Problem is, in order for that to work out as good as possible, they'd preferably be plates with the same genetics. So you take a clone, expand that to several plates, then use those plates to have one jar colonize really fast. Theoretically. But the math is off. If you had two plates with genetically identical mycelium, you could slice those up and inoculate ten, twenty jars at once. No faster colonization time would ever beat that advantage in volume.

And that's if they're 💯 clean.

These vile media bottles are from 2020 when I tried agar but in the middle of it lost interest for a long while and stupidly didn't immediately clean these. How would you clean these out or should I just toss them and buy new ones?

Right, do I keep the caps screwed tight while I pc them or loosen the caps a little?

Always loosen when pressure cooking.
Honestly you don't even need to pressure cook them. Just microwave till it melts (a minute at a time, shaking after each minute) and dump it. Then clean it out with a bottle brush.
I would not recommend dumping down the drain. Use an old yogurt container or something so you can just pop out the solidified puck.

cryovials are ok but the distilled water will actually leech minerals from the wedge. i much prefer lc storage in those little vials. there is also the chance of air bubble, be sure not to underfill them, could lead to dessication.

I'm gonna run Mycoplex's Cryovials I got a set of 100 for like 14 bucks so I figured why not try it out. I'm going for agar wedge stasis storage so dessication isn't a huge concern because it would still be reviveable later, even if it dried out no?

I find the worst that happens if a wedge floats to the top is you get a little mat of mycelium on top. I just shake it and use it.
I also always put two wedges in. Maybe it results in a little extra nutrition for them to go through but it doesn't seem to matter. It does give a little peace of mind since one of those wedges will definitely be submerged, and if the first one doesn't recover (hasn't happened to me yet), you've got another shot from the same vial.

yep they're fine. what i was saying is watch out for air bubbles. sure you can revive it if it dries out, but we're going for long-term storage aren't we? lc is superior. mycoplex's cryovials are fine.

Hi all,
(PF Tek + sgfc) I have one, single large pin, about 1 - 1.5 inches long. There are a couple of tiny primordia/pins coming in when I look closely.
My question is: should I pick the large pin early to avoid stunting the rest? I've read old threads where this is recommended but I'm not sure if this is common practice now.
Thanks

See Water Tub Tek for updated PF cake fruiting methods.
As far as harvesting, you can harvest the large pin when the veil breaks if you would like. There's no reason to harvest it earlier than that though.
Also, try to keep your sights on the more recent threads as we've learned and evolved a LOT since this site started.

I'm still having a hard time not buying autosampler vials instead of cryovials :P everyones told me its unecessary but It feels like it would be so much more professional to have a built in SHIP. I'll probably invest in both because I'm hoping to sell edible and medicinal cultures like lions mane later this year and the pre SHIP'd containers would just look more professional and fool proof for customers.
so I'll ask in here too, has anyone in here already tried autosampler vials ?

So quick question this is my very first grows its Jack frost in a shoebox it was a aio bag that I broke up when it finished colonizing and moved to box it has been consolidating since the 22nd should I crack the lid or wait until I see pins to do so also how is it looking so far I'm not sure about that one spot in the corner that hadn't fully consolidated or is that anything to worry about.
