hard drive recovery
    #2784014 - 06/11/04 06:33 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

I accidentally reformatted a partition and I'm trying to recover the files. I downloaded GetDataBack and ran it and it found all my lost files but it doesn't let you bring them back unless it's registered ($69). Now I pay for my share of programs but I refuse to pay this for a one time use to fix something which is Microsoft's fault in the first place, not mine.
Can anyone direct me to a free hard disk recovery program or how the hell to navigate the shit maze of warez to find an old version of getdataback or an updated crack or something. any help is appreciated.

it's microsoft's fault that you formatted your partition?

The findNTFS utility can restore files.

just tried it but it didn't work. tried two versions. both gave different errors. I'm debating whether to cough up for the full price or pay for the $10 getdataback at warezstore

What errors did it give, and what parameters did you run it with?

I guess I should say the partition file system is FAT not NTFS so it probably wouldn't work anyway.

fntfs132\Findntfs.exe 1 1023 1 1 files files.txt
It begins searching for a while then in the dos window it gives this:
Valid cluster KB not found.

fntfs145: Findntfs.exe 1 1023 1 1 files files.txt
It immediately kicks out of the dos window and in the files.txt file it says this:
FPART441.LIB needed in Windows 95/98/ME not found.
FPART441.DLL needed in Windows 95/98/ME not found.

Oh, ok.. no wonder it doesn't work if it's fat.

I appreciate the link Toad. The cracks go from v 1.0 up to 2.2 but I looked and looked on the web and couldn't find any old versions of the software. Current is 2.3.1. Thanks anyway.
