You can do both but if it were me I would print it at home as to let the cap naturally drop its spores. For one you will get an additional level of assurance you picked what you thought you ID'd and you will you will get more spores.

Why do you want to do grains instead of the standard slant? The mycelium will just eat the grain.

can I use the hg containers to make a slant? I wanted something storable at room temp and also be less conspicuous.
Grain on agar is just as conspicuous as a culture on agar. The only difference is you have a grain variable. I just don't think you need to bring grain into the equation.
If I were you I would just learn how to hot pour and make a shit load of slants. If you can hot pour you can make a slant.

Shaking mixes the colonized grain into other parts of the jar/bag increasing the inoculation points so it grows faster. This is usually done at 30% colonization.

You ordered a colonized cake? If you inoculated a pre-sterilized cake I don't think a vendor would reimburse you because you would not be able to prove that it was their product that was faulty or that you (most likely) were the reason it became contaminated.

This might be my exact SAB set up. I had a sterlite box with the lid on the bottom and used those same carpenter LEDs lights. They broke pretty quick but other than that they were great for getting through that cloudy plastic.

It shouldn't matter if you shake it after inoculation so it evenly spreads through the jar.

Learn from my mistakes. I know heating a coffee canister to melt perfectly shaped holes for a SAB seems odd but it does exactly that. When using blades or drills you are more likely to crack the plastic and end up with a mangled piece of shit.
JUST BUY THE TIN OF COFFEE and heat it up. You will have a perfect SAB in less than 10 minutes.

IMO I think you got to live in place where your water from tap is not to be ingested is the only reason why you would NEED to use distilled water.
My water from the tap has been good from day one.

At a certain point I stopped caring whether a single fruit was as potent as could be or if the veil broke. When I got multiple tubs to harvest I couldn't care less because I just want to get everything harvested at the same time. Each fruit's potency becomes less important when you got 80+ more fruits to pick from the same tub.

I would probably just leave it alone for now. If it gets too wet offset the lid.

I have no idea when I should pick the mushies… It seems they are still growing.
If the caps are curling up it would be good for printing and harvesting.
Probably too late for people who are looking for the nicest aesthetic but that doesn't matter to me personally.

First 2 pics show a lot of promise. I would transfer the edges of the ropey mycelium
Edit: I would do transfers to be on the safe side. Sterilizing grains is in my opinion the worst part of this hobby so I like to ensure its clean when I noc up spawn.
Also the longer you let the dish grow out you will be able to identify healthier growth.

I do. It gives me (even if false) an extra piece of mind, but I do think I recall that people who don't have had consistent success.
