I have an all in one bag (I know) that is contam. It has some myc growth but it's definitely icky. Could extract a grain before chucking it and put that grain on an agar plate? I know it wouldn't be clean right away but that'd be the path to take?

Yeah I don't have any spores though. Maybe I'll try that Josex method of cleaning on BRF after I take the grain piece to agar.

Using BODβs comprehensive Agar TEK, how much do you fill the Petri dishes?
Im still new so take this with a grain of salt, but I pour only enough to cover the entire bottom with a thin layer.

Oops I did come in here to ask a question. How much of the dish should I allow to colonize before sending it to grain? I have a couple clean looking plates that are at around the 40% mark.

It's a theory I have that the uncolonized agar invites contamination or at least gives any lingering contam something to get a head start on. Also be sure to transfer a piece to another plate for next time.
Thanks!

How do you all go about selecting a clone? Is it always the fruit that is the biggest/fastest?
For example, I have some nice clustered bois that came around first but they've slowed a bit and a side pin that showed up late to the party is starting to outpace them. How do I select?

Select with the force, my guy. Which set of genes are you seeing that youβd like to see repeated? Does a slow cluster appeal to you, or a faster, standalone fruit?
Pick with your heart

Gotcha, thanks

When a fruit begins to grow, is size predetermined by something? Or could you prune a grow like a fruit tree in order to send energy to a few specific fruits?

How do I store my quickest fruits while waiting for the rest to grow? Fridge in a baggie? Don't want to run the dehydrator for 3 fruits...

Is this trich? Didn't start until two days ago and I noticed the sub was bruised blue where condensation was running down the side. Should I touch and see if it bruises?

You mean how long can you store unused plates? After you pour your plates and wrap them they can sit unused for a looooong time. Someone with more experience can give a definite time but I've used plates as old as 3 months before. It's also a good indication you didn't contaminate them while pouring and wrapping.
Wait, we are supposed to wrap plates before using them? I have been keeping mine unwrapped in a 1gal ziplock and have had only three show visible bacteria out of 30ish.

I have a couple pints of spawn that are recovering really slow after a shake at full colonization. Pretty sure they're contaminated. Could I just pop em open and stuff some coir on top? Or is that just a trich recipe?
