Revisiting LC and UVC

Hi. I'm a new cultivator. I plan to take this from a hobby stage into a small farm once I get the proper skills and experience. This is just a thought so don't shoot me for being a newbie -
What if... if you have a strain already cultivated... make LC directly and then expose your jars of LC to UVC to disable any contaminants? This takes some of the risk factors of LC being invisibly contaminated and saves a second agar step - that is, if the UVC kills everything but the mycelium then your LC is essentially good to go...

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I'm not assuming what UVC will and won't do, just trying to sort out contradictory information by asking people who aren't trying to sell me something or boost their ego... My understanding was that the UV-C attacks everything, but is much more lethal to bacteria and spores...like the cancer treatments that half kill you but totally kill the cancer (in theory). And the danger with LC is that you can't see contamination so you should re-agar the culture to verify that it is clean. What I was thinking was having several LC jars circled around a UVC lamp for a timed interval that would maybe stunt the mycelium a little but otherwise 'clean house', maybe slowing things down a day or two. Is there a happy dosage between ineffectiveness and 'mycelium murder'? This isn't the only outside-the-box thought I've had about doing mushroom grows. I'm not a space cadet know it all, but as a touring musician, I make people happy by being creative. So I appreciate and respect all the help and insight... as well as patience with what seem to be dumb questions. I have a good track record of striking gold eventually.

UVC is a waste of time & money for mycology. It's not effective enough to be of value with dense materials and it would definitely harm any mycelium. You can't selectively kill organisms with it like that - you need to start with absolutely NO living organisms in the LC (sterilized) then only add an axenic culture from agar. Once you do that correctly, you have clean LC.

My flow cabinet has a UVC light for helping santize work surfaces that i also wipe down with iso. Theyre good for that. But theyre not gonna magically clean your cultures for you. Thats your job.

Thanks. I'm in the process of developing my agar game... I love the rabbit hole aspect of mycology.

The problem is that UVC don't pass through glass o plastic, so is going to do nothing inside your LC culture jar or syringe.

well as everyone already said, it wouldnt work, and id like to add that getting clean cultures just isnt that hard once you get the hang of it. no need to hunt down new tech. if you want to be able to scale up put your money into the PC and LFH

Proper sterile work practices is a great rabbit hole
