Question. Spore prints on a piece of foil in a 4oz mason jar with 3/4 6 gram silica gel packets. How long ROUGHLY do you think they will last in the fridge?

I've germinated 16 year old spores wrapped in tinfoil stored in the fridge.

Do prints need to be kept in the fridge? Is that where people normally keep them? I haven’t taken any yet, but my mind defaulted to room temp for some reason.

Either is fine really as long as they're sealed up good. Yeast spores can live in oak barrels for hundreds of years.
The important part is that a print is damp after dropping and needs to dry to extend shelf life. Then wrap it and seal it up good in a jar or vacuum sealer.

Vibetyme said: It is because there is no shaking involved so you aren't spreading the bacteria/mold from the syringe all around like you would a grain jar or bag.
This gives your mycelium a chance to take hold and possibly beat any contams.
Spore prints and spore syringes are rarely clean and often harboring other organisms. PF tek works quite well and is easy enough to pull off with basic gear and understanding. The materials can be found (or at least materials that will work) nearly everywhere in the world "Cakes" in general are a good thing to understand know how to pull off. It is a versatile skill set that is useful in many ways for a lot of species.

They do not. I germinated wild spores taken on card paper and kept in a sandwich baggie for 18 years. They don't all fare that well.
IME spores that are allowed a little GE in storage and are not desicated too far last longer. The biggest culprit I've noticed in spores losing viability is dryness.

CowsPoopShrooms said: "Quick question,....Why is PF Tek a good choice/option for MSS inoculation?"
My understanding is that it is a good option. I can understand how the verm can act as a filter to prevent contams from entering through the holes in the lids. But MSS Inoc would be below the dry verm layer, so what am I missing? What am I not understanding?
First reason is that BRF cakes are very resistant to bacterial contamination which is common in MSS.
Second reason is that the verm top layer isn't to protect against contams in the MSS, it's to protect against contams in the air that comes into the jars through the holes in the lid - especially trich and mold spores that float around in your ambient air. If you were to get a bunch of mold spores in your MSS, PF Tek isn't going to save you.

I've reused single use syringes. They will hold up in PC. I first boil water run it through syringes 3 times fourth time leave water in push out air bubble wrap in foil place with needle facing up in a jar without lid works to hold up right. I don't know if this is looked down upon or considered not sterile but I've had success with this process.

Yes they can be pc’ed (personally, I do 45mins @ 15psi). although, some syringe barrels and plungers are not pc’able.. they get bent out of shape.

CowsPoopShrooms said: . . Quick Question: Can these single use needles (18g) be re-sterilized in a PC? Yes, they say, "single use". Can they be reused? Can they stand the heat of a PC? If yes, What's a good PC time?
Those pictured were used to inoc PF Tek jars.
You really don't need to pressure cook needles just to push unsterilized spores through them. Put the needle on the syringe, Bring water to a boil in a frying pan, Draw boiling water into the syringe a few times and squirt it in the sink, on the last draw leave the water in the syringe, place on the cap, and wait for it to cool.
Always flame your needles before inoculation and you'll be as good as any spore syringe you buy from a vendor.
Here a tek for it https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=26011681&page=0&vc=1#26011681

Quick question: I’ve bought some some pre sterilized brf jars on Amazon ( I know I know I should make my own, and ive done several grows with the companies product, whose name I will not mention sorry mods!)
But my question is. I’ve just birthed some cakes and I’ve decided to try to do my own jars this time. My question is. Can I sterilize with the SHIPs in there or should I take them out?
After typing it out it sounds kinda stupid but I am curious

For PF BRF TEK, when my jars are fully colonized, and after waiting 1 wk for consolidation, if I can't birth them right then, how long do I have before it's detrimental?
