Do you really need gypsum for BRF PF jars?

I read Pf tek done right TEK and i am confused.

It says
Quote:

Gypsum really helps the development of the fruit bodies I recommend using it

I was under the impression that you don't need gypsum for BRF cakes.

What's the deal? Use it or not?

I think we should get rid of all these "xxx done right" threads which provide outdated information.

Much confusion for noobs like me.

Good idea. Is there a forum for the site staff/mods that this can be suggested on?

I've seen the message indicating that the thread is old and may contain outdated information.

Buuuut the thread title has "done right" in it and is from a "Trusted Cultivator".

These two things made me believe i could ignore that message.

Should have pretty up to date stuff here. Also when you search for posts you can change how many years it'll go back to find posts.

Yes, i always limit my search to only search for posts younger than 5 years.

But this doesn't help if an old, outdated thread is linked from inside a recent one.

You were 100% correct. Remove the dry verm and the hydrated sub provides the water

Nvm, got confused reading the nested quotes6

Wait, now Iโ€™m confused. Shred or bury?

Bury. And the only person I've really seen talk about it is Pasty, I believe it was on discord though.

No need for coir on the bottom and you fruit it like a tub

Ok thanks. Do I pack the coir in and down like in the normal shoebox tek? Or should it be as loose as a PF jar?

Can someone please explain what senescence is and why it happens, and why itโ€™s bad?

Iโ€™m no expert but itโ€™s basically when the culture gets tired and stops producing well. After many many transfers and grows. Iโ€™m not sure how because it doesnโ€™t make much sense in my mind. Like why canโ€™t you just take a clone culture to keep it going. Why do you have to start back over from spore?

Why do humans have to keep having kids instead of just living forever?  Cultures get old just like humans do and when they get old they are less vigorous and healthy than younger cultures.

No, not really. Senesence is not really something most home cultivators have to worry about. It's more of a commercial cult problem where even a small % drop in performance translates to major revenue loss.

The Enigma culture has been passed around for close to 6 years and is just now starting to show signs of senesence in some cases.

Because errors happen in the DNA transcription as cells divide, the more divisions the more errors and this eventually leads to cells not behaving as they should.

Like PBJ said, it's the same reason we experience more and more problems as we age.

Makes sense. I often take cuttings of my houseplants and wondered why it wasnโ€™t the same, but I guess fungi are more like fauna in that respect.

Makes me wonder if you kept cloning a human clone if they would degradeโ€ฆ like in that movie Multiplicity haha

So what's the workaround so the "package", in terms of Humans gets a full copy? Makes me wonder if it's natural to have things stay the same or get better and someone messed with genetics to make them degrade instead of at worse regenerate upon command from the body owner...
