It's important if you want to get relatively clean growth at germination. I always put a half pint jar over the top of the cap and I basically cut my specimen right after unrolling the foil so that the foil is exposed to open air for as little time as possible.
It is possible to take pretty close to sterile prints by printing fruits grown in vitro. Check out Violet's pods tek for examples.

No that´s not worth it. Keep the cake as it is. Manure needs to be pasteurized, but as said if you don´t wanna make a green bomb, just let the cake stay intact

Thank you for your great answers, just what I needed! And pretty much in line with how I was HOPING to approach this one, so that's great Cheers x

That's my fear - I'd like to do giveaways on Market Place so I can pay forward the generosity of other users, but worry that I'll send out prints that are sub-standard. Both prints I've received have been so good that even the germ plates were clean; the bar's been set so high that I worry mine will be trash by comparison
People claim h202 has no place in this hobby but I highly beg to differ. H202 will do great things in combating molds. I spray all my donor fruits (for prints, swabs, and clones) generously with h202 beforehand and let it sit a few minutes. This will help you achieve clean results. H202 doesn’t help as much with bacteria, but bacteria is easiest to combat, especially when taking spores or tissue to brf pucks.
I still really don’t have bacteria issues either with my own clones or spores though 🤷♂️
And I know one of those prints you got were from me😜

Well, it's impossible to be truly sterile when making prints. But, the cleaner you work the cleaner your print will be. Some prints in my experience have been too dirty to even attempt cleaning a culture, meaning I'd streak the plate and 2 days later the plate is filled with mold. But, yes, you can get a clean culture from a reasonably dirty print. That's the purpose of agar after all.
I highly recommend the OG print TEK, it has always produced clean prints for me.

I've had two prints in the past that were so filthy I never attempted to do anything beyond the germ plate. Like I said, within 2 days the entire plate was filled with to the brim with mold. Both of them came from the marketplace. One was packaged well and the other literally looked like it had been printed on a wadded up gum wrapper the person found in the pocket of a pair of jeans they'd just run through the wash.
No, I never got any fruits or a clean culture from those prints obviously, but I was still appreciative of them for trying and going through the effort of sending me something. They still got a good trade rating from me. In fact, I still have the worst one because I can't bring myself to throw it away for some reason
Swabs are another great option to if you're worried about printing. When I swab I will bring the fruit(s) I want to swab into my SAB, set them on a paper towel sprayed with ISO, use sterile or ISO wiped scissors (not flamed) to cut off the stipe and swab/package inside the SAB. I also work inside the SAB when I'm folding and packaging prints as per the OG print TEK I linked previously.

Is it better to grow sclerotia in jars or grow bags? What size is preferable? Pound for pound, which yields the best results?

Os an old school smoker I’m continuously amazed by all the new ways to consume cannabis these days. What happened to just smoking a joint.

Is this ready to spawn?
A little background. I have 4 pint jars that all look substantially similar to this this. They were nearing full colonization about 5 days ago. But, there were a number of grains on the tops that just didn't seem to be moving. Posted on here. I was told it was likely that there was drying going on. So I did a light break and shake, and quickly had good recovery up to what it looks like now. I have not seen the myc getting appreciably thicker. I do think that the moisture might be off with maybe too large a gas exchange. I don't really see much moisture in any of the jars at this point. Feel like I just need to send them to spawn (this will be my first STB).

Ok to noc some jars and leave them in 60 temps until I get back in town or should I just wait until I get back?

You can leave them in the 60s indefinitely. They’ll colonize
