Yeah, come over to shroomery where we make our closets in SABs.

Or where we grow mushrooms in bathtubs and on bras :batlol:

In all seriousness, I don't think anyone in that thread actually thinks a closet sab is a good idea. I told him to just stick a bin in there in some of my posts as well. Don't take me for someone who is actually defending a closet SAB. Just someone who thinks it would work better than open air and thinks the idea is hilarious.

Opinions on vacuum sealing cultures on Agar to stall? I have some APE .. the LC I started with is fire, from local vendor. I had an excellent small harvest from my first attempt, and took some clones from the biggest cluster. All three dishes were (I believe) immediately clean. I still took transfers. Have gifted one of the original clone dishes, used on to inoculate some bags and make transfers, and still have the third looking good. I don't have space for any mor shoeboxes and need to save this culture. A friend recommended vacuum sealing the dish and storing in the fridge to extend the shelf life. Does this sound like a good idea? I only have the fridge with food in it. Here's the culture. I think it's clean, but I'm a noob, school me if needed.

Grogu - I started with micropore tape, but my most recent dishes have been using parafilm brand grafting tape. It works much better IMO but what do I know yet lol. Micropore no bueno I assume? Seems like too much air allowed through.

I guess I haven't picked a team yet.. still experimenting. I don't think I will end up team micropore or lab parafilm. The grafting parafilm seems to be working wonderfully. What do you think about vacuum sealing the dish to stall it out until after summer? I don't like the idea of keeping it raw in my food fridge.

Vacuum sealing would be overkill IMO.  My stored plates just live in ziplocs in a tiny cooler in the back of my food fridge, they're a-ok for several months.

I'm good with trying that. I know I can't keep my temps low enough for adequate conditions throughout the summer. I only have ac in the bedrooms and don't grow mush in there. It will be over 90 all summer in the room I use.. I have 2 more months before it's out of control and tons of grain colonizing right now. I will try ziplocs. Maybe if I get another culture I'm trying to save i can experiment with the food saver. I'd imagine if they're in the fridge they are relatively dormant and not breathing much..

Yeah, they grow very slowly, but the agar dries out.  Should be good for the summer tho, and you can always make transfers to new plates if need be.
Also for better long term storage check out slants: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18182209

Thank you stubb. I 100% will be doing slants when I start up again next season.. I started way too much and too many varieties when I learned how fun this is. Despite having several good cultures I'm only going to keep this APE and some Ghost from a GAW on this site. The rest will all stay in prints and swabs until next season. (Unless I get some awesome fruits to clone from the JF I'm running right now).
Appreciate your time thank you

how hard is it to overhydrate / water the substrate with mist alone?

If substrate was dried out a bit due to lack of mist/ no lid and attempts are made to un stall the colonization in certain uncolonized spots.

not doing traditional mono's

I frequently mist and dunk the fuck out of my subs more than  anyone does here I’d imagine. I think it’s kinda hard unless you’re pouring a gallon of water over your sun and leaving it there forever

Is it possible for you to float the cake for a few hours and then drain the extra water? I have done this to rehydrate shoeboxes successfully.

I'm just pointing out that lots of dumb shit gets said on shroomery as well. And lots of shroomery TCs and non-tc but very experienced cultivators like Bod, Tormato, Munch, myself, V.L. and a few others are on reddit quite often too.

The real difference comes from the level of control afforded to mods over here combined with the slightly different format. The relative size of the communities also certainly play a significant role.

But I get it, the shroomery hive mind says it's cool to hate on reddit and vice versa. I do wish people on both sides would remove their heads from their asses on this weird divide thing.

I like the Reddit Mushroom community but of course you guy's here are best but there are good Pepole also.

Edit: guy's is a CO2 Controller nessesary for growing Gourmet Mushrooms?

Not necessary. Just make sure you are getting enough air replacement. I can’t remember if it’s 7x a minute or and hour, but as long as your exhaust pulls from the bottom of the tent, it’ll take spores and co2 with it. I’m assuming you have an intake fan with humid air and an exhaust fan that pulls at the same rate as the other pushes. The way I had mine set up was the intake was on a timer and the exhaust never cut off

I only have a small tent for growing pot 60x60x160cm i change to a bigger tent so the small one i have for other things and thing that i can using it for growing Gourmet it's possible in that area right?

I know how to set up a system for growing pot

Inline Fan for fresh air with a Filter but i don't need to bring humidity high so i don't know how to do it i think i need this combination with Humidifer and a fan take air out right? And what you say a timer for Air out intervall?
