karo straight to casing

i have this idea,i plan on testing it out unless someone else has tried it.Using a karo tek,the mycelium already colonized in the karo jar,PC a jar or two of substrate, let it cool, place in a bag, break it up,make a regular casing layer, take a syringe, suck up some myc,put all of it on the casing layer, whatever is in the syringe, then put substrate on top, suck up so more karo myc, innoc the substrate in maybe 5-10 places, put some verm on top.is this way out there for mushroom cultivation?since theres enough myc in the karo, its easy to spare, and if its already myc, then whats the harm?maybe even incubate the casing, cover it up,maybe it'll take some time out.i dunno, anyone ever try something like this?the myc will have even more food and/or it will quickly colonize because the myc is already developed, and if your generous with it in the casing, how could it not grow? crazy idea???

I have been wondering this myself, I plan on doing an experiment with an outdoor bed soon. I don't see why it wouldn't work since the myc is already established. The only thing that I question is if the spawn grain itself is needed to colonize the substrate quickly enough to fend of contams. Anyone else out there done any experimenting in this way????

i thought since you could be generous with the karo myc,you could spread it around, and mix it up in the substrate,or in zi1iz's situation, the spawn grain.i would think if there was a large amount of myc,it would also recover very fast and be able to fend of contams all around even when its not fully healed.if gets pass one spot, another karo spot will take care of it.Any idea's out there?

I don't think this would work. As soon as you have uncolonized substrate exposed to the environment, the chance of contamination is huge. Unless you carried out this procedure in a sterile environment and a sterile incubating chamber, the casings would contam.

yes, like is said in your OTHER post. you'll end up with a bag of contams. the contams would just LOVE to colonize that karo.

i was talking about an extremly sterile procedure. Also if there is lots of myc to be spread around, wouldn't the risk of contams be cut down slighty or greatly. If not innoculation, shake up a jar of karo myc, open it up,spread it around above and below the substrate thats cased, and since your casing, you could even mix up the substrate with the karo myc, couldn't you?

experiences with karo? [Re: tnecseda]

does anyone have experience with large amounts karo mycelium and growth or anything like that with casings, spawns,or even cakes?wheres the room for contams if at most try to do enough sterilazation. If the karo myc is grown no contams,PC a substrate for about an 1,should be no contams, introduce karo myc and substrate in a sterilized casing mixture(bake casing mixture, boil water, add little bit of h2o2 for extra precaution),put some verm on top, place in sterile incubator/fruiting chamber, and while doing all of this have clean hands, and also the myc is already developed, and there is alot myc in the casing,so there is alot of sterilty, there seems to be a smaller chance of contams with that kind of procedure in my mind, but what do you think?

would anyone think it depends on the substrate?

what if this was all done in one day, aside from the karo myc,PC'd substrate staight to casing?

I am not sure about using this method indoors, if extremely sterile procedures were used it might work. Now outdoors on the other hand is more possible imo, since the outdoors can eliminate most contams in the first place. It would be nice if anyone has tried this in one form or another, so I think an experiment is in order. I do think that using honey water in place of karo might generate more success.

I would think that one of the largest risks of comtams would be when you are opening it to check in on it. You can be a little lacksidaisacal when the substrate is colonized, but with an open field, you'd have to be extremely careful on how you'd gp about checking it. You could easily introduce all kinds of stuff. Just my 2 shits worth.

clear incubator?or just leave it alone a sealed enviornment with a cool mist humidifier and hope for the best, lol.i dunno.i think i might try that out.i know alot of people like the experience of checking out if everything is ok,but i dunno,i'd like to have a lazy project when a "hard working" one is going on.it'd just be cool to innoc some karo, wait a few days, make a substrate, case it,then you'd be a week or 2 ahead, maybe weeks, who knows???
