Mushy ID
    #2776713 -

It has been raining a good bit the past few days, and I went hunting in the middle of a storm. I have heard many people say cubensis grows wild here (Scarcely, it's a bit dry) but I haven't found any yet. I've spent around 4-7 hours hunting total, and I inspect every cow pie I see, checking for any form of mycelium growth.

The mushroom was growing on a cow patty which had lots of pinning which all had light brown/red specs on the top. It was the ONLY full grown mushroom. I didn't see any other cow patties in the field that had full grown mushrooms on it similar to that one, but I did see several that had the same type of pinning. I saw one patty with solid white mushrooms growing on it, including gills. If anyone knows the name of a mushroom like that, just a suggestion, that would be nifty.

Habitat/Weather - Central TX

Characteristics of the gills:
Color - White when spores were wiped/rinsed off, very dark brown/black otherwise.
Attached/not - Attached
Gills/pores - Gills

Measurements of cap and stem - Cap was approx. 3-4in wide

Characteristics of the stem:
Color - A shade of white (way lighter than tan, but not PURE white), with the remnants of a veil which was a very bright white. No spores on the remnants of the veil, it was raining hard.
Texture - Smoothe
Hollow/solid - Fairly solid, kinda "bendy," but not much. It broke when I twisted it without problems.
Thin/thick - half an inch to one inch thick

Characteristics of the cap:
Color - Light White, about the same as the stem, maybe slightly darker
Texture - Smoothe, not slimey. The dark spot didn't peel/rub off when I ran my fingers across it.
Conical/spherical - ?
Convex/concave - ?

Spore print color - Dark brown/black, kindve a dark violet. It was hard to get a print since it was so soaked, so I just rubbed it on a paper sack. Don't base your ID on my spore print color alone, I really couldn't tell you what color it was without a good bit of doubt in my mind that I could be wrong.

Color that the mushroom bruises - I completely forgot about bruising and tossed the mushroom after taking pics, stem I tossed immediately after picking.

Scent of mushroom - Smelled like a mushroom...

Pics are hideous, I know. Sorry.

I'm 99.9% positive it wasn't a cube, I'm just curious as to what kind it is. I went on another hunt today actually, found tons of stuff growing in wood. Even a few mushrooms that were completely underwater; I got a few pics, but the camera I was using was horrible...

It is defently NOT a cubensis. Its most likely some kind of pan. Im sure everyone will agree with that.....But as to the species I have no Idea.

it looks to be like some sort of a panaeolus. the violet/black you described about the spore color is usually what happenes to any pans i find. Myabe were just slightly stoopid and cant just see thats its pure black. but even the subs i find have that purplish-black tint to it sometimes. probably just bad lighting my guess.
