I'm sure anyone who has been around these forums long enough should be familiar with the BRF Tek from: https://mushroomvideos.com/pmwiki.php?n=BRF-Pf-Tek I followed this video yesterday. The ingredients were 240ml brown rice flour 480ml vermiculite, 240ml water. In the video they said it makes 5 half pint jars, and they used all of the substrate. I however was left with much more after filling 5 half pint jars. I could have probably filled 10 or 15.
I'm just wondering why I ended up with so much more substrate than they did. I know my measurements were correct. Has anyone else followed this tek and ended up with more substrate than said in the video. Also, is the correct ratio 1 part brown rice flour, 2 part vermiculite, 1 part water?
My overall concern, is the substrate mix I made the correct ratio and should colonize? I just hope I had the right amount of each since I ended up with so much more than they did in the video.
Thank you!

This has never happened to me. I usually end up with less substrate than I need. Strange

Did you use the exact measurements in the video, 240ml brown rice flour, 480ml vermiculite, and 240ml water? And use 5 half pint jars?
Your good. Make use of that extra sub. And nope I'm not clicking that link
Thank you. Lol it's okay, I understand. I don't click on ANY links ethier. But it was just a link to the website where those videos are hosted
I'm just worried I used too much or too little of something. But I'm almost positive I measured correctly with what's shown in the video.

There was a product similar going around a while back and it seems to be very gimmicky. If you don't want contams focus on making clean spawn. If you have shitty spawn that stuff won't save you and if your spawn is clean you should have no problem getting the first flush and likely more out of it.
Thanks...

if your spawn is clean, I really wouldn't be too concerned about contamination being introduced after spawning...

Those look great, ready for grain or more transfers. Up to you.
Try to focus your camera by moving over just next to the cup and focusing on the surface of the table then moving back over the cup for the photo

Hello fellow hunters. Q question - should I wait or should I start fruiting? Got a patch on top of sub which is not colonizing for about a week. No show of other contams.

Cool. Cool. They look great to me too, but I've been looking at mostly shit that's getting progressively better with time, effort and learning. I'm going to take 4 Ts from each and then tiger drop the parent into 1 pint each.
Here's another question: Do I want to take the sample from the edge or further in? Everything says the edge, but I've read recently that in an effort to avoid bacteria and maybe other contams- to take the sample (after locating the region) from further in toward the center. Any thoughts?

Very good idea. I will definitely try that...shit, hang on!

Not perfect, but definitely an improvement! I'll work with it to see what I can do! Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, just take from the leading edge it's fine, your plates are clean

Noob here
So all these different types of mushrooms with names like Cambodia, Mississippi, or the ones called Penis Envy are all really just different strains of the same species (P. Cubensis)? Seems crazy given how different they all look so wanted to confirm Iām understanding this right. I guess different environments and genetic selection techniques produce very different looking fruits within the same species?

Yea, this was asked a couple pages back.

I believe the short answer to be yes, though somebody else may have a long answer.
Whether found in the wild or cultivated, it's simply down to the extremely vast variety of genetics of one species. Isolating / stabilising genetics as much as possible into distinguishable (though not necessarily) phenotypes, is essentially what puts the varieties on the table.
This brings the argument of "a cube, is just a cube".

Most of them actually look identical and even those that are strikingly different like PE or albino varieties are phenotypes that can be obtained from any normal looking variety with luck

Two transparent tubs with holes spaced about 2ā apart in all six sides. About 3ā of perlite in both but would prefer more.
Question 1: Will/does oxygen rise up in stacked tubs / does CO2 sink? i.e should a higher tub have more or less ventilation or just stick with 2ā spaced holes?
Question 2: Stacked tubs again - topmost tub have holes in the lid or not?

"Seems crazy given how different they all look"
Missed this part.
It's worth noting that any given variety can put out a countless number of phenotypes in terms of looks, simply due to genetics.
I didn't use appropriate wording when I mentioned "distinguishable", because with standard varieties of cubensis, such as B+, GT, Cambodian, it's near on impossible to identify a variety.
While many of them DO have common phenotypes, sometimes easily identifiable, they can just as easily put out variable looks making it impossible to tell what's what.
