 awesome!

Do you seal your swabs up right away or are you supposed to let them dry?

A quality HEPA filter doesn't need an actual "hood" for mycology IME. If there is contamination happening then there is an issue with your FFU like a leak or a compromised filter, or a bad fan, or mismatched internal space, or your ninja maneuvers in front of it are not up to snuff. Mine is small and I use it right on a table in a carpeted room without a "hood" and I have used them in some really gross places full of ambient spore and animal debris.

Filters can be swapped if they are of the same specifications.

Do you have a picture of your setup? You've sparked my curiosity.

So give it to me straight. Am I screwed? Should I throw this brick an try again or is there hopes to save?

Everything was great till my first flush. After I harvested for the first time. I soaked the bricks in distilled water for 12 hours each. It's been a week an they look like this.

For the record. Total noob here. This is my first attempt. Appreciate all the help.

I'm not sure if they can be saved, id wait for a second opinion,. but if that picture is in your fruiting chamber you should cut back your foil. It should be barely larger than the cake, that way the perlite is able to do its job properly.

No problem.. I'm not positive but I think that's part of your problem.. it looks to me like it's gotten dried out and matted.. but I'd wait for a 2nd opinion to make sure..

My recommendation would be to start your next project right away... it helps to keep a constant rotation of new projects while learning. That way, if things do go down hill on a project, you're able to just toss that project and not worry too much. Its a lot better than having to toss your only project, which really sucks.

Question: do you always dip your swabs in sterilized H2O before stabbing plates, or do you just do that with older spores?

I was dealing with a bunch of plates stalling, I thought it might have been my agar recipe because I couldn't see any visible contam... just healthy looking mycelium that grew for about a week and then stopped...

I ended up trying a different agar recipe and moving on,.. but when I went to look at the stalled plates again a couple weeks later, I could now see some sort of contamination growing.. light whispy growth.. thinking it was some type of mold  I can post some pictures of the plates at different stages when i get home so you can compare... I'd recommend holding on to your stalled plates and checking back on them in a few weeks to see of the contamination has become more visable

Hi there! I have two grows going, B+Cubenis and Golden Teacher. Everything is going great and I am harvesting right now. I did not label my grow bags after inoculation (my bad) so I don't know which strain is which.  My question is, what are the main appearance differences of Golden Teacher and B+ Cubenis? One fruiting chamber, the mushrooms are longer and skinnier with a pointy top caps. The other container, my mushrooms are shorter, round smooth caps and VERY fat.  I am harvesting right before the veils are opening if I can catch them in time. Both are golden brown in color with white veils, grey gills for those that have opened. Thanks!

They can look very similar, however I've noticed more mutations with b+... for example, if they grow with fuzzy little "puff ball hats" on top of the caps, it's b+..

Can you post a couple pictures? Probably can't tell the difference, but you may get lucky

Not sure if this worked or not? But as you can see, the tall skinny one has the point on the cap. The short fat one is more round. Both are in the process of drying so I don't have a fresh picked photo.

I'm pretty sure that the one on the left is B+

Ive gotten pointy caps from both... but I've had way more B+ look like that

The ones in this picture are GT with pointy caps, but the B+ have more of a nipple like yours.. can't find any decent pics tho..

Just :2cents: I could be wrong

Edit: here's some B+

 idk,.. smellyhobbit's right.. just mix it all together

I've used it after almost a month without issue..

I'm sure it can go a lot longer. I remember reading a thread where someone used it like 6 months after prepping it.

I've started preparing more than I need so I can easily expand a jar or 2 in the morning without needing to prep any substrate. Yes, this is the lazy way of doing things, but it works

Edit: just noticed you said bucket, I've been using sealed ziplock bags with the extra air squeezed out.  Idk if storage method will make a difference or not

Yeah Ziplocks can be a really versatile tool. If you can find the 2.5 gallon bags they're really good for making fahtlocks with more surface area, and they can hold a good amount of substrate... sometimes they have them at Walmart, but I've had better luck finding the Target brand

Idk if that would work, it might  someone else may know for sure..

Do you have any coir, vermiculite or perlite?

If so, you could aways put some in the bottom of a shoebox, put your cakes in there, cover it with plastic wrap, and poke a few holes...

It would hold you over until you're able to get your water tub up and running

Idk, just the first idea that popped in my head

There is actually a tek, where you bury them in coir, that seems to work pretty well.. I'll edit in the link when I find it

Quick question, after I got all flushes out of my substrate, can I just "enhance" it somehow, mix with coir (sugar?) and just keep on going? Or I need to do G2B again, thx.

Usually I just bury used sub outside and let it continue to fruit out there.. there is also the Endless sub tek if you want to recycle used sub.

I don't think there is any way to "enhance" it. I recommend starting your next project before your current project finishes... if you keep a constant rotation of projects, it won't be so hard to let go
