How do you determine when to buy and sell contracts?
What patterns do you look for ?
What are your favorite tickets ?
Do you play both ways ?(giggittttty)
Do you only trade certain hours or days ?

I used to trade options some. I was dismal at swing options though it can be done. Intraday directional index fund options are great when there's a lot of liquidity and volatility is not too crazy. I used to use emas for entry points for trend continuations and mean reversion stuff. Unfortunately the environment radically changed about the time I got the time to actually trade so I pulled out (giggity) to preserve capital.
I'd imagine large cap and index fund option trading was relatively easy for most of the 2010s. Now it's like fighting a Terminator.

Not being mean but if have that many questions you need to read some books or take some training. It's a tricky damn game and need a solid plan and discipline.
I like buying leaps and writing calls on it.

I read this book one time with the student guide for problems. It's a math book. Options are applied calculus for MBAs. It's stupid hard. I got lucky a few times, but it's something best left to algos. I do better in craps than in options.
That said they are extremely effective hedges in some situations. Not now where the vix is hanging around 30.

Looks like OP hit and run on us which sucks because this is a favorite topic of mine..
The one thing I'd say to someone learning options though is not to get suckered into this idea that long options are just silly and useless and you're only sharp if you're selling premium. This narrative that almost all options expire worthless always makes me do a little eye roll every time. Nobody on the long directional side with any sense holds contracts anywhere near to expiration unless you're actually hedging a share position, and even then you're likely to roll them or cash in for a little premium at a few DTE. I mean how cool is it to be able to take defined risk short positions with long puts in a cash account under PDT?
Sigh* great. Now I'm starting to want to trade again

I asked tons of questions about options, perhaps to the exasperation of geo
I’ve learned some things since then
In my opinion
If you have the liquidity it’s better to just buy a lot of shares instead of calls
You can’t just figure on making money on puts just because the stock is going to tumble. You need to be Johnny on the spot with finding the right price.
If the implied volatility is too high I personally won’t buy it. I want under 50%.
I like to buy one month out.
Robinhood includes “max loss” when you buy it. Make sure that’s tolerable.
Sometimes the option contract doesn’t sell quickly which can be upsetting
If you own a lot of single stock and it’s looking to lose value buying puts can help hedge or mitigate the damage to your portfolio
If you see a channel that a stock is bouncing in you can win with a put and call contract at the same time
Robinhood explains what all the Greeks mean if you click on it before you buy
It’s really hard to win at options unless you know the stock really well and changes in the market can make what you think you know wrong.
You got to be constantly updating your thinking especially with options.
