Is that a chunk of overlay? I like the blueing. Nat overlay is quite potent based on my limited experience. 1g-1.5g of it had us full blown tripping a couple weeks back. Now I harvest every bit of it I can when I take down a flush. It dries up to nothing, but it packs one hell of a punch 🥊. It is like the natal version of PE blobs.

Today I passed by my compost heap, which I bury used substrate blocks in. It's winter here, with night temps of below 4 degrees celsius. It's a single fruit that showed up, but it's a fruit.

All same aka 21 culture
All visible mold/contam at surface during fruiting stage
All three playing "even" or to a stall against the mold, finishing their flush without problem.
Fruits looking fine too.

shameless cross post from pic-of-day:
Couple Nat test trays (i.e. all that survived cultivator incompetence ), plenty more on the way (properly this time)...
4 days in the FC, 8 days in casing run (from the strain in my sig, should be true to type but showing more overlay on straight cased grain):
A couple days in the FC after 10 days casing run, this jar had some contam but it ate it (the sole surviving G1 of "wavy Nats" pheno, so I'm pumped to see what it produces):
Seem quite happy at 80 degrees so that's a good sign for summer grows.

Damn bro dats some serious cont Nat flush!
In the larger dicussion and evaluation of the shroomery, id expect this to be called trash flushes and just middling results. But whats interesting to me, is how the natalensis seems to be contending with bacteria and mold through creating a mycelial "shield" and in general continuing fruiting, and "making it acceptably to their first flush", more reliably with even or worse spawn, than most cubes do.
I think we're at the stage where if the best growers of shroomery, kept isolating out the typical mutations and imitated popular phenotypes of psilocybe cubensis, from natalensis genetics,
we either have the new better homegrow/bulkgrow indoors strain, "replacing cubensis strains", or a true better subspecies. With the full variation. Enigma, PE, brainiac, all varieties. Genetics are weird so hard to be definitive.
I say that because recently reading the adv. mycology thread about the ape/natal cross where the guy explained his process and sorta proved it was a cross. But the problem was the ensuing discussion, some parties then claimed the succcessfull cross being an argument favorable towards they being very close geneticallly, maybe so close that they take most of true novely out of the "another subspecies of psilocybe".
But when you add: "another subspecies of psilocybe that is possibly more potent at all stages of growth, easier or just as easy to grow, at high temps, and possibly more resistant to contamination" we at least could argue that if the genetical analysis shows that natalensis is a true different subspecies, and actually south african or locally originated differently from cubensis.... we have two indoor super species. Cubes - and natal.
