Honestly, though, can you think of anything more truly American?
This shit doesn't happen anywhere else. This is a celebration of American culture.

Sad, but true.
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

It is apart of the American culture, there are costs to having the freedom/ right to own firearms.
-------------------- “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Nobody in the modern world understands why mass murder is the cost to have freedom.
Most modern countries have more freedoms than the US. Without the mass murders.
Go figure.

Nothing feels quite as free as fearing for your life while doing normal everyday things. Right?

That’s just a small fraction of the shootings and murders that happen in Chicago every weekend. At least 60-80 people have been shot In Chicago this weekend alone

shootings are a regular thing nowadays, if you aren't in a dangerous area the fear of them shouldn't prevent celebration on days like this.

Well, you know, it's all for the greater good. So what if a couple people die? Or a couple dozen. Or a couple thousand.
This is about saving our freedoms! (well, not the dead guys, but, ya know what I mean, OUR freedoms, they don't count)

why bother having different views on the way a group of people should live, just accept the current way of life and be happy.
no need to fight a war over slavery, lets just let each state make their own rules about it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. Certain people feel the need to inflict their beliefs on others. Like by banning the choice to get an abortion, or banning restrictions on gun ownership.
EDIT: Or, actually, to use the slavery example you bring up, one of the explicit reasons that the confederates started the civil war was because northern states would refuse to catch escaped slaves and ship them back south.

they take away little by little cause they know what happens when you try something big. Is abortion a big step? certainly less than what caused our civil war, a right to own another person because capitalism.

Unfortunately, mass murder/ killing/ destruction is a prerequisite to obtaining and having freedoms, one only needs to look at history for this.
Most countries don't have the freedom to own firearms like the USA. Like I said, most rights/freedoms have a cost.

For some reason the cost in the US is always higher, and the payoff is always lower.
Must be something in the water.

I'm not sure the Civil War was fought over slavery, but it sounds good.

Must be something in the water.
That something may be a generally violent culture perpetuated by the Military Industrial Complex, by police and those in authority, and other social forces. Gun ownership isn't the biggest or only factor.

1. Highland park isn’t Chicago. It’s a yuppy suburb on the north side and the average income is $160k
2. Y’all are ignoring the other mass shooting from yesterday in Philly

There was another mass shooting in my hometown about 40 miles south of Highland Park at the Weathertech warehouse last week. But only one dead, no white people involved, and definitely not a yuppie suburb, so only local media attention. My best friend was working in the building an hour earlier.
