I experienced sleep paralysis today for the first time * 1
    #27818086 - 06/13/22 06:36 PM (1 year, 7 months ago)

I woke up from a day nap because I didn't get enough sleep from the weekend... the paralysis lasted about two minutes. I woke up, laying on my back with my head turned to the right, I felt a hand which I thought was my own left hand touching/poking my sternum(my bf was at work so it wasn't him lol), I was desperately trying to move both my arms and couldn't. Then all of a sudden I was able to move. I'm still questioning if I really was awake at that moment because it really confused me. Has anyone experienced sleep paralysis upon waking up before?

I called a psychology centre because my sleep hasn't been going so well for a couple months now and this was kind of the cherry on top to finally reach out for help since I'm also struggling to wash my hair on a regular basis and it's affecting my daily life, causing me to cancel tons of plans and work, putting me in a shitty mood about how useless I feel not being able to do something as simple as wash my hair. It's weird because when I finally just take a shower and wash my hair I feel great afterwards, realizing it really wasn't difficult to do(cause it's not), but then I go through the same experience all over when it's time to wash my hair again, I'm just tired of it.

I’ve experienced it quite frequently & fairly often.  Hallucinations go with the territory.  Look into the states known as hypnogogia & hypnagogia, they normally occur soon before falling asleep and soon after waking up.  If it occurs on the tail end of sleep I generally feel cranky / tired / like crap for the next few hours of the day.

A fantastic book on the subject of hallucinations is one by a Dr. Oliver Sacks…aptly titled “Hallucinations” / which covers the aforementioned 2 states as well as other natural near universal causes & conditions of hallucinogenic states in human beings throughout history.  I digress but It’s an epic read.  A must read for any tripper imho&e.

I've experienced periodic sleep paralysis for many decades. It is often accompanied by a scary or disturbing dream where I am being touched in a way I don't want or a dream where I feel threatened somehow. It's an unpleasant thing, and I've just tried to accept it. I'm paralyzed during a part of a dream, and as a wake up, I try to move but I can't, and then eventually I can move, and I fully awaken. I often experience sleep paralysis when napping. I'd say it's at least 75% of the time.

In several studies that looked at sleep duration, individuals who slept for less than 6 hours or more than 9 hours at a time were most likely to experience sleep paralysis upon waking. Napping was also linked to increased chances of sleep paralysis episodes

Yes I've had it but not lately as I don't tend to sleep on my back which I think makes it more likely to happen. I used to get "night terrors" as a kid which I think is the same sort of thing where you hallucinate/sense the creepy presence in the room with you at the same time. I seem to remember they think a lot of "alien abductions" are really just sleep paralysis because people see aliens a lot. Also didn't the word "nightmare" come from the idea of an old crone sitting on you whilst you tried to wake up. I've had sleep paralysis since but not with the sinister presence-glad I don't get them anymore!

If you really don't like it you need to sort your sleep out as it gets made worse by irregular sleep patterns/lack of sleep. Try not to sleep on your back or take naps. There are also ways to break out of it if it happens but I can't recall now, I'll have to look it up again.

For me personally, although it can be scary I know it is a great way to launch an OBE and get out of your body so it's actually something I try for and I know enough about it to not be scared these days. I can understand if you just want a normal nights sleep though!

Yes!  It can be a good way to OBE.  I find anything that causes those sleepy time ultra intense rapid vibration feelings to be excellent for that.  Same for the “roll” out your body move.  It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity for that but I’m always waiting for the next.

I think I might have had an OBE with my right hand and arm, that was the only hallucination I had where it came out of my real arm for a second because I was trying to move it so hard and I woke up a few seconds after.

I used to get it all the time where I would feel paralyzed and feel imminent danger but not be able to move.  One time it felt like an alien had me in a rear naked choke and was hissing in my ear.  It happened so often I went into fight mode instead of fear mode.  It finally just stopped.  I’m not 100% convinced demons aren’t involved.

I had a tall dark figure walk to the end of my bed one time and stare at my gf.  That was a little concerning.  That’s when I learned about the Hat Man.  I’m not real big on being startled awake, especially when unable to move.  I lived in a house out in the sticks with some verified bad shit in it’s history and a lot of strange things happened there.  I know people say that a lot, I’m not trying to convince anyone because it did happen..  that place had bad juju..

Oh yeh the vibrations are what you need-I've not quite mastered it, but I've had them a few times and I think they have sometimes led to an OBE. Mostly from taking Galantamine, which I can't get hold of very easily now. Yeh people get freaked out by the vibrations too but none of this stuff can harm you.

Yeh I was gonna suggest you might have felt your dream/astral arm moving, cool huh? Lucky you!

Been a while (that I remember anyway) since I've had sleep paralysis, but I have had it. Back in high school. I still remember it clearly. I was taking a nap by the TV, woke up (kind of) but could not move. For the life of me. I could see the room, I could see & hear the TV. But I was just locked up. Like I put all my strength into moving and just couldn't do it. At least for the short time, anyway.

Weird feeling.

Take 1g of dimen hydrinate every day for a month than run out, you will have sleep paralysis 3 times a night, its scary

One time I was super pissed at my ex cause I seen her up and reading a book while I was in scary land and she wasnt helping me fight of the demon

OP sounds depressed the doctor is going to suggest seroto in supplementation

when the dividing line between waking and sleeping becomes ambiguous, consciousness becomes remixed.  becoming both disassociated and not, and both here and there.

sleep paralysis is much more common in cultures that have a widely known folk belief about the phenomenon, such as the old hag folklore of noufoundland.  this points to the fact that the expectation of the sleep paralysis experience shapes what is seen and how it is interpreted.  in medieval times, the paralysis may have been associated with a succubus or incubus, in modern times, it may be associated with aliens.

the expectation initiates a dramatic effect in the brain, which is itself embedded in the body.  if you can enter back into a dream while having sleep paralysis, you may be able to enter a lucid dream.  when a slip is felt, this is where the passage to the astral is thinnest.
