Hey guys, I'm hoping you guys have some information for me. Me and all my friends who got NSS spores from the same vendor, are having this weird growth. We've been at it for a couple months, and havn't been able to get a fruit, and we all have the same issue. It starts to make odd metabolites and we're being told its mycogone. My last 3 bag grows did this same thing but with yellow metabolites, and my buddies did too. Now the metabolites are blue. I have been transfered out to about t5 I think and have pretty fuckin nice looking agar, as well as grain jars. Not sure what is causing this. Hoping you guys tell me its normal and we just need to let it sit longer...

I was feeling really good about these until both tubs started doing this today. Feels bad. This is about 5 months into trying to grow mushrooms for me and I still have only fruited plate pins :|

Here's a link to the rest of the grow.

This culture can be replicated easily with transfers. Makes same pattern.

Also, I think I may have crossed NSS with APE. (I can't figure out how to grow mushrooms though... so shit.

The "old man on the porch, screaming to get off my lawn" in me is saving my genetics as they are! They are beautiful, strong but gentle.

I agree with YoshiTrainer on this.

The old man on the porch over here is screaming get the fuck away from Nats!
Cube'ing a far superior mushroom seems asinine in my book.  How about just bigger nats like Derrayld did?
:mushroom2:  Nats are the future, cubes can suck a nut

Edit: Orbeez can suck a nut too.  Here's what works for a 66 quart tub...

650-700 grams coir,
3 quarts vermiculite,
4.25ish quarts h2o,
3 pounds (4 myco quarts) grain spawn,
and some FAE per Pastywhyte's tubs.

Golden.

I just spawned my first nat tub last night. I did about 2:1 cv to 3q oat spawn. I'm just going to basically pretend they are cubes and see how it goes.

That’s normal for natalensis, just be patient and it’ll fruit. Culture selection has turned out to be a big deal for most of us in here. Just keep transferring from different sectors and growing it out until you find a good one. Yours is actually pretty tame compared to a lot of the stuff weve seen.

Also that thick overlay mycelium has been reported to be active by multiple people lately.

Just remember these aren’t cubensis so it’s a little different. WELL worth growing though.

Where's the overlay on the stone producer tub?

I don't think that's natalensis either. Even tubs without thick overlay end up with a white surface when it's nat.

I've never grown stone producers but the myc in that stone producing "nat" tub from discord is thin and wispy and translucent.

It reminds me of pans or shaggy mane more than natalensis, which tends to have even thicker, whiter myc than cubes.

Hey all, first I’m new to posting on here, just created an account. I’m the guy with the Ps natalensis tub producing sclerotia. I know y’all are skeptical, I was plain shocked when I discovered the sclerotia. I am 100% certain this is not a mislabel as I am very meticulous with my labeling and keep track of everything using physical labels and an excel spreadsheet. Yes the fruiting tub is a different tub, but it’s from the same print as the one producing sclerotia. Yes there is no overlay, and I have no explanation for that. I will agree that even when you don’t get overlay the surface is very white, with fruiting tubs anyway. Yes I have worked on tamps in the past, but I had harvested the sclerotia from them before I started this on agar and hadn’t had tamp spores out in 3 months.

I’m willing to send samples to anyone who would like to work with this stone producing natalensis. Naysayers say what you will, but I have no reason to lie about this as there is absolutely nothing to gain in doing so. I plan to harvest the stones later today, maybe tomorrow if things don’t work out. My plan is to clone a few of the larger stones and let a few of the smaller ones dry out for a few weeks then rehydrate and put to sub to try for fruits. If anyone is in contact with Alan Rockefeller or anyone else capable of sequencing them I’ll be more than happy to send samples. I can add pics when I figure out how to do that.

The Nat substrate I buried outside seems to be liking this record heat and humidity. It has grown through the nearly 1 inch of soil I covered it with, and there are some little mushrooms starting. Seems like the slugs are getting them though.

Thanks for posting.

I'm not calling you a liar and I don't want to sound aggressive. It just seems like something weird is happening here and it looks nothing like any other nat grows I've seen, even beyond the fact that it's producing stones.

I think we won't know until you fruit the stones. If natalensis fruits come out, then you can say for sure.

Maybe you had latent spores in the lab and made some sort of opportunity cross.

Hi ConsistentPublic, if you harvest those sclerotia, one thing relatively sure to check is maybe the smell as natalensis have distinctive odor (cubensis like) different from tampanensis/mexicana, not saying you are wrong just best human can make a mistake even possible cross-contam directly from the print or a tool (I hope it’s true just already a good bunch of people observed natalensis but never stones with those yet so doubt is understandable...)
Let us know how they smell and/or let see if this tube fruit soon! ; )

Seems like burying and fruiting a stone would be the thing to do here.

Actually just cloning to a plate should answer the question, tamp and natal have vastly different mycelium.

The consistency of the "stones" also matters. If it's just dense myc, it will be squishy. If it's a legit stone, it will break apart under pressure.
