Hi, I'm mentally disabled and have tramatic brain injury and PTSD. I've used these type of medicines for many years but now I'd like to get a kit to grow maybe up to a pound. I'm in Oakland and would like to know if there are any good kits out there and I'd probably grow golden teachers...

Thank you for any help,

Kelly

Hey, I had a question? Is it the lack of nutrients (Mycielia ate all the food) that ends more flushes, or is it when water runs out of the substrate and one can just rehydrate by soaking? Just curious how can one know when the food runs out vs. just water and get more flushes?

Thanks,

:mushroom2:

Is there an "on average" how many flushes?

Like just do 3 flushes total with no soaking besides misting tub?

I also read somewhere some people soak with a little honey!?

Thanks

Thanks guys for the "soaking answers" that really helps!

I have another question please? At this spawn magic site he says that rye truly sucks and there changing to Milo...lol

https://spawnmagic.com/product/3-lbs-grain-spawn/

I don't think they've changed the picture as I think Milo is small and round like a tiny BB.

Thanks

NOTICE: Rye truly sucks. We’re switching back to Milo which is a large kernel Grain of sorghum...

Which does not look like the pictures at duckduckgo: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Milo+grain+&t=brave&iax=images&ia=images

When I ordered from them they sent me I think rye berry...

I got package really quick and with boomershroomer it's only $37 about for 9 lb including shipping...

37÷9= $4.11 lb

4.11÷20= $0.20 per lb...

A 50lb bag of millet is about $28 ($0.56 lb) oats are even cheaper... and grain is more expensive in my area that other places

Still roughly 8x less per lb, plus you know it was prepared properly and hasn't sat on a shelf forever

20x may be an exaggeration, but $4.11lb vs $0.56 is still a pretty big gap

I guess if I have 3 tubs and say with 2 flushes I get minimum 4 zips dried and at $125 average zip price in oakland for nice shrooms that would be $500 savings minus $37 = $463 per 2 months to spawn, colonize and fruit 2 flushes, thus a pretty big savings on my medicinal shrooms so I'm ok with that until maybe I want to buy grain, grain bags with injection thing? So including substrate stuff that's about $100 total if I didn't do it all myself and buy in bulk I'm getting an ounce of medicinal shrooms for about $25 an ounce, check my math please...lol

Thank you for your real math and help...

Either one works just fine. Many people have grown many many pounds of mushrooms on all types of grain. My personal preference was to use milo as my master jar and g2g that to 10 jars of rye or wheat then spawn those to bulk. Rye being inferior or bad like that site is indicating is just wrong imo. Sounds like they just couldn't prep the rye correctly.  Everyone has preferences so it's fine but claiming a grain sucks is weird. People say oats suck all the time but the people who use oats love em and defend them with their lives.

Thanks for your post!

There was a product similar going around a while back and it seems to be very gimmicky. If you don't want contams focus on making clean spawn. If you have shitty spawn that stuff won't save you and if your spawn is clean you should have no problem getting the first flush and likely more out of it.

Thanks...

:whathesaid: if your spawn is clean, I really wouldn't be too concerned about contamination being introduced after spawning...

I ❤ the little part about dealing with trich :laugh2:

Hey, can one just scrape prints directly into a spawn bag in front of a flow hood and skip agar and syringe?

Thanks...

You can but your results will be subject to any contaminants that landed on the print itself. SAB's are cheap to make and once you get a workflow they aren't too bad. Agar is cheap and plates are too. When it comes to boosting your chances of success then I feel like it's an easy choice to go the agar route.

So in my reading your post I ask then the agar or the spawn bag could be contaminated if the print is dirty so then how do you get a clean print or keep it clean?

Thanks...

The point of agar is to clean it up. So yes, you may contaminate your agar, but you clean it up through transfers to new plates.

Working in petri dishes, on a 2D surface, makes contaminants easily visible.

The cleanest print is an invitro grown print, but 2nd prints are also cleaner, dropping rogue mold spores in the 1st. But none of that matters when you are using agar.

So the whole agar dish thing is to get as clean a print into it then find the best or cleanest parts to another agar and keep that dish super clean...

I'm curious how agar is made, under a flow hood, like in a video and is it realy worth it on a small scale to make or just buy from reputable source?

Like I also think if you steralized distilled water, how do you get it in front of a flow hood or can it get contamidated on the way to the syringe...

With weed growing it was just dealing with bugs or once in a while a mold but this is so batman level with perfection sterile protocols and even when people follow all the standards they still get contamination as I watched video's whether in agar, a print or syringe etc...

Thanks for all your help guys,

Thanks, I'm reading this but I'd do a lot less cups like 20 so I'd need a smaller recipe...lol

Hey, new to this! I included a couple pictures for you to comment on and curious if this is the start of mycelium or something else. All the bags look the same but I attached two bag pictures. Can't wait to get a flow hood and I liked this one...

And here's the pictures...

Thanks for helping...

Would anyone like to respond to this post?

Also is guys on etsy using antibiotics a real thing in non-pour or just a gimmick because they offer an option. I'll probably do my own no-pour just curious?

Thank you...

I saw this video and I assume it's for the 3rd or 4th flush!?

?embedded=true&source=vimeo_logo&owner=128289865

Anyone try this or just second flush bye? I know some will do flushes until contam enters...

Is that food that is mixed into the water so mycelium has something to eat?

I like he uses towel to soak up any water that leaked up!

Thanks for any help,
