They're actually filter disks, the patches are on the bags. I've used them on jars with just metal band, but you should have a somewhat humid incubator to prevent drying of substrate. It's probably better to use plastic lid with a 3/8" or 1/2" hole drilled through it. I just took off lids to inoculate, so people drill extra hole through patch and lid in another spot for inoculation and tape over it.

Thanks for the mycological compass point. The door is open and I'm off to search for Mycellia, the city of my dreams. But before I go, one more question-
I got some PC Eq spores from Hawk, and sure enough, as some of the recent posts indicate, there were some contams present per some of the strange blotches on the petri dishes along with the white fluffies. Has anyone tried carving out a piece of the agar with the apparently good mycellium and transferring that piece to another petri dish and watching again for contams, or this just mental masturbation?

Them not busy bein' born are busy dyin'.

Yes, that's the main purpose for using petri's, to single out healthy mycellium and get it away from the contams. I believe ryche will replace those syringes for you if you let him know.
