It is because there is no shaking involved so you aren't spreading the bacteria/mold from the syringe all around like you would a grain jar or bag.

This gives your mycelium a chance to take hold and possibly beat any contams.

You should be fine to leave your no-pour agar in a cupboard.  I keep mine in a shoebox.

It should be usable for approx 6 months depending on your ge hole.

If the hole is bigger you will lose a little more moisture from the agar.

Have you ever tried to grow on dry fruits  ?

I grew some blue magnolia using dried fruit.

My homie had some extra strength bag shrooms that I wanted the genetics of.
So I broke up some dried cap on agar and waited for the results. It looked super shitty so I just threw it on the shelf and eventually I got a plate pin.

I then transferred that to clean agar and got a good flush after it was all said and done.

I learned some things though. Mainly that it can be done.  But it is a dirty job like Derrald pointed out. You might get lucky though if it is a last resort. It took a long long time.  Adding yeast to my agar helped it pin Imo.

Good luck!

Quick question: I have a clone sample of a P.Cubensis strain colonizing some agar, and there does NOT seem to be any contam. Im eager to get the myc into my grain jars... but should I do a transfer before? Or just go for it?

I always go to at least to t1 and most of the time I transfer a couple times from the clone material just to get rid of any sneaky contams that aren't obvious.

Hi, I'm mentally disabled and have tramatic brain injury and PTSD. I've used these type of medicines for many years but now I'd like to get a kit to grow maybe up to a pound. I'm in Oakland and would like to know if there are any good kits out there and I'd probably grow golden teachers...

Thank you for any help,

Kelly

Hey Kelly!  Glad you are here and going to grow your own meds.  Usually we try and discourage kits because they are contam factories most of the time.

Usually we try and steer people into starting with the updated Pf tek

It is really just a little vermiculite and brown rice flour and you will have to get a syringe and some 1/2 pint jars but other then that there isn't much up front cost. It is pretty easy too. The brf jars handle contam way better then those kits most of the time.

The syringe is usually a little dirty from the vendor because mushrooms aren't grown in sterile environments.

After I had cakes that were colonized I broke 4 of them up and made a Shoebox like this.

Good luck and welcome to the Shroomery!

Imo you should get some peat based casing and throw it on there.

You just need to adjust for airflow.  Peat based casings like a slightly lower humidity.

I'm a fan of the p9 method of putting about 2 inches of coir on top after compression at spawning.  It is a little late for that now though.

You could grab the ingredients from the garden store(peat moss, pickling lime and verm) Faht's Method here or you could grab some jiffy mix from Walmart and use it as is.

Edit: added a link

Some people soak their sub between flushes.

Others like to heavily spray the sub down for a couple days after harvest.

I have tried both and both work but I like to soak. Imo it helps the next flush.

I usually get about 3-4 flushes.  A lot of the people around here only run a couple because of the diminishing returns.

I'm a fan of the Playlist on Spotify called Guided psilocybin journeys: inner peace

I tried John's hopkins Playlist for a couple trips but I kept having to skip tracks that were a little too abrasive.

I like this tek on isolating on agar.

I cut all the sub off with fabric scissors after picking, then I throw them straight in the dehydrator.

If spores got on them you can gently wipe the caps/stems with a damp paper towel. It's usually no worries though.

Question please, someone gave me a print that says big blue meanies, is there a difference between the big and regular or was it a typo. I thought I saw a web site selling the big blue meanies but couldn't find it?

Thanks,

:mushroom2:

So blue meanies are kinda confusing because there are 2 different species that carry the same name.
One is the cube  and is probably the one you have.

The other is a pan cyan originally from Australia iirc. I doubt these are characterized as "big" all that often.

I'd still go back and check which you have from who you got them from if possible. They grow in different conditions.

Hello, so me and a friend have about 7 cakes, two have had a flush harvested, have been re-dunked and put back into the chamber, and one of the other cakes has now started a nice pin set, but four of the cakes have yet to see any action (except one has a single, decent sized pin that hasn't grown in about week, but definitely isn't aborted.)

So my question is this, the four cakes that have yet to see any action have been in the chamber for like four weeks. I know the conditions must be at least somewhat correct, because as I say, we have harvested a first flush from two cakes and a pin set has begun on a third. There are no signs of contamination, and we even re-dunked the cakes with no action about ten days ago in case it was a problem with hydration. Still nothing.

Any ideas as to why some would be doing nothing for as long as a month whilst others are growing...?

We are using PF tek, a SGFC, etc.

Any help? Here are some pics. Two of the cakes with no pins have already had one flush and have been re-dunked, one cake has fruits, one cake has one pin, and about 3 or 4 of them haven't seen any action the entire time. Been over 4 weeks.

Id try putting the cakes closer together. It makes for a better micro climate.

Quick question: is my (first batch of) agar contaminated?

This is pressure canned (no pour) and from a syringe. I had maybe 1 mL (?) of liquid, and it sat right-side up in 85F+ temperatures for five days or so.

I see some bacteria colonies but you should be able to transfer some of the mycelium to clean agar jars.

Just try and transfer some away from the opaque blobs growing on the agar surface.

Next time I'd use just a drop or two to inoculate a plate. I use an inoculation loop I made out of a twist tie.

Good luck!

ooof well atleast I made 24 more cakes 3 days ago, hopefully I can taste some success off of those then. I didn't use a PC or still airbox when I noc'd that cake up on 7/25 and it was the first one I ever produced so I suppose I could of definitely had some operator error. I'll get the hang of it eventually I suppose; Now that I have some more equipment IE 23qt Presto PC and a proper SAB. Thanks for the reply bro

If the mycelium takes over those dark areas you might be able to top fruit it like this

Don't throw it away just yet.  Bacterial spawn often fruits if you throw a baggie and some verm on the top.

I usually cover my grain with a top coat of c/v to protect them from all the competitors out there in the air.

It will probably fruit for you though.

Quick question: I been reading on here allot that keeping your jars in darkness isn't necessary anymore. So this time I kept my jars sitting out on the table right beside another fruiting chamber that is on a 12 hour light/dark cycle. On all 10 jars, the side of the jar that faces the 12 hour light/dark cycle is half grains half good white fuzzy, yet the side of the jars that face away from the light are completely full of the good white fuzzy. I highly doubt that everyone on here is full of bologna about the darkness thing so what could be causing one side, in all 10 jars, to colonize slower than the other side? I suspect too  much moisture left in my oats is the culprit but in the pics below there is moisture in both sides, the colonized side and uncolonized side?

This is my first time following Boda's Oat Tek too? It took 12 days from injection for the penis envy to get to this point. Pint jars (not quart) cause I got a normal sized pressure cooker.

I usually shake my grain at around 20% colonization and it spreads the mycelium through it the whole jar for you.  I'd Give that a shot.

It could have been you shot more juice in that side.  It is interesting.
