Those crosses are what I planted. I moved them into pots outside. I'm also starting some at my dad's Wedding cheesecake auto cross Orange sherbet auto cross Strawberry mimosa evo cross Gorilla cookies auto cross
They were from seeds in the flowers on the plants I pollinated. I pollinated certain branches but these seeds were not on those so I'm not sure who the other parents are.

is there anything i should put around the outside ones or on the soil surface to keep pests away? ive been spraying neem oil mixed with lost coast plant therapy. thats keeping the live ones from being eaten. i wonder if i spray the soil it will keep things off of the surface.

You don’t want plants sucking up the neem , then getting sun 🌞 Light sprays can help keep bug pests at bay, and use hydroton rock balls for hydro as mulch layer, they don’t harbor pests and wick water to feeder roots better than crust style dry surface of soils.

That’s fine for now but when they start flowering You should check out the organicide 3in1 stuff.
It works pretty well. Dude one year I had bud worms!!! Ahh that’s what got me all the way together with pest prevention. Then it was freaking white flies! Have you seen those? They multiply so fast it’s unbelievable!

My first plant is going well I think. Today is 30 days since germination. Can I prune off some of the original fan leaves that have gotten big? I have just been trying to tuck them under so the shoots can get through. It would be nice if I could just cut them off. Or would that have a negative impact at this point?

Do you know the purpose of leaves?
Photosynthesis requires leaves.

If the bigger leaves are blocking the light from the main stems, isn't that bad?

The function of stems is to hold the leaves up to the light, so no, that's not bad. Leaves make the energy and building blocks for the plant so it can build buds.

i remove large mature fan leaves that block light to bud sites. especially towards the inner of the plant. also helps improve air flow. and allows the plant to focus on new growth vs making old growth bigger.

The image isn't loading fully so I can't really see. Is that 30 day plant topped? If not, I'd say the tucking is working because it looks shorter and bushier than average. Just stick with tucking for now. The right combination and timing of low stress and high stress training is something you learn over time. There's no right or wrong as every situation and plant is different. Don't be afraid to experiment. Can use twist ties and stuff to help train them. As long as you're not getting airflow issues where the humidity is building up, more leaves the better IMO. After you're done with veg and a week or so into flower you might want to prune any leaves that are shading buds.

I'm pretty sure they are supposed to get neem early before the sun and evening after the sun.

Yeah I don't know what's up with the image. Here's it again with a better example of what I want to cut. I'll try to just tie it down though. I'm already doing heavy LST because I'm growing in basically a space bucket.

Looks like you're doing a great job, especially for first plant.

This is a vegging plant, it needs leaves to grow not bud sites. You can encourage branching but get those fan leaves out there to absorb the light.

I would be careful who you listen to on here…. Yeah, for sure you can pull off a couple fan leaves, just don’t go crazy with it… the plant will grow more to replace the ones you took, and it will allow you to shape the plant how you want it… my favorite part of growing nuggets is training the plants! Love it!
I kinda do a “lollipop” style training but I leave a little bit more on the middle and thin down flowering sites so the nuggets that l do let grow get chunky…
Edit: my bad derrayled. I was sayin that to pizza wizard…

I would personally wait for a bit with trimming. I'd set the grow lights a bit higher so they can stretch a bit, then when they have started stretching a bit remove the fan leaves, then bring the lights back down again, encouraging the plant to grow into a larger bush, allowing more space and airflow for bud sites.
