Messinrg around with coconuts * 4

why throw away a perfectly good coconut??

sprayed coconut with the hose, then drilled a hole in her and stuffed her with a mix of coir and spawn. the coir had been siting in a pot in my backyard for a year or two, neither the coir or the coconuts was pasteurized. coconut was left outside under a bush

after a few days you could see the mycelium had made some progress

got a couple pins, nothing crazy

i know it will eventually colonize the entire coconut,  but the shell is hard and definitelty slows down the process a lot.. so i grabbed some more coconuts

chopped em up with a machete and hatchet. definitely not the easiest thing to do... i need to get a woodchipper or something

tried to get as much of the shell and meat out as i could. also tried to shred the fibers as much as possible (i gave up after 5 minutes. woodchipper pls)

dug a hole, threw some in with about 2 or 3 quarts oif grain spawn, cant remember exactly how much. then sprayed with a hose

i put a plastic "mat" thing over the hole, this is a few days after

probably hard to see fromthe picture, but if you look an inch or two down its densely colonized.

should get some fruits soon. getting some rain would be nice.. but ive been spraying it with water every day or two.

if i had taken the time to really shred the coconut(woodchipper) it would have been much better but i guess this was a proof on concept.

i like coconuts
