if potency would also increase, but the answer was no, gram for gram the older flushes were less potent than the first which I picked earlier, just like everything else is.  Not unexpected but I had to try it since the myc itself bruises blue and is active...

The dose worked out to 20 ml of tea, which is an easy swallow by any measure; I don't want the smell to go up my nose so I chase it with apple juice and then throw in a rice cracker to nullify what taste is left.

The trip had far more content than I can - or will - relate but that's how trips are, of course.

So here's to Nats, and the future!

:seriousthumbsup:

Oh yeah my favorite of all time is still liberty caps.  Nothing can beat them IME. :awesomenod:  But these come very close.

I find Nats have a serious malt smell and flavor to them, my house smells like horlicks when I prep them.

Agreed on the libs primal, they are also incredibly beautiful mushrooms.

@PrimalSoup I'm glad to read your report this morning. I took 2.5 grams in tea form last night, and that wasn't enough. So I'm feeling tired and disappointed this morning.

Especially considering the amazing trip I had with Semperviva 2 weeks ago.

But reading what you wrote here gets my hopes up for next time (in a couple of weeks to reset everything). I'll up the dose to 3 grams maybe.

Also, the ones I used were vac sealed for a month. But when I opened them, they were bendy, not cracker dried like when they went in. First time this is happening to me, so it can account for it.

I was surprised because even in tea form, it took 1h15 before I could feel the effects and have CEV.

On a good trip for you guys, how long does it take to get CEV with Nats?

I'm looking forward to my next try with Nats!
