LPEU started with a fairly dry sub... daily misting seems to have allowed it to fruit. I have these Pins today but should I unlatch the lid now for more FAE or wait a bit longer because I know I struggled with a dry casing layer and I don't want it to dry out again...

1) Some sterile their agar solution in a microwave over pc, does this cause a higher risk of issues or is this an ok method?
2) Do you add nutrition to your agar plates and slants or use a simple agar + water mix?

Don’t use a microwave at all to sterilize your agar. You can use a microwave to pre dissolve the agar in water, which isn’t really necessary, but no one is sterilizing their agar in the microwave. That is the function of a PC.
Yes you need to add nutrients to your agar if you want to grow anything on it. There is such a thing as water agar, which is non nutritive, but it has a specific use case and is not your standard dish.
I recommend reading up on some agar teks.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've read and watched many videos on agar now. I only ask as I saw one guy microwave it then pour onto plates then stack to put into the fridge so I wondered if that was correct as prior to that I only understood sterilisation methods used a pc. I have a pc so will use it.
Also the agar water mix. On this link they recommend water agar to help identify rhizo growing mycelium. I wondered if others agreed or did the A/W mix themselves.

Water agar is used as a cleaning medium, as mycelium will reach out while bacteria won’t.
Don’t chase rhizomorphic growth. Rhizo is cool and if you have it that’s great, but all you’re looking for is clean, healthy, and vigorous mycelium.

I will also add, it’s best to limit the information you get from YouTube about this pursuit to a minimum. There’s far more misinformation there than good information.

I’ve used the microwave to reheat agar that I have previously sterilized in the PC.

I have several plates that look like this. There is healthy rizo looking growth on the outside, but the inside of each circle is grayish. Bit also I already took transfers from previously healthy looking mycelium that has turned grayish as its grown out and the transfers look great after a few days.
Is this just running out of nutrients or something else?

You don't need to gauge anything. If its constantly rocking its over pressured and losing steam. Bring it up to a constant rock then dial back the heat til you get one little rock of release every 30 to 90 seconds or so. The idea is to keep the pressure in. Not lose it.
Thanks for the advice, I've been trying to dig up an old manual to see what it was rated for the stamp on thw rocker is its date of manufacture (1976!!) They do sell weighted rockers of a differnt style that i could replace with, the excessive rocking is absolutely terrifying to witness, 😳 for water in the bottom of the pot, would 2 inches be good? I will probably not fit more than 4 half gallon jars or 6 pint jars at a time. Mush love

I just put water up to the bottom of the jars, or just a little higher, to be safe. Even when PC'ing for 3 hours, I've never run out of water.
