I caution you, it starts with one. Just one, just one plant to see how it feels...
One month and $200 in carnivorous plants later I had to cut myself off for the year.

Can't recommend, they got moldy after a few weeks and i had to toss them.

Set them outside of the tubs, not inside of them. They will get the gnats before they get inside the tub and cause problems. They also won't mold.

Is this with the same measuring device and how many plates are you making at once? What hot glove do you use to keep from burning your hand? It’s probably a thermostat that isn’t accurate. I have a 60°C lab water bath calibrated with a certified alcohol therm. I take my 500ml media bottle out, wipe it with IPA in front of the flow hood and pour 30+ 100mm glass plates. I have to use a rag wet with IPA or a hot glove to hold the bottle, but it never gels. Most pour cooler than I do.
If you actually do pour that hot or hotter, I can’t think of a good reason to and definitely think it’s bad advice for 99.999% of cultivators.</font>
It's great that you have all these tools at your disposal, but you seem to be clinging to your own workflow here and you're arguing a difference of 10°F. I don't have a flowhood or hot water bath, just a PC and a SAB. I don't measure the temp of my agar every time I make it because that would be unnecessary for my setup, I established the temp range I like to pour at years ago. I have tougher hands than most people from working in a kitchen, but I use a rag if the heat starts getting to me.
Also, don't hold hot things with a wet rag as the heat transfers more efficiently to your hand.

So, if one's technique is not yet on point and there are some failed grows under the belt due to contamination, after inoculating with agar the grains, instead of shaking it to check if it's bacterial - and if so spreading a lot more the bacteria around and weakening the mycelium -, would it be better to just let it be and not shake the jar at all? Of course it would take much longer to colonize, but would you have more chances to get a "decent" jar to spawn? Not a great one of course, but a good enough one to get a fair amount of fruits from.
What do you think?

Time, grain, and jars would be better spent throwing out bad spawn and trying again.

What Smelly said. It just takes much longer to colonize without a shake even if it's clean. If it's not then it's just nit worth waiting around for. Shake, find out fast, colonize fast.

Anyone have a link for a #7 scalpel handle? I'm reading too many horror stories on Amazon about people being sent the wrong handle and/or blades not fitting/being janky

Lc. I have 5 other cakes going strong with nothing weird like this. Is it possible it's just a wet spot that'll sort itself out? Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Wait and see. Could be just fine and that is just slick/paste created by the lc and the brf. Could also be fucked. Time will tell.
Is there an odor outside the jar?

No odors. By all accounts it seems to be fine. If it is the paste, would that area eventually "close up"?

Maybe. If the growth all looks good and it does not "close up" birth it anyway.

"Hey guys, I need your help. I have a dilemma. I had an ultra early bottom fruit (I think it's from a pin on a piece of crumbled cake) that now got to full maturity. The problem is, the rest of the sub is still waiting to pin (it's been 14 days since spawning to bulk). Now I'm afraid this bottom fruit will rot and screw my whole sub up. But I'm also afraid to disrupt the sub to pull it out.
Can I leave it without fear until about 2 weeks later (hopefully) when I get to pick my 1st flush? Thank you!"
It won’t hurt anything, but it’s an indicator or a couple things.
1) Your sub probably wasn’t well compressed, causing that space you see on the sides. 2) the bottom of your sub may end up having the best conditions now and might pin first. If that happens, just carefully flip it over and fruit upside down in a water tub
I just realized that I don't really understand fully about a water tub fruiting. Does it mean elevating flipped sub above a water surface and letting it fruit like that? I only found a water tub tek for PF cakes, but no info on the sub... How does that work? Is it to hydrate the sub properly after flipping?

On my second flush, it’s a multi spore grow. I’ve got a fair bit of weirdness coming in this flush, the first flush all were perfectly formed just very small, these are growing much bigger but have a few deformities. Just multispore weirdness or signs of something else going on?

Agar mix
I was going to do: 9g agar 4g lme 0.25g nutes yeast
But have no yeast. Is it ok to put peptone in instead. I have peptone, I know it's good for LC just checking for agar plate use.

Like this.
Not recommending that brand. I haven't used it. My handle is a bit janky though, so I can't recommend mine either. I got used to it, but I sometimes do still use a wrench to replace the blade.
