Medium low heat and acid (vinegar) is good for removing sugars that have caramelized. In kitchens we call this technique de-glazing (there's surely youtube videos demonstrating) and it's often done with wine or vinegar depending on the dish.
It's a great way to finish most things you pan fry. Pulls all the flavor off the bottom of the pan, brightens the dish, and makes doing the dishes 90% easier.

I need to leave town for a few days with tubs pinning, they may not be ready to harvest by the time I get back or they may have spunked their black load everywhere... How low could I maintain the temperature in the room to slow the metabolic rate without causing negative effects?

Maybe vinegar or citric acid? Keep in mind I've never tried that, but I've seen them suggested for rust removal in general.

Working at that restaurant was cool, the head chef (who hated being called chef) was also into cult due to his cluster headaches. After a couple weeks working there we started talking about cult, ended up trading some materials, I gave him some cultures. I want to isolate some good clones to give him next time I see him.

Edit to add: I bought a box of 100 #11 blades at the time and think I just opened the second or third 5 pack. lol

I don’t know how high they’re good, but I can verify they’re good to at least 7.8.

Take an old blade and scrape out the grooves. Had to do mine like that so the blades would snap in there.

I put aquarium gravel in there, hot water, and shake it like a baby. Works good for me.

I have a question about mycelium growth on agar. On some plates mycelium disapears from surface and you can see mycelium growth, but not white as normal and on edge of plate white mycelium reapears. After some time is whole plate covered with white mycelium. Is this normal, contamination, low nutritional value of agar?

Now that you mentioned it, how often do you change your scalpel blade? I've made a few transfers, but it didn't cross my mind to change it, as it does it's job.

I change my blade when it doesn’t cut well or the tip is bent. That usually takes 6mo and it’s just a black charred remnant of its former self. Others change them every session or more. It’s whatever works for your workflow.
