It was utterly iiiiinconcievable to me that Trump could win an election, til he did. It has caused me to rethink much of what I thought to be true about American politics. Bernie's run had the same effect. The actions of the Democratic party in recent years have ensured that I will never identify as a Democrat again.
Having good arguments and political views is not what American politics is about. I'm at a loss as to what even motivates the average American voter to show up and vote. I know that Republicans have managed to tie religion and white pride with their party. I guess those are motivators. What motivates democrats to show up and vote for... Hillary?
Seriously.. I just don't understand.

More people voted for Hillary than trump.
Imo it’s naive to be upset the dems didn’t want to run Bernie. They didnt have permission from their republican masters.

It's hard to tell now what the political climate will look like then. Lotta big things will reach thier final conclusions by then. I suspect e war atrocities in Ukraine will have reached some type of outcome and all the pending lawsuits and investigations into trump will have played out for the most part. I suspect with all the serious legal matters pending he's not going to be able to pay everyone off like he's done in the past.

I must admit, I was quite naive back in 2016. I'm sure there are things I am still naive about. I don't want to allow myself to get too cynical. That doesn't strike me as the correct reaction, but it is a natural one. Cynicism is not the opposite of naivety.

Hmm, that's the sort of wise, and masterfully articulated, concise, yet potent response I've come to expect from members of one particular political faction on this forum. You sure told me!
What are you even doing here? With your keen wit, bold style, and undeniable intellectual prowess, you ought to be teaching advanced political science courses at Yale, Standford, or Big Bend Community College!
I must concede, I do not possess a mind so nimble, as to be capable of refuting your point.

When I was in high-school I took a technical class for aviation maintenance. Part of the class was riveting. In fact, we spent an entire semester working on our riveting skills regularly.
I may not be a leftist wing nut, but I've done my share of riveting... I guess is what I'm getting at.

And when all the men were away at war, Rosie had to do the riveting.
Many women were quite upset when they were told to go back to housekeeping after the war.

...
My father is a fabricator. He's 74 and still works in his shop daily. He has a massive riveting setup because he finds them to be an elegant solution for many problems. Like many these days he uses pop rivets instead of hammered rivets, it still takes a huge set of tools to do it right. He built a racecar in the 70's. It's a fairly small and light race car, it has 15,000 rivets in it. We still have the car and race it. The rivets that attach the stressed panels along various tubes that comprise the semi-monocoque are spaced at .5" intervals and staggered 45 degrees meaning there is actually 4 rivets per linear inch. Every stressed panel is attached like this, but also bonded with glue. The car is a fucking nightmare to work on. The last time out my father said if I crash the car he is putting it back on the wall (where it hung vertically as a show piece for 20 odd years) and never touching it again. It is just too much of a pain in the ass to try to fix with so many rivets.
I imagine assembling airplanes was a lot more fun than repairing them.

The only push rivets I have ever used were with an air compressor, and a fairly simple pneumatic tool. In highschool, we did it oldschool, with an air hammer and handle held anvil type tool.

Wingnuts are an actual thing that have nothing to do with airplane wings . They are nuts that have little wings on them so they can be tightened by hand .

It was a joke my dude.
I actually helped build an airplane and wings have many nuts. Usually AN style interference locking nuts. But I do know what a common wingnut is.

Neither do all planes. I recommend one always brings along a parachute, or a very large bird, when flying, just in case.
