um.... mynock invasion?

Remember that scene in Empire Strikes Back? In the asteroid cave with the mynocks that do the jump-scare on the Millennium Falcon's windshield? Yea - that's what's growing in my jars!
So what is this??

These are lame cell phone snapshots. I did take a better picture with my real camera when I birthed the jar, but I haven't downloaded it yet. I'll add that picture tomorrow if no one has a clear "oh yea, it's this" answer.
Thanks everyone!

Looks like you got lucky. Those look like stones. Wait until someone with more experience than me answers your question.

That’s bacteria having its way with your jars. You aren’t going to see stones with cubensis.
Edit: Wait, are those pf jars? I think I see some pins in there. Either way, they look pretty rough.

Yeah, they look like Pf Tek jars.
I'd birth them. You may end up getting something from them. Especially if boozie is right and it's pinning already.... I kinda thought the same thing, but the more I look at the pictures idk. They definitely look rough, but it never hurts to give it a try..
I'd start your next project asap

Arite... Here are a few pictures of that cake after I birthed it. Very, very weird looking.

I did go ahead and give it a coconut coir coating - it's colonizing the coir nicely and I'll probably(?) get at least something from it. But more importantly, now that y'all can see the "naked" mynock - is that bacterial?

Well, it doesn't look like pinning anymore
Honestly, I've got no idea what the hell that is, but if you're going to try fruiting I'd do it in a ziplock or something separate from the rest of your grow...
That thing looks like it's going to come alive and f--k some shit up

Wet bubble maybe...
Could be a mutation. Gt is prone to cannibalism if left too long in the jar.

Maybe worth noting that it smelled just fine - tasty and mushroomy, just like the other four jars that I birthed on the same day.
I don't EVEN know what's going on with it. I'll post pictures of any interesting developments...

Was just about to ask about the smell!
Lots of metabolites in those jars, but pretty clear. How long you have them cooped up?? Those cakes look pretty shrunken down. Slimy-looking, funky growth for sure though, never a good sign.
Since you already mixed ‘em up, might as well see what happens though!

They were cooped up for a long(!) time. I can check my log book for exact dates, but it was definitely "long." This is my second-ever grow, and I was trying to hold out for seeing pins before birthing cakes. I'm less and less convinced that it's a good idea to wait for that!
Hmm... maybe time to deploy the rest of my half-pint cakes... (I also inoculated some pints, just to see what would happen - but they're not yet fully colonized.)

If I inoculated through 1 hole in the center, I birth right after 100%colonization. If I inoculated around the edges, I'll let it consolidate for a week and then birth..

It's just cannibalism then. Like sclerotia but not exactly the same.

Would you harvest that spot then, or just leave it?

I would do neither.
I just toss out old spawn like that. It never really preforms well enough to be worth my space I'd have to dedicate. It's easy enough to just make good fresh spawn. A couple weeks forethought isn't hard to muster.
My recommendation to someone not wanting to loose effort or with the space and time to spare, just birth it out, chunky stuff and all and see what happens. That growth is just a way for the cake/colony to bank nutrients in hopes they will eventually escape. It is a sign that they have eaten all their food and are now in super emergency long haul conservation mode. Desperation can sponsor some fantastic flourishing behavior in life forms sometimes, emphasis on the sometimes, and sometimes life like that will really jump into gear once it has obtained it's freedom but often doesn't have a lot of energy left. Magic and your ability to observe the results you are wanting is really what it comes down to with cakes like that. It does amazes me sometimes the depths of forgiveness I witness in cultures I have neglected. As if they are trying to teach us what love is or something.
I like to just use healthy fresh spawn.

OK... pulled out my notebook and took a few more pictures.
5/21: Inocultion day - three injection points per jar. I inoculated some experimental pint jars, just to see what would happen, but the "real" jars were a dozen wide mouth half-pints, six each of Golden Teacher and B+.
5/30: All jars doing well, though a few of the injection sites were "blanks." Several patches large enough to be meeting their neighbors.
6/2: Pints growing more aggressively than half-pints, possibly because I injected slightly more into the larger jars. The mycelium appears to have more difficulty colonizing the bottom ~1" of the pint jars, possibly because I "tapped" them on the counter to settle the substrate and that compacted it too much. Turned pints upside down.
6/9: Nine of the twelve half-pints appear fully colonized. I regret turning the pints upside down - the aggressive rhizomatic growth stalled and turned cottony as soon as I flipped them. *sigh*
6/19: Still no pins, but one of the Golden Teacher half-pints has a strange cauliflower/brain/mynock growth at the base. Birthed that cake, plus two more of each variety (five in all).
6/23: After discussing with Shroomery, decided to birth remaining cakes. Original mynock-GT is colonizing its coir nicely:

It's a good thing that I popped out the remaining cakes. All three of the Golden Teacher cakes showed varying levels of mynock growth:

None of the B+ cakes are affected.

That's definitely the route I'm going! This is my second grow, and I figure I'm still on the very (very!) steep part of the learning curve. The more mistakes I can run into, the better!
