Yes it's still 90 days and 50 posts.

Hello all, first time poster, to anything - ever.

So, I put my colonized cake, that I took out of the all-in-one plastic bag and into a terrarium grow kit from midwest organics. Its been in there for 6 days, with a average temp of 76f and average humidity of 95%. My question is should i have soaked the cake before placing it in there? And is it normal to not see any signs of growth yet? Thanks for the help friends!

Generally cakes get dunked before fruiting. Have you been misting the cake? If not it's probably drying out.

You can grow in open air if you just mist frequently.

To your other question I would have expected to see knotting by 6 days but longer is not unheard of.

I don't think dunking is any kind of magic bullet. There's been plenty of times I fruited grains and cakes without dunking. It would help to see the cake.

Okay first off YES you could use crispr to do these things. But there would be no guarantee of the results you wanted.

I would actually push back on the cost aspect. In a professional environment crispr costs about $60 to execute. That's part of why it was such an amazing breakthrough. At least that's what they were saying back in 2014.

Osiria India or Mc Kennai

Third flush, on the way, but I might discard it, just research.

Hi, all. First time posting on here. If there is a more appropriate place to be asking this question it would be great to know.

I started my first grow a few months ago after considering it multiple times throughout the years. I have a 19 quart monotub going with golden teachers. Shortly after initiating fruiting I noticed a small section of the bulk substrate with a slight color and texture variation. That was maybe about a week ago. Pins are starting to come in and it doesn't seem like this area of variation is growing in size or changing colors, and I don't notice any foul or unusual smells. Smells like mushrooms and dirt.

Can anyone help me identify what is growing here?

Additional information. Inoculation substrate was popcorn, bulk substrate is coco/verm (gypsum powder used in both substrates). Additionally, the monotub was colonized for about 3 weeks, which is at least a week longer than I intended. I went out of town for 2 weeks and debated putting the tub in the fridge to pause it, but ended up opting to let it keep colonizing.

It wasn't but as long as I'm responding, your subs look like they are releasing metabolites (the yellow areas) due to bacteria (maybe some mold inside?) and you can tell because at the edges of the yellow parts you can see the transition from white mycelium to yellow. The myc is bubbling up and secreting metabolites in response to something else there.

It's fine to let it finish fruiting but switch to outdoor fruiting for second flush if you see green appear.

This is literally how its done in college labs. Find any college mycology paper where mycelium was grown on grains. You'll get your water / grain ratio there.

Why is no prep the scientific standard? This is my result.

Should I use boiling water or smth?

I think its the standard because it's easy to track scientifically and I don't think they ever use as much grains as you have there. I specifically remember small flasks with water amounts as low as 75ml. I'd have to review a paper again to look at the prep methods exactly but it removes a chance for inconsistency by taking out steps like long boils, straining, and drying. In a scientific setting all of these steps would have to be tracked and recorded and measured in some way. Simply weighing some grain and measuring some water is way easier.

Yes. You'll want to use brown rice. Have you looked up PF tek? It's basically what you've described exactly. The dry verm layer at the top basically acts like a casing layer.

The more jars you can pack in the better it will hold fruiting conditions.

I have this cake that I inoculated with a syringe. It got injected in 5 locations, but this is only corner that showed any growth after several weeks. I did another cake, and it has done nothing.

Today I checked on it, and found pins. What would be my best course of action now? I don't want the entirety of the syringe to be wasted. I was thinking about moving to 2 gallon bag for fruiting. I also thought about removing what has pinned and putting to agar.

What would you do for it to not be a total loss?

I would ride it out a few more daysand see how those pins develope. Fruiting before full colonization can be a response to contamination. If colonization is not continuing you could gently remove the cake and remove any uncolonized sub. Dunk and fruit. Or just fruit. Whatever you feel. That way you can at least get some fruits for a trip or for spores.

If it's still colonizing I would ride it out and try to get it fully colonized before removing it and let the pins grow on the side.

Literally one of the first results when searching "tampanensis grow"

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24946935

Also i would rather munch on sclerotia than fruits any day. They taste friggen delicious and the trip is so smooth.

Fruits, chewing on a sclerotia sounds.. unpleasant. I'm reading through the official stone producers thread hundreds of pages but I'm asking here because maybe someone knows a helpful specific post.

Happy new year!

Anyone have a link for how to grow tamps? Or explain how it's different from growing cubes?

You should check out the official stone producers thread. Are you wanting to grow sclerotia or fruits?
