Because errors happen in the DNA transcription as cells divide, the more divisions the more errors and this eventually leads to cells not behaving as they should.

Like PBJ said, it's the same reason we experience more and more problems as we age.

Thank you for your response. I have a culture that i have had to transfer 10+ times and just now beginning to see growth that is promising and was afraid that it's age would have an effect for the culture. Glad to hear that this wasn't the case.

Makes sense. I often take cuttings of my houseplants and wondered why it wasn’t the same, but I guess fungi are more like fauna in that respect.

Makes me wonder if you kept cloning a human clone if they would degrade… like in that movie Multiplicity haha

As I said in my other comment, senesence really isn't an issue for home cultivation. I'm not very well versed in plants but I'd imagine the same would sort of things happens there as well. Just that most plants tend to have a much longer life span.

If I were to guess, I'd imagine annuals would show signs of senesence much quicker than perennials if you kept taking cuttings and propagating that way

Nah, transfer to grain will have way more cellular divisions happen than 10 agar plates and people do multiple g2g "generations" without issue

Yes, it is. Transfer on whenever you want.

Also, alcohol don't do shit to spores. If it did we wouldn't need to flame sterilize our tools to kill. Mold spores and bacterial endospores

Morning everyone, should I consider transferring this before it starts to get closer to the edge?

Thanks in advance!

Alcohol touched my spores and I tried making do with what I have.
It's been like a month. This is one of the best looking plates.
You think I should clone from this?
Is this mycelium?

A few simple questions if somebody could oblige:

I'm about to harvest my first PF cakes. How long should the second dunk take? 24 hours like the first? After the second dunk should I reroll in coir or just send straight to fruiting? I've heard both.

Quick question: Once pinning has started, can misting cause aborts?

I’m not sure where the “don’t mist pins” thing comes from. I’ve misted pins on pretty much every shoebox and cake I’ve ever run and it has caused zero problems.

If you're using one of those big Zep spray bottles from Home Depot, the ones meant for cleaning products, that thing delivers a lot of force and pointing it directly at your fruit and misting from up close it's like poking them with a sharp stick.

I used to use them to spray my cat and it definitely bounces off him pretty forcefully

I've been misting more indirectly, from above and did wonder about this so thought it was worth asking. Thank you to all of you who responded. Much appreciated.
