Yeah, in my case, with my specific tub, I need to have the lid clipped in order to retain ideal surface conditions. It is the specific lid of course, that allows adequate FAE that way, because it is everything but air tight. I meant more about people deviating from more cut and dry rules, like sterilisation, use of a SAB, etc.

Two questions because my OCD is getting the better of me (I never use the term lightly). 1. How the heck do you all keep track which BRF cakes need to be dunked/were already dunked etc? The only real way I can see is by handling them and judging by weight. This needs experience which I don't have, but if it is the only way I don't mind, I'll get there.
2. I've searched but my results are inconclusive. Is it better to spawn cakes to bulk or just fruit then as cakes? I am planning to spawn 2-3 cakes in a small 1.2lt container, and see what happens. I am just not sure if it is even worth it.

1) dunno man, maybe try moving from one side of the chamber to the other with one side being already dunked?
2) you can get your full potential either way. Whichever conditions your able to best provide will produce the best. Check out fahster's cakes for demo of cakes fruiting as cakes and putting out a fuck ton.

1 You could weigh a saturated cake and a dry cake on a gram scale for standards. 1 ml of water weighs 1 gram.
2 IMHO the best way to fruit brf cakes is to lay them on top of a layer of prepped coir in a tray/liner, pack the cakes on there so they touch each other like they come in the box. Pack more prepped coir between and on top of the cakes. Put the tray/liner in a monotub. Breaking cakes spreads potential contam and exposes a lot of nutritious material to atmosphere, filthy filthy atmosphere, as well as saps energy for a "recovery". Cakes in a water tub on a rack or on foil squares on top of wet perlite etc, deprives them of a water reservoir they can tap directly and you don't get nearly as much as if they have a reservoir. This way it will act like a bulk substrate grow and you get full size fruits in a canopy fashion.
Hope this helps.

Well, it is obvious that when someone describes ideal surface conditions, and how they got there, that the important part is the "surface conditions", and the "getting there" is just a general guideline. Makes sense and it is easy to make a small tub this way, just need to get some Coco and pasteurise it!
Edit. Do I really need to pasteurise Coco? And if yes, is there an easier way than the bucket Tek I've read about?

Question for the guys who line their tubs with trash bags/clingfilm/plastic-of-choice.
>How do you dunk them without dislodging the liner AND without ruining pins with whatever you weigh the block/sub down with?
Flush question
>How many flushes do you go before dunking a block/tub? Edit: the tub is lined.

No, but bucket tek isn´t pasteurizing. Hot water makes it fluffier and better to mix up. But bucket tek is easy, isn´t it?

i just bottom water a lil for like 6-10 hrs depending and then drain out, usually right after the first flush unless its still very moist i dont use a liner personally

1 Spray it down with a spray bottle, or literally just dump some water on top after harvest. It drinks it up in about an hour.
2 Depends on the flush and the remaining moisture. A good productive flush you will want to wet it down after the first flush.

What ambient temperature would be considered ideal for fastest fruit growth? Do deviations make a significant difference in the time it takes them to reach maturity?
Perhaps my expectations are misaligned, but here's my firstborn side pin that's about a week old which I expected to be much taller by now.

I promise I'm not being impatient. It's just that when reality doesn't match up with expectations, I start looking for things I could be doing better.

1. My dried shrooms smell “sweet” almost like honey. I got caught needing to harvest at just the wrong time and ended up drying them in 3 sittings across 3 days. They are all cracker dry. Normal or bad?
2. After my second flush, my sub is covered in hundreds of tiny pins/aborts. I got a massive flush of some huge fruits though! Do I need to, or is it good practice, toremove all those pins before dunking and going for the third flush?

1. My sense of smell is totally messed up so I can't really smell much these days, but I never remember my mushrooms smelling sweet. Hopefully someone else chimes in about this one.
2. I prefer to remove all the aborts. Most the time they just get reclaimed by mycelium but I have had some of them turn into nasty bacterial messes if I didn't pick em off. I would sometimes just rub my hand up and down the substrate and that got most of em. Then pick the stragglers.

I have my first monotub pinning right now and there's a lot more pins on the sides of the substrate than on the top. Substrate was at field capacity at spawn and I found myself having to mist this often as the beads of water on the surface didn't stick around for long. Can too much airflow cause sidepins? It seems logical when the shrooms are mostly growing in the areas of the tub with less airflow.
I'm using a pasty white style mono (small holes) but the tubs we get over here are really shit and the lids I suspect let in a lot more air than the tubs others on here work with. I think I'll try a completely unmodified tub next with the lid on correctly and adjust as needed.

Hello! I've got a tub of GT that started pinning 4-5 days ago. Based off size I'd say they aren't ready but the tallest (2 inches) has dropped it's veil already. I've only ever grown nats successfully after reading the entire 500 page nat thread but to my understanding most cubes should be harvested shortly after the veil drops. Am I mistaken? Also I'm thinking I need more FAE because of the fuzzy feet so I might need to drill a couple holes.
