Mindloop
    #2784326 - 06/11/04 11:30 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Whats the way to stop the mindloop? Its not that I'm scared of it, but it seems to always lead me to trip inside of my head instead of tripping with friends and I dont want that to happen on my next LSD trip even if that is the only way I can modify the trip. Well, maybe just eating less is the key

That is exactly what kept me from enjoying a trip with some friends the other night. Total thought loops, useless, mindnumbing, and completely destructive to any fun I could have At first it was mad fun, lots of giggling, laughing, and acid insanity. But the thought loops came, I recognized them, and still couldn't let go. My fear is that I'll die. Well, I'm tripping again tonight. I'm going to try to deny those thought loops. If my mind picks up on one, play some music, hit some nitrous and some pot, and change the pace. We should keep this thread going for different ways to get out of those damn thought spirals that lead nowhere.

That is what causes bad trips, in my opinion. Rather than deny the loop, surrender to it... don't worry about death or anything else... just let the loop take you away... It is just a drug and you will return... but the insights gained can be very enlightening.

If you fear death, you're gonna have a stormy relationship with psychedelics.  Accept death

Trying to fight a thought loop is like trying to swim against a river current. As hard as you might try to swim against the current, you'll just remain in the same place. Just let go and let the river carry you away. Or, just simply get out of the river all together. This is easier said than done, but if you're able to distract yourself you should be able to pull yourself out of the loop. Whenever I find myself uncomfortably lost in a loop, I gather up my friends who are tripping with me and ask if they would like to take a walk. Long walks always get me out of loops.

The best thing to do is, in my mind, to both give yourself to it -- accept it -- and move somewhere else.  Usually you get distracted on the way.

Yeah, you've definatley got to go with the flow. I myself am not really a 'social' tripper - I rarely talk to anyone much during the peak period of my trip (about first 3 hours for shrooms, first 6-7 hours with acid) even though I often trip with groups of people (like at raves or something).

When I'm tripping I'm tripping and thats pretty much it, I don't worry about doing activities (except trancing out) or having a 'fun' social time. I find that the best way to get out of a 'mind loop' is to ride it out. You say you're going to try to resist it, I say try the OPPOSITE of that. Try charging into it, let it give you everything its got...confront it, take it into consideration, let it lead you where it will.

I find that if I just go with the flow of any thought loop or whatever, it develops, it changes out of itself and moves on progressively, and I tell you, it is always amazing coming out the other side after having that wave wash over you. It is the time past the peak that I often get more sociable and have a lot of fun especially from being so energized just by the amazingness of life and this reality!

I guess it depends what you're into really. I'm a psychology student and I'm into psychedelic trance and shamanism etc. so my idea of a good trip is often a little different to others. But one things for sure and thats if you resist, somethings not gonna be quite right.

Resisting a thought-loop is almost a sure ticket to a bad trip. Every time that I've had friends start to wig out, they mentioned later that they had started to have repeated thoughts that unsettled them. I started to realize that friendly interaction can sometimes help but the key is for that person to let go and freely be lead by the mind-loop. If the mind-loop is accepted then there can be no conflict and thus no bad trip.

Also, it should be noted that not every trip will be all flowers and candy canes. With psychedelics you are exploring your own mind and sometimes there is turmoil and doubt. Be ready to accept what you find(Accept the knowledge of, not the faults) in order to change what you can.

Well, I am new, I had done shrooms three times and I've never experienced these mind loops but it seems as though you become lost in your thoughts, scary or enlightnening lol, I had never tripped alone, and every time I shroomed I become awake, alive, social good experiences so far.

I think what is infinately worse is when the loop seems "outside" of you. I'm talking about major, major VISUAL deja vu, where every moment of everything in existence that you see seems to be on repeat, forever. I had the most terrifying experience of my life when this happened while tripping.

That's -exactly- what my heaviest trip was.  Everything that happened was what had happened before.  It was ... hard to endure.  But it lead me into some interesting places, eventually.  You've got a lot of time to think when every minute is forever.

chains of thought can feel like bondage circling your head.

the same may be perceived differently
(lovers card #6 -Tarot)

one thing has a resonance to another, and memory is trained to retrieve by these resonances when you look inside.
when you look all around, gently, the connections that are followed are also interesting.
everything pulsates or strobes, and leaves trails.
ego trails are as beautiful as visual trails, let them be.
all natural.
much to learn by observing,
no need to interfere.
looping might get sticky if you feel a need to interfere.
that is natural too.
