Greetings to all fellow Judges, Participants, Spectators and travellers and WELCOME to the First grow along competition for noob or noob-like individuals. Firstly id like to say WOW! im so happy to be hosting this grow event. I never thought so many of you would be as interested and excited as me to make this happen. 4 Weeks ago i embarked on a journey to hunt for my fellow noobs hiding in the vast caves of this forum. I have found my warriors. However i needed a way to tame these beasts without getting bit. Thats when i searched for 4 expert cultivators to help moderate but more importantly judge these folk. The 4 Masters - Crackatoa - Derrayld - Sandman420 - Fahtster These are the experts chosen, Their word is everything. You must obey what is said to you by them. They have spent a collective amount of years doing this that totals to more than the age of most of you, respect that. The Warriors: - San Pedro Guy - Seamonkey84 - JW123 - RedNeckBow - Nef - Ankhseramun - Myc54 -Chromosome - JohnTB -BlueandOrange - FungiPapi - Vibetyme - Bobbins -MurphSmurph - Crabaniac - CowsPoopShrooms -Im a Tryin - ChrIsDxtrWrd - Offworld - Mershroom Start date : 16-06-2022 (ignore timezones, start when you wake up) End date: TBA - Official Rules - - 4 Pints or 2 Quarts of spawn. - P.cubensis ONLY - You may use spawn jars or bags however you are limited to 4 jars or bags. This is due to the fact that anyone could use 20 jars with 4qt of spawn distributed evenly and have them colonise a lot quicker. - If something contams, its gone and considered a fallen soldier. eg: one pint jar contams, rest of the grow will be 3 pints. - Spawn to bulk at ratios 1:2 and higher NOT 1:1 (state your ratio) - Biggest rule of them all, dont be a liar. we are using the honour system, if you have a contam, post it. If you want to use a 1:1 spawn ratio...dont - Keep the thread updated by editing your entry post, dont just keep posting comments or your updates will be lost. It will also annoy the fuck out of me and i will delete your posts, remember there is ike 18 of you - Inoculate on day one of the grow, remember be honourable...also i have trusted cultivators watching your every move. they will know if youre playing games. - inoculate via Spore Syringe, LC or agar. NOT grain. - TAKE PHOTOS, take notes and update your comment as a grow log, Im unsure if there is a cap on the word count for a post reply. if you hit the cap, Simply make a new post reply and quote/ reply to yourself to continue. You will be judged on: - Speed - Size of fruit - Look of fruit - Canopy density - WET weight/Dry weight (your spawn ratio will be factored in) - Creativity In your Post reply you MUST state: - Grain used - Dry weight of grain -Size of jars / Bags - Start date - Bulk substrate - Methods used for cultivation, this should be in a grow log type format - What the fuck you're growing (cubes only remember) - Time stamp of every move (just the date is okay) If you do not wish to follow the rules, you don't need to participate. That being said, best of luck. May the odds be ever in your favour. -=-=-=FOR THOSE WHO PRE-PREPPED THEIR GRAIN BEFORE THE RULES WERE RELEASED, PLEASE ENSURE YOU JAR UP THE SAME AMOUNT OF GRAIN USED AND WEIGH IT DRY--=-=-= Quote: Quote: Edited by MushieMafia (10/04/22 02:58 PM)

P. Cubensis Huautla Strain!
Fuck yeah that’s what I’m growing! I’m excited to be a part of this Noob Grow along! I got interested in mycology in February of 2022. After over 20 years since my last experience with any type of hallucinogenic substances it was time to dig deep. Why buy when I can grow. Control my products quality and strength. Learn all I could about this amazing life cycle of the mushroom. So here I am, multiple books read over and over about growing and I’ve had some decent harvests so far if you ask me. Lol If only I had found this amazing site prior to starting things would have gone a bit different and my methods would have been better. Wonderful information has been obtained from literature but it doesn’t compare to the wealth of knowledge contained here. Anyways let’s do this. Grains Used - Whole Oats (Producers Pride brand) Using two 1qt Ball wide mouth Mason jars with modified lids!(Filter stickers and Self healing ports) Dry grain weight - 330g +/- per jar (660g +/- total) Knocked up jars on 6/16/22 using 10cc MSLC syringe (5cc per 1qt Jar) 6/10/22 Pre challenge LC prep! Pulled MSLC from cold storage. Originally created on 3/26/22 using 3% Karo, 1% DME, 1g peptone and 500ml distilled water. MSS used to sporulate LC. Of course I now know I should have taken it to agar first but it has been taken to agar since and showed clean. First attempt for me at anything and she’s done good so far. She deserves the spotlight. Haha Fresh from the fridge 6/10 After being stirred 6/12 6/12/22 Pre challenge grain prep. My method for grains! I’m a five gallon bucket kinda guy as well as a soaker. I like to measure out my grains by just using Qt jars as my measuring device. I tell myself that one jar of dry grain is equal to two jars finished grain. Why do I believe what this asshole tells me. I’m always left with enough grains for several jars more than I plan on prepping. Guess subconsciously I’m encouraging myself to grow more mush! Haha I rinse the grains thoroughly straining and repeating until water is clear. I use a modified bucket with a bunch of holes in it as a strainer. Works great for large amounts of grain. Fill bucket with water twice as high as grains, pop the lid on and let soak for 12-24 hrs. After time has passed the grains get strained and rinsed again. This is the time I remove any floaters in the mix that rise to the top as they are rinsed. After all floaters are removed and water again is clear grains are strained once more and transferred to my PC pot. Fresh water is added to about 2in to 3in above grain line. Slowly bring to boil stirring often to keep grains from sticking to bottom of pot. Reduce heal and boil for 15 to 20 min. I check moisture content of grains by removing a sample and cutting in half. Im looking for a translucent inside of the grain and not a milky white appearance. When translucent moisture content has been achieved IMO. When satisfied with moisture content grains are strained over my home made grain screen. I spread them out and and let the outside moisture evaporate off. This is caused by the boiling water steaming from the grain when in contact with ambient air. But you guys and gals know all that shit. Lol Grains loaded into jars. Lids left loose and covered with foil. PC for 90min at 15 psi and let naturally depressurization occur. BOOM!!! Grains are ready for inoculation (after temperature has been stabilized to room temp of course). 6/16/22 TIME FOR GRAIN NOCKING!!! 6/20/22 Got some life!!!! 1st jar! 2nd jar! 6/21/22 Jar Update! 1st Jar! 2nd Jar! Probably shake them in next day or so. 6/22/22 I couldn’t wait. Had to shake. Lol I like to use the sole of my boot to break up grains. Soft enough to not break jar but hard enough to do a great job at breaking things up. Let’s see how they recover!! 6/27/22 Just a quick update on jars post shake. 7/1/22 Time to prep substrate! Items I use. 650g coir 8 cups vermiculite 1 cup gypsum powder 1 cup worm castings 18 cups water I break up my brick of coir by hand while water is boiling. Then add other ingredients to the mix. Distribute evenly then added boiling water. Pop the lid on, wrap with a towel and let set for 12-24 hours. After that mix well, check for proper field capacity and she’s ready to go. I can get two 32q tubs out of this recipe. 7/5/22 spawn to bulk Pre shake Post shake Using a 32qt tub with pasty’s ez dial tek. 1/2 ratio of 2qt spawn to 4qt substrate with a 1/4 in top casing. Liner created with black trash bag double layer so one layer will stick to sun while other layer stays on tub during consolidation. 7/10/22 tub update. Looking good to me. Bet I see some pins in next few days. ![]() 7/13/22 Few Days Later. Lol Colonizing good! Look A Little Closer! ![]() PINS BABY!!! ![]() 7/15/22 more pins! 7/17/22 I’m loving the sights!!! 7/18/22 Time for first flush!!! Had a lot of caps open completely so I decided it was time to get to picking. Would have loved a fuller canopy. Maybe on second flush I’ll get lucky. Wanted to get them before they dropped spores. Hate a tub full of spores. ![]() I don’t cut my fruit when I’m harvesting I like to twist and pull oh so gently but as you can see it still likes to leave wounds in my substrate. Here’s my bounty!! After picking and before drying I trim the butts up with a knife to get them cleaned up. I need to get me a good brush and start cleaning them that way. Feel like I’m loosing out on soo many actives discarding the coir covered ends. Wet Weight after cleanup = 378g Here are a few of the largest of the bunch. No big ole fat boys in this run. Stems are good and solid. Will update dry weight tomorrow! 7/19/22 1st flush results Managed 31g dry. There small but I bet they’ll be kind to my mind!!! 7/22/22 second harvest! Second flush pulled 228g wet 21 grams dry. Sorry forgot to take pic of dried fruit for second flush. Had some nice clusters this round and they were overall bigger in size than the first flush. 7/28/22 Third Flush!!!! Got some goodies in my box again!!! Got this one guys looking way different from the rest. 202g wet Pulled 16g dry from it. 8/3/22 4th and final flush!! Manage to pull a last small batch out of my tub. Let them go a little long. Lot of spore stains on some. This guy had a pretty cap with a nice spore patter I thought looked neat. He was also the largest of this pick. 246g wet 17g dry After the fourth flush the sub was done. He had thrown in the towel and bowed out. A proper burial ceremony was performed in my back yard. Shall he rest with the rest. Lol Quick rundown -Inoculated grains on 6/12 -Spawn to bulk 7/5 -First pins 7/13 -First flush 7/18 -Wet weight 378g -Dry weight 31g -Second flush 7/22 -Wet weight 227g -Dry weight 21g -Third flush 7/28 -Wet weight 202g -Dry weight 16g -Fourth flush 8/3 -Wet weight 246g -Dry weight 17g Total elapsed time for grow 53 days! Total wet weight 1,053 grams! Total dry weight 85 grams! I want to thank MushieMafia for putting the grow along on and all the other competitors and judges. I was hesitant to join at first being brand new to the shroomery and cultivation. I’m so glad I did. Had a blast sharing my experience with all the other competitors and seeing there work as well. A lot was learned and many friends made. See you on the next one!!! THATS ALL FOLK!!! Edited by HILLBILLY OUTLAW (08/09/22 05:29 PM)

Grain used: Red Sorghum (Milo)
Jars or bags: 2 x 1 Quart Grain Tek Used: https://www.shroomery.org/forum Dry grain weight: 475g Cubensis variety: FP+ from swabs. Multispore. T2 plates. Pre contest prep: I started with 2.5 cups of milo for 2 quart jars. Rinsed and boiled them, loaded them in jars and PCed them in advance (I will weigh the 2.5 cups of dry milo later to update this). I had previously grown out a Petri dish of FP+ (pandering to one of the judges) and placed it in the fridge. I took it out of the fridge 2 days ago to let it warm up for today. 6/16/22 Today I put 1/3 of the agar from a 100mm Petri in each of 2 quarts of milo. I’m off and running. 6/30 Gave the jars their first shake today. Did 2 test jars last night that aren’t my official entries and they recovered so fast I decided it was time to shake the candidates. 7/4 Gave the jars their second shake tonight. Was tough going. The FP+ mycelium is tough. 7/12 Almost done colonizing. Should be going to shoeboxes this weekend. 7/25 Finally went to bill today. 1:5 CV P9 style, substrate a little wetter than field capacity. Fingers crossed. Hoping for just one big flush. Trying for a one and done with this one. 8/4 Tubs are growing in slowly, with the 1:5 ratio and cool temps, I am not surprised. What I am surprised about is how quickly it seems to be growing up through the top pseudo casing layer. I expected the substrate in the bottom to colonize more evenly before this started to break through since the substrate and grain spawn were thoroughly mixed. Here’s a closeup of the top of the first tub above, the one with the most top growth. I guess I get a DNF. My grow failed. I tried an experiment to get one big flush and it didn’t work. My substrate was too wet for the volume I think. My tubs are not colonizing. I did a separate grow with the same wet substrate at 1:2 instead of 1:5, and those are fruiting, but those aren’t in the contest. I guess I will continue my experiments in trying to get to a one and done solution. 8/21 Formally admitting defeat. My effort to do P9 style 1:5 with slightly wetter substrate is officially being given up on. I failed with this effort for a “one and done” big harvest.

Grain used: Wild Bird Seed (WBS) specifically a canary blend. Jars or bags: 4 x Wide mouth pint jars Tek Used: Foomans WBS prep TEK Dry grain weight: 600 grams Variety growing: Golden teacher MS Isolate Method: To start off my grain i measured out how much i would need. I filled my jars a bit past half way (too much), Grabbed an empty jar to tare my scale and weighed. My dry weight of grain per jar came up to aprox 190 grams per jar. I tipped all my grain into a container and brought a pot of water to a roaring boil. I quickly dumped my grain in and cut the heat off completely, covered and let steep for 2 hours Completely forgetting to add my gypsum to the water...fuck Once the 2 hours had elapsed i removed the lid and drained the grain into a strainer, did the thingy chefs do to drain pasta and then left to sit for 30-40 mins. This may seem weird but its a tek that i followed on my test jar and its going great. Upon inspecting the grain i noticed that almost every grain of a certain type in the mix had burst...fuck fuck fuck the same thing happened to the test jar but all went well there, in saying this i was able to remove all that i could in the test jar...this was too much to remove...but we move on. I loaded my jars fairly high with a large spoon, shook lightly to level out and wiped the rims. - Observations prior to PC'ing Grain looks very wet and is still firm, im hoping during the PC process that the grain softens slightly and absorbs the excess moisture. Grain is also slightly clumpy due to burst grain sticking together with other grains. my house smells like oates...it was probably oates that burst, i just thought oates were bigger. Cook time bitches. I filled up my Presto 23qt PC with 3qt of water as recommended, placed my trivet in and let come to a boil. I then covered and loaded my jars, Set the lid and waited for the pressure to climb to 15PSI, made sure the pressure was stable and then set a timer for 1.5 hours. Once the timer had gone off i turned the gas off and let depressurise naturally. once it indicated zero PSI (checked in after aprox 15 mins) i sta the lid slightly off centre as to help facilitate cooling. Unfortunately it was time for bed at this point and i decided to shake the jars in the morning...Then i woke up when i was supposed to start work and had to leave before i could do anything ![]() The Inoculation: Finally the time had come to view my pressure cooked jars, i wsa quite nervous. The grain had expanded quite significantly whilst steeping yet it was still quite hard and wet...I should have taken this into account whilst loading my jars..i knew they would expand more but i just didnt think about it then. My jars were overfilled as fuck, maybe an inch on top to shake...fuck. On top of that i didnt shake the jars after pc and the grain had completely stuck together i presume due to the starches, i should have rinsed the grain after steeping but i didnt. I spent the next half hour smacking my jars on various objects to try my best to loosen my grain... Not a great start. Once loose i gloved up, got my ISO, new syringe and needle and my trusty LC. Sucked up a LOT and then injected maybe 1.5ml per jar, touch overkill but eh. Once inoculated i gave the jars a quick shake and set down for a few hours before shaking again, as stated the jars are way too ful and very clumpy, some of the clumps are huge and it makes maxing the grain a royal bitch. I am really hoping that the mycelium will consume the starches in between the grain first thus making a break n shake possible. However i face a larger problem, one i have known about and had been dreading for a while...i leave for holiday in a week...for a week. I will have to do a break n shake before i leave and then just S2B when im back, i will loose a few days and will be at a slight disadvantage but what can ya do. Test jar is killing it currently, will be ready for S2B tomorrow. First signs of growth!! On the morning of 19-06-22 i decided to finally have a look at my jars. BOOYAH i se growth, im not sure when exactly it became visible but it deffs is now. The following photos are from when i made the discovery, this morning they had spread out a fair bit. Next update will be photos prior and post break and shake the day i leave for my trip (23rd). Okay so i couldnt wait and wanted to do another update. my jars are killing it, I will be doing my BnS tonight after work and will take more photos then. after my BnS im sure they will be 100% in 3 days or less, its crazy how fast these are going, cant wait to fucking handicap myself with this holiday (im grumpy). I was sure i was going to be one of the first to spawn to bulk but unfortunately i have another 8 days to wait now ![]() These were taken over 24 hours ago on the morning of 21-06-22, the jars all had a 90 degree turn between pics. Since this photo was taken the growth has continued to explode! This LC and WBS seem to love each other so much. Break and Shake time! Sitting on an Airplane typing this rn so won’t be as pretty. I did a BnS yesterday afternoon (22-06-22) the growth was looking great and it was ready and I kinda had to do it then anyways. Pre Shake: As previously done, 90 degree turn between pics! Post Shake: I am back in action motherfuckers. I returned from my holiday late last night and was greeted by 4 nice looking jars of spawn :-) Photo taken aprox 11 hours ago from time of edit. (30-06-22) All 4 jars are ready for the next phase, Spawn to bulk hehehehehe im so excited. The Spawn to Bulk I aim to spawn these jars either tonight or tomorrow morning.I will be spawning my WBS jars to Straight Coir and Gypsum. However i still had a small portion of coir that had been sitting in my pasteurisation bucket for over a week that needed to be disposed of as well as the bucket needed a clean out. I was nervous of bacteria forming whilst it was sitting there so i rinsed it out and then followed with a bit of hot water and bleach, closed the lid, gave it a shake and left it for 10 mins. I shook once again and then disposed of the solution and rinsed well. Whilst i was waiting for the bleach to do its thing i put a large pot of water on the stove and brought it to a boil. I grabbed a 2/3 brick of coir and added it to the bucket before covering in the boiling water. The exact amount of coir and water is not specified as i could not be fucked doing the calculations for perfect field capacity due to the fact that it was APROX 2/3 brick and i dont think i will be coming close to using all of it. Its just easier for me to give it a quick squeeze before use. Spawn to bulk ratio will be noted when i actually get around to Spawning it. Spawning To Bulk These are the two "No Touch Mini Monos" that i crafted a few weeks back. They are 10L Sistema Gasketed storage containers that i have modified in hopes to have a no touch grow. The tubs have 4 x 1" Holes each. Two on the long side and two on the short, with the short holes being as high as they can go and the long ones being as low, just like a mono. I only had Micropore Tape at the time so i went with that to cover the holes, the lower holes had two layers while the higher ones only had the one layer. Items Used: - 4 x Pint of grain spawn - 2 x Modified tubs - 2 x Regular garbage bin bags...actually i lied they are scented but all i had - 1 x Bag of pre-prepared Hydrated coir + Gypsum - Clear tape - Iso - Scalpel - Scissors - Gloves - Paper towels - Spare jar for measuring substrate Now that i had everything out and ready for me to start it was time for me to make my liner. I unrolled a new bag, cut the top and the bottom off straight away and then fluffed the bag out. I only wanted a single layer of plastic as i dont find the need to have it doubled over so i split the bag down the middle and opened it out. Once it was open i did a rough cut and then dropped it in the tub and tried to trim it a little more before setting it in the container and adding a little tape to hold it where i wanted it. I was almost ready to mix my spawn, I grabbed two Pint jars and and started smacking them on the bottom of my partners Dr Martin boots to quickly break up the grain. I placed the jars down and then wiped the outside and lid with Iso as to try and limit contaminant exposure, keep in mind this is being done in my kitchen. I finally gloved up, Iso'd my gloves and then cleaned the tub and liner with iso and a paper towel. I then scooped up 2 Pints of coir and placed it into the tub followed by 2 Pints of Grain spawn...Oh no P A N I C. I was getting nervous that my substrate would get too high and would be above my bottom holes, i was panicking when i took this photo...wondering if i should try and quickly whip up a liner for the other tub and take half out and put it in there. I decided that was a bad bad idea for many reasons and i was being irrational, there was probably going to be enough space, now also remembering that i was aiming to pack mu sub fairly firm. I Persevered. I scooped another two Pints of coir and placed them into the tub before carefully and meticulously mixing the whole lot. I tried my best tow make sure it was mixed super even before starting to lightly tamp down all over, Once this was done i went again but a bit firmer starting at the edges all the way around as i feel like this is something that gets often missed. Once that was done i pressed down the rest of the substrate till i felt it was level with the edges. I was happy with how this went and it ended up at a good depth for the modifications i made. After the above Photo was taken i grabbed my jar and filled it up with another pint of coir, i then tried to scatter it as evenly as possible before spreading it out with my fingers and lightly tamped it down. My Tub was pretty much complete and ready to colonise! This was repeated with the other tub then both tub liner were given a quick final trim and the tubs were given a quick surface misting before they were sealed, not to be opened till harvest...i hope. Total Amount of field capacity hydrated coir was 5 Pints total including my casing Per tub. Time stamp of S2B was 7:30pm AEST 01-07-2022 Now i wait. 48 Hour update: Its only been a couple days since ive spawned this to bulk but i thought eh, what the fuck i may as well just show everything that is going on. Not in great detail, just a few words till more interesting things occur. Tub 1. Tub 2. Time stamp of Photos: Exactly 48 hours after Spawn to Bulk. 7:30pm 03-07-2022 AEST Its a bit easier to see in the pic of Tub 2 but you can see that the grain has started to recover and grow into the substrate! looking good! I Wish these tubs were slightly taller so i could have had my holes a tad higher to allow a thicker substrate, however on the other hand my sub is quite packed. A quick view through the lids of one of the tubs: Its now a bit more obvious that i didnt properly cover my grains, i was afraid of my casing being too high up and therefore close to the FAE holes that it would dry up in that area so i was careful with how high i went. looking back i wished i cased a bit more thick and i wish i had someone holding a torch for me so i wasnt blocking the overhead light when working close to the surface. Im not looking to patch this grow as im trying my hardest to set and forget. I had a look at my tubs this morning and there is a lot more condensation, a circular ring around the bottom holes and an arch like ring for the top holes. My FAE seems to be great. High hopes. Time stamp of photo 06-07-2022 6:30am AEST Quick update on the tubs, All is going goooood. I forgot to previously mention that they are being kept in a 120L storage tote, this is to reduce water loss. I had a look in on the grow this morning. The pic of the surface of tub one fucked up and i didnt realise till i went to upload so ive only got a pic of tub 2 surface and both tubs from the side. Nothing too interesting. All seems to be on track, i seem to be the only one who has spawned their jars at this point...how lonely... One thing i should mention is that my substrate is flat, however its a little sloped. Im going to make the prediction that one side of the tub will be more prolific. We will know soon enough I told myself that I would wait a few days before doing another update but what I’m the heck. The following is a photo of Tub 2 taken by myself LAST NIGHT according to my iPhone gallery (shows when photos are taken). So when I went to have a look at my tubs tonight you could expect that I was quite shocked. This is Tub 1: This is Tub 2: Time stamp of above photos and edit: 07-07-2022 6:30pm AEST So fucking quick, my spawn ratio was pretty high so I expected quick but this is mind blowing to me. It’s actually scary, there is a possibility it’s contam but to me it looks like tomentose myc with a bit of rhizo. Check back when cooler things are happening…probably soon Quick update from last night 12-07-2022 7:30pm AEST i decided to quickly have a peek at my tubs last night in between episodes of rick and morty....i was Morty-fied...get it? okay sorry. Tub 2 had fucking 2 fungus gnats in there shit shit shit! i quickly took my tub to the kitchen and was able to scoop on out on paper towel without killing it and the other was stuck to the side inside a drop of water, i wiped the sucker out and then wiped over with iso. I really hope they didnt lay eggs in there or something. They seemed to have entered via a small gap where MPT had peeled away. Very annoying, i hope it doesnt go bacterial or doesnt have any more in there. Tub 1 seemed okay. Since i opened a tub i decided to give them a quick misting. Nothing else interesting happened. Another gnat was found 13-07-2022 Possible Pin??? Time of observation and picture 14-07-2022 8:20pm AEST Last night i had a close look at my tubs and i was greeted by a white dot on the surface of tub 2... was this primordia? is is about to start happening? Im not sure but i hope so. My tubs seemed quite humid, lots of surface moisture but almost too much and the tubs were always cold. I decided to pull them out of the tote they were in and sit them up the top of a closet in indirect light. hopefully they get nice and warm there and the added FAE will boost pin production. Pic of what i saw: Time of observation: 16-07-2022 8:00am AEST This morning I woke up eager to look at my tubs, I need pins soon! It looks like my wishes may be in effect. Not 100% but it looks like both tubs are starting to pin. I’ve only spotted 3 spots that I’m pretty sure are individual pins but it’s a start and usually how it begins. Tub 1 had 2 of these and tub 2 had one so far. TUB 1 (top right in pic one and top middle in pic 2) TUB 2 (close up) Will update more later. Pics will come days later for suspense :-) Time of observation 17-07-2022 8:00am AEST Woke up and had a look, have two confirmed pins in each tub and a blob in tub 1. Both tub have a pin each which has the cap darkened up and one white so far. Time of observation: 21-07-2022 4:00pm Basically both tubs are not doing fantastic…both tubs have 4-6 little mushrooms in them but finally I am starting to see primordia forming here and there, not as covered as I’d like but hey at this point I’ll take anything. Side of tub 2: Zoomed in pic of tub 2 surface: Time of observation 23-07-2022 9:30am AEST My fears have come true, the few pins that came early have matured and the primordia has stopped growing ![]() I was left with a MONSTER in one of the tubs, hoping the the first to grow in the other tub also becomes a monster. By far the biggest shroom I’ve grown and she’s not getting harvested till tomorrow. Almost ready to forfeit, this grow has been humiliating almost…pic of the big fella First partial harvest of the first flush: I decided to pull one mushroom from each tub, it was the second biggest in one tub (the one with the monster) and the biggest in the other tub. Both were picked and weighed wet and placed into my dehydrator. First Second Wet weight so far: 32.34 grams Time of harvest 25-07-2022 4:00pm AEST Yesterday at above time stamp i decided to pull out the big boi from tub 2 upon arriving home from work. i was very surprised to see another giant in tub 1. I opened one tub at a time and decided to pick the most mature fruit and give the rest some time to grow out. however it looks like the rest apart from a couple decent mushrooms that are still growing will be small and skinny In saying this is was pretty happy with the weight of the mushrooms i picked.Big Fella that i ended up taking two clones of that ive nicknamed "Golden Dong": The rest incl golden dong: Time of harvesting 26-07-2022 7:30pm AEST Last night i decided to both harvest a couple shrooms that were ready and weigh the dried bunch. Im not 100% sure but im pretty sure i harvested out of tub 1, it doesnt matter regardless i just wish i knew for sure. i harvested 2 shrooms and it came out to 24.43 grams wet. The lot i had drying finished up at 11.18 grams dry. Finally i decided it was time to finish off the first flush of this grow. My mushrooms were growing quite slow and it was kinda annoying me but at long last it was time. I didnt end up taking as many photo as i wanted to but here is what i got. Two mushies pictured before their untimely death hugging and their silly child in between 1843 colourised: both tubs emptied, i had so many little guys and a fair bit of side pins and bottom pins. doesnt bother me. more mush ![]() the time had come to see the digits... *tare* BOOM! 287 grams wet! helllllll yeah! This brings the total of my first flush to 442.86 wet grams!! Pretty happy with that, going for much higher numbers next time. As well as this i finished drying another 2 shrooms and the rest and now being dried! The two came out to 2.63 grams dry. Finally i came down to weighing the last of the dried lot from flush 1. The dry weight from the last bunch came down to 28.54 grams dry! very happy with that. in previous grows with diff genetics i was loosing much more than 90%. FIRST FLUSH Wet weight total: 442.86 FIRST FLUSH Dry weight total: 45.98 grams The second flush My second flush has now started pinning in both tubs, tub 1 is well ahead and is looking real nice so far. tub 2 has a few pins and a bunch of primordia but not too much happening. Pic of Tub 1: Pic of Tub 2: Both photos were taking last night (31-07-2022) at 3:30pm AEST more soon folks Quick photo update of Tub 2. Tub 1 had a few shrooms and a bunch of pins forming, Tub 2 is a few days ahead and looks like it will be a decent flush. Not the full canopies i was looking for but decent hopefully. This photo was taken yesterday 01-08-2022 7:55pm AEST I will try and wait till just before harvest for the next update...well ill try okay i tried and failed. i cant help it sorry lol. The veils have started to form on the mushrooms, the leader of the flush is close to tearing, will probs happen today. im going to try and not pick it till tomorrow evening as im trying to harvest all at once hopefully. I only took a couple photos, one showing a side view from tub 1 and one showing the inside of one part of tub 2. Tub 1 is looking good, bit more spaced out than i would have liked but its looking alright if i say so myself. Tub 2 has a tighter grouping of pins however its more towards one side of the tub. Either way its looking alright, im just hoping the big fellas wont out compete the lil ones. I might pick the bigger ones when i harvest tub 1 to give the rest some more love. Below Photos were taken 03-08-2022 6:15 am AEST Tub 1: Anyways, hopefully next update is harvest 2! Flush 2 havest motherfuckers! Tie stamp of harvest: 8:20pm 03-08-2022 AEST Tub 1 was ready for harvest, most of the caps still had their veil intact but by the time i would get the harvest the next day i thought they would be well and truly late to harvest. In saying that i dug in. I put my hand on the surface and flipped my tub upside down to remove the cake. I set it on top of a fresh garbage bag and began to fuck up my substrate. I initially opted for twist and pull but it was really fucking my shit up so i ended up cutting at the base for majority of the rest of the harvest. Pulled out a couple nice specimens. All in all this harvest was alright, was hoping for a denser pinset but its flush 2 and i missed that boat in flush 1 i guess. Total wet weight for tub 1 : 256 grams. Not impressive. (i didnt have a bowl on hand and i couldnt be fucked grabbing one so i grabbed GTA V) Now to talk about tub 2. It was lagging behind by a couple days but i would still check it twice a day to see how it was fairing. This morning was no bueno. I noticed something black on the stipe of a mushroom from afar...o fuk. I quickly grabbed the tub down and had a look. The gnats were back the fucks. but not just 2 or 3. a whole bunch. i spent the next couple of mins scouring the landscape of my tub and hunting down the fucks. i killed 13 total. i think this tub may be fucked for flush 3 for sure, a few of them were more brown and a little bigger and i assume these to be fertilized females. Not only this but a lot of the shrooms seem stunted in growth now. I will have to hold off on harvesting as i dont currently have space in my dehydrator... I jumped the gun and had to redo my update bc i didnt save it ughhhhh. Flush 2 of tub 2 turned out at be alright after killing all the gnats. i have no doubt that they nested in the sub yet the show must go on! Tub 2 put out less but larger fruits than tub 1. Snagged a few pics. Tub 2 wet weight came out to 284 grams. Tub 1 was also finally weighed after 40 hours drying! The dry weight came out to 25.14 grams. Tub 2 dried out to 25.60 grams, but i did drop a couple shrooms that i couldnt find, alas a fallen shroom is a fallen shroom. Flush 2 weight weight: 540 grams Flush 2 dry weight:50.74 grams Flush 3 boo yah! Tub 1 has started pinning its 3rd flush, not sure if it will support a full pinset but we will see, it has shrunk a lot. Tub 1 pinning update: Tub 1 is going great, still not a dense pinset but its flush 3 and thats long gone. One side of the tub is pinning a lot more than the other atm. Tub 2 has just started to pin its third flush! Tub 1 is now Coming to its end of the flush, Veils have started forming. A fair few aborts this go as well, it seems my substrate cant hold enough water, its super thin atm. Gnats have now been found in both tubs...ugh the fight goes on. Tub 1: Tub 2: Tub 2 is pinning alright, has larger pins underneath but a decent surface pinset as well! Above photos were taken 8:00pm EST 10-08-2022 The big fella i Cloned from flush 1 is looking mighty fine with some Angel wing myc Just took a first transfer from that plate, should be gooood, only took 1 transfer as i have one plate left. I nicknamed this guy "Golden Dong"Flush 3 Harvest: Finally i am going to harvest this bitch. turned out to be an okay flush with big fruits but a fair amount of aborts due to the amount of water my substrate can now hold. Due to my schedule i was not able to harvest till this point, they were deffs a bit late and dropped so many spores fuck moi. This harvest didnt go exactly to plan to say the least. I usually flip my tub with my hand over the cake to remove it from the tub however this time my cake decided to anchor itself to the tub...i was not aware of this. Half of the cake had adhered to the tub better then the other half so one side stuck a bit more causing the cake to snap right in half. yeah fun. Its not a great photo but it is completely separated. nevertheless i got a few nice specimens out of this. This flush came out to 264 grams wet and dried up to 23.10 grams. In the photo i took on my phone if you zoom in you can see the weight but not on here unfortunately. I forgot to take a photo of Tub 2 but its coming along well. Hopefully will harvest tonight but may have to push it out and harvest tomorrow. there will deffs be spores everywhere if tomorrow. As stated i ended up going home and doing a harvest, a couple of shrooms had dumped a fuck load of spores but most hadnt. It wasnt a very dense flush but i got some nice large fruits! I was in a mad rush for this so my pics are very sparse...ok i took 3 pics im sorry. I tend to alternate between twist and pull and cutting the stump. If the mushroom isnt bound to the substrate very well i will twist but if so i will cut, i find cutting gives you a prettier end product IMO. All ends were cleaned up with my scalpel. Tub 2 wet weight was 223 grams. Was hoping for at least 250 but you get what you get. Im am retiring tub one for this comp as it sustained a lot of damage, its currently sitting in a cupboard in a cold room, if she wants to throw out another flush sure thing but at this point im not looking at it anymore. Tub 2 was floated overnight in water and is now sitting there to see what happens. Pulled out tub 2 from drying yesterday or the day before i cant remember, I lost a lot of weight with this one. Almost as bad as my first harvest ever which was 144g down to 9 grams. This dried down to 18.47 grams. Flush 3 wet weight: 487.00 grams Flush 3 dry weight: 41.57 grams Beyond all odds...a 4th flush emerges from the shadows. 22-08-2022 Both tubs have now started pinning a 4th flush, Tub 1 which was harvested (poorly) first has taken the obvious lead. I am really surprised i had thought flush 3 would be the end. I will retire one tub after flush 4 and see if they maybe wanna take it to the next round. I have a quart jar that will be ready and those are quart tubs so one will be reused soon. I only got pics of one of the tubs the below photo was taken on friday 19-08-2022 so they have grown a fair bit since i just didnt find the tie to take more pics. Hoping for some giants but who knows. More soon peeps Quick pic from yesterday 22-08-2022, doing alright (Tub 1). Hoping for size but not counting on it, the cakes cant hold much water, i might actually mist these tubs till they are done to help a lil with water loss. Hopefully by this time next week both tubs will have been harvested and i will retire from this grow. 24-08-2022 Time: aprox 6:30am AEST Took a quick pic of tub 1 flush 4 this morning before work, coming out tonight. I wish i could have harvested then but i had no time rip. Tub 2 is pinning pretty alright, maybe a lil less than tub 1 but we will see. Deffs retiring this tub after harvesting tonight. Got more grows to start! Ended up harvesting tub 1 Last night after work as promised. (25-08-2022). Nothing impressive but i wasnt expecting much from these tubs. For those who recall, this tubs cake is broken in half. So i removed it one half at a time and sliced away with my scalpel. No sterile precautions were being taken in this time. I quickly cleaned up the bases with my scalpel and dumped her on the scales. Kinda a sad sight, havent had something this small in a while. Now i shed a tear as i say my final goodbyes to my cake, I said a few words and then lay her to rest in my compost bin where she will o on to help other organisms. Farewell. you did good. Tub 2 is looking pretty good, maybe a bit more full than tub 1, deffs more clustery. Im happy that the pins are pretty much even in maturity, id get much better canopies if i had light hitting the top of my grows i swear, Super neglect tek for this 4th flush though, lierally just left them in the guest room and kept forgetting they existed! Pic taken this morning 25-08-2022 Aprox 6:30 AEST More when harvesting my last warrior. Below pic take 26-08-2022 6:30am (AEST) Tub 2 Is ready for harvest and will be done tonight in the PM hours once my house mate leaves. I love harvesting and stuff in my kitchen as i have way more space than my bedroom and my "Lab" which i dont really use anymore is annoying bc i have to go outside to get to it. Pretty excited to finish off this grow, its been super fun and a great learning experience! Since my last entry I've done a fair bit with this grow. I weighed out Flush 4 of tub 1. Unfortunately i forgot to take a photo of the dry weight. It came to 11 grams dry. I also harvested and dried out Tub 2's 4th flush. Whilst removing the cake from the tub the cake broke in half much like tub 1, the cake was fairly soft and definitely spent. Below pics and harvest done 26-08-2022 aprox 4pm I made quick work of harvesting this one with sharp hacks to the stumps of the stems. I also used my scalpel to clean up the end before weighing. Wet weight on this tub came to 141 grams Off to the dehydrator they went whilst i took the time to say my goodbyes to my last soldier. Once again tears were shed. Finally after 30 hours i decided they were ready to be weighed and jar'd. The dry weight came to 12 grams. Flush 4 Wet Weight: 270 grams Flush 4 Dry Weight: 23 grams Grand Total Running Wet Weight: 1739.86 grams Grand Total Running Dry Weight: 161.29 grams This grow off was a blast, I learned heaps and i reckon i made some cool friends! My techniques have evolved so much from the start of this grow and i have all you fierce competition to thank. You all did and are doing fantastic. It was an absolute pleasure hosting this grow and i cant wait to organise the next one. A huge shoutout to the judges for helping me moderate this. Be ready for the next one people. Its going to be WILD. Mush for your time xx -The Mushroom Don Edited by MushieMafia (09/16/22 12:37 AM)

4 pint jars roughly 3/4 filled with brown rice prepared broke boy style. The rice was not weighted when dry, exact volume also not known since my jars aren’t marked. Roughly 1/3 of the water used to hydrate the rice was leftover broth from a batch of cordyceps.
(Pictures of jars will be taken pre inoculation) I’ll be using LC of Mazatat (mazatepec x TAT) that I started with a isolated culture I received. This will be my first time trying this culture. Start date 6-16-22 4 pint jars and Mazatat LC I added roughly 1ml to each jar. I had originally prepped these jars for LC, so trying the two different filters for colonizing on grains. Shaken as best as I can, labeled and dated 6-20 I have some growth in all four pints. Of course some are going faster than the others. 6-22 Ranging from about 30-75% colonized. breaking them up for the first time All it took to break up the mycelium was some firm tapping against a towel I held in my opposite hand. The uncolonized rice wanted to stick together, but I made sure any clumps I couldn’t break were fully surrounded by the colonized rice. After the break and shake. 6-24 Two jars recovered very quickly and are looking near done, two jars not so much. Biggest difference is the two jars that aren’t recovering much are fitted with syringe filters instead of the cloth filter disks. Im assuming they’re not getting enough oxygen, or the ports got plugged during the shake. Also, I’m afraid I have some bacteria contamination in them, or it’s from being in a cabinet that might get a bit warmer than I thought. I’m going to spawn them out anyway, see what they do. If it’s not mold I’m not too worried lol. 6-27 update The ones with the syringe filters recovered and are colonizing, just much slower. They’re almost done either way. The other two are completely colonized and started to consolidate the rice. By the way it looks, there’s some bacterial issue or just from the higher temp that it’s been lately. I’m going to test my LCs again, streak them out and hope to spread out any contamination that may be growing along with the mycelium 7-16 late posts, spawned to bulk on 7-14 On 7-13, I pasteurized my substrate. I used the bucket tek, 5gal bucket and a large styrofoam box. I started with a brick of eco earth coco coir and 8 cups of vermiculite, and dumped 5qts of boiling water into it. Closed up the bucket and put the lid on the box. The next day (7-14) I decided to keep the two jars with syringe filters in one box, and the two with the filter disks in their own box. After scrubbing my forearms and putting on some gloves, I squeezed the CV mix to field capacity and measured out 2.5qts for each box. The jars of spawn aren’t filled all the way, so it’s going to be closer to a 3:1 mix ratio. Breaking up the spawn, the two with the filter disks seemed firmer and drier. I suspected bacteria issues in them, but they smelled fine and no mold. The ones with the syringe filters that took longer to colonize broke up easier, and had more moisture in the rice. I broke them up and mixed with 2qts of substrate in their respective boxes. I used .5 or a bit more substrate to cover the spawn mix, only came out to be about 1/4in of covering/casing. I also mixed up a single pint of Koh Samui spawn I had going the same time 😝. I put it into a 3qt Tupperware, I was going to do the zip lock bag tek but didn’t find 2.5gal bags, and 1gal just didn’t cut it. Oh, these are unmodified 6qt shoeboxes. Doing the neglect tek, and I’m keeping the lid on them till the surface is mostly colonized before cracking the lids for fruiting conditions. Of course I realize now that I didn’t bother to note or lable batch A or B for the jars 😅. But here they are 48hrs after S2B Clearly one set is colonizing faster than the other, just not sure which is which now 🤪 7-19 quick update Colonization of the bulk is coming along nicely. One box has roughly 1/3 coverage on the surface, so I unlatched the lid to stare fruiting conditions. But now I’m thinking I should of just patched over the surface stuff with more CV while the rest got colonized. Well I won’t be able to get to it till tomorrow night so what ever The other one 7-25 first pins! 7-27 48hrs later The other shoebox has a couple pins that I can see starting to form, so about 2-3 days behind. 7-28 24hrs later Oops, I really dropped the ball on the updates. Box 1 7-30 first flush 8-6 second flush 8-19 third and final flush Box 2 8-2 First flush 8-12 second flush 8-23 third flush The final combined dried weight (of what I got to weigh after drying, many were eaten fresh 🤪) 126g Edited by Seamonkey84 (09/15/22 09:08 PM)

CULTURE
Nepal Chitwan with the following history: - cloned from a shoebox flush - notes say it was my 3rd clone ever taken, might be my first "successful" one - transferred 3 times on agar, last transfer threw off some plate pins - plate pin transferred 2 times on agar - I think this is technically a clone of a clone at this point, but this culture has had some good flushes so Ive been mindful to take only spore prints from this line/lineage/generation(?) - donor plates received their transfers 21 May 2022 Agar recipe for donor plates used in this grow: - 400ml leftover oat grain boil water from a previous prep - 1g LME - 8g agar (telephone brand) - 6 drops of green food dye GRAIN 4 pint jars of millet will be used for this grow. Prep based on Judge Crack's no prep tek. Some details on my process: - jars have plastic lids with polyfill - 2/3 cup millet ea (~ 102g), 1/3 cup water - lids backed off ~ 1/4 turn, covered in foil - loaded in Instapot with 1.5 liters of water, splash of vinager - 20 min vent - 4 hour PC run in an Instapot, "Keep Warm" setting off - natural release (~ 1.5 hours) - tighten lids, shake jars to break up millet - tends to clump at bottom After sitting for 3 days, moisture all gone and looking pretty good (to me): 16 Jun 2022 Set up the SAB, wiped down plates and jars with iso and inoculated my contenders! Shook a bit to get the agar settled nicely into the grains, without face-planting them onto the side of the jar this time! Now the wait... 19 Jun 2022 One jar has contaminated, whispy white mold of some sort developing at the top and near the top of the grains in 3 places. Contam vectors Im leaning toward right now: - culture - keep an eye on the other jar that has the other half of this culture - polyfill filter - pulling on it (now that its confirmed contamed), has a little play, some resistance, but it wouldn't be hard to yank it right out. hopefully this is the cause and the other lids are not in the same state - bad SAB session - keeping an eye out for all jars contaminating similarly the next few days - bad grain sterilization run - same as above, I have 2 unused jars from this sterilization run, they look fine right now but added notes to that batch about this contam Something Im definitely not consistent with is checking the state of the polyfill before sterilizing grains, I thought I did on that run but this lid shouldn't have passed, do better in the future. Here's a jar with the most visible growth (no contams yet, but shares the same culture as the contam'd jar), jumping off agar well: Healthy jars: 3 20 Jun 2022 2 more jars contaminated similarly, all have a few spots of the same looking growth. Polyfill on these jars is good and tight. Narrowed down to these vectors: - cultures - bad SAB session - bad grain sterilization run I decided to inoculate the 2 unused sterilized grain jars with 2 different cultures, see how these do just to narrow down further (atl#7 and a different chitwan culture, not part of the competition). Healthy jars: 1 21 Jun 2022 The 1 remaining healthy looking jar that's part of this competition is still looking good. One of the non-competition jars inoculated yesterday (atl#7) has a contam. How do sterilization runs in a PC go bad? Probably the least likely scenario of the bunch. My contam rates the past month or so have increased dramatically, Ive seen: - 2nd flushes going green in a big way - Ive had small outbreaks before but these started developing/growing very quickly - lots of jars contaminating (> 50%) - I recently switched back to millet because of these issues with oats - a recent first flush threw some good fruits in half the FC but the other half bloomed a nice sized white patch that Im sure wouldve turned green if I let it go Interestingly, Im not seeing the same increase of contams with my agar work, there have been a few, but nothing on the order that Im seeing with grain and bulk. It's summer weather here and temps are higher now. Ive heard folks mentioning they take the summer months off, but before I throw in the towel for the season figure Ill try a few things: - reduced the # of lights installed on my shelves that hold jars, FCs, plates - temps were getting ~ 80F - clean down the grow room well - its only had light cleaning here/there over the winter - do SAB work elsewhere (usually done in the same room) - think Ill try the basement - reduce the # of projects until I get back to a steady state with healthy spawn - the nat plates are going to have to hold tight ![]() 23 Jun 2022 My one remaining jar still looking ok. Gave it a shake today. 26 Jun 2022 Remaining jar bounced back nicely. I'm still working through the increase in contam issues Ive been having lately, and going to focus on my sterile process during inoculations of jars (2/3 test jars contam'd since last report). This feels like the best place to start after the deep clean, and something Ive probably been a bit too comfortable with (and likely getting lazy). I noticed that Ive been taking single, larger agar wedges (~ 1/2 plate) from the donor plates the last month or so, which introduce more opportunity for poor scalpel placement (hands and/or non-sterilized portion of the handle over the plate), also the larger wedges get a bit clumsy to manage while transfering to the jar. 5 new test jars noc'd up today with ~ 1/4 wedges, transfers felt smooth. I didn't expect my competition grow log to dominated by documenting contam issues, but here we are. Embracing the noob status. Healthy jars: 1 03 Jul 2022 My one remaining pint jar has colonized and is ready to send to bulk. Its not the best looking spawn having uncolonized grains pressed against the glass but we're pushing forward. Here's a few shots: Coir prepped with bucket tek: - 800g coir from Coca Bliss block tossed in 5 gallon bucket - broken up into smaller pieces as water boils - 3600ml boiling water dumped on top of coir - slap lid on - after resting for 1 hour, mix - rest for 24 hours - add 3 qts of vermiculite, mix I have (2) 5 gallon buckets of coir going: one with verm to use for substrate, one without verm for top coats. For a fruiting chamber Im using a 1 gallon glass jar with a glass lid. These give me great visibility of surface conditions without opening up a lid and I still get a kick watching the myc colonize the sub. First step is checking field capacity on the CV. It generally takes me a few weeks to use up what I prep, sometimes it needs another mix before using, maybe some additional water. For this project I measure out 1.5 qts of CV and dump it into my 1 gallon jar, on top of that goes the contents of the 1 pint spawn jar after a good shake. Then mix well, ensuring I get around the bottom edge real good, no dead spots with just CV. This next step seems to have helped more than anything reducing side-pins, something I started doing with shoeboxes before I switched away from them. I go around the edges and tamp down the sub fairly firmly with the tips of my fingers, kinda like so: After that I level off the sub and tamp down the rest, not quite as vigorously as the edges. Then a 1/2 qt of coir (also at field capacity) to top coat it, also tamped down a bit for a final spawn/sub ratio of 1:4 and a depth of 2.75 inches. The final steps are cleaning up the inside walls of the jar, a healthy mist (a carryover from SFF Shoebox Tek) and on the shelf it goes. 08 Jul 2022 Quick status update: myc just starting to break through the top of the sub in a few places. Ill grab some pics on the next update. 19 Jul 2022 Ive out, my solo bulk grow has bloomed a variety of contams. It felt inevitable due to very slow colonization of the substrate surface which never got past 10-20%. A few days ago a dull grey patch showed up and this morning there are dense patches of bright white growth: The sides are showing green growth: My summertime contams continue to plague me but on the positive side I do have a few promising grows in flight. Good luck to the rest of the folks! Edited by offworld (07/19/22 07:46 PM)

6-14-22 PREP WORK Grain Being Used: Wheat Dry Weight Of Grain: 600g (Note on dry weight: I do not know if this will be too much for my pint jars, after I cook the wheat and fill the jars if there is any extra I will dehydrate, weigh the left over and subtract from my base estimate of 600g) Later that night…. I cooked my wheat till the center was not white, took about an hour or so I didn’t really pay attention to the timing there, whoops! Air dried on a towel and loaded in jars It turned out just a bit too much than I prefer but I didn’t want to dry any to weigh it out again…Ran a little late will PC tomorrow. ————————————————————— 6-15-2022 My 4 pint jars of wheat did not fit in my 6qt bobble top pc so I had to pc them in this thriftstore find. A little harder to dial in so the steam doesn’t come out too fast but still works. Went 2 hours just to be on the safer side. ———————————————————————- 6-16-2022 So it begins! I dropped my cultures to my pint jars. My hg xl’s grew out a little bigger than I wanted so I did not do a tiger drop as i planned to do after all. I cut some nice looking spots from the plates, i’d say about 1/4 of each plate to each pint jar. Here are my plates I nocced from: This is my first clone culture from a good TREASURE COAST grow I did a couple months ago. Here is a photo of a second flush from the same culture I’m using for this grow: (308 for scale) Not a canopy but I chose this clone because they grow nice and tall with decent clusters, it’s the best option I have right meow Here are the pint jars: You can see parts of the green agar in the three jars on the right, the jar on the left tho…. as I tried to shake the agar piece down into the grains it go stuck to the lid!!!! ![]() —————————————————— 6-22-22 Going to go ahead and shake these tomorrow night. Going a little slower than I thought but they look good so far (except the upside down one I cant see shit )————————————————————— 6-28-2 I shook these on 6-23-22. Recovery looks good. I really don’t like how full they are, makes it really annoying to mix the myc around inside the jars. Shaked em up right after photo, possibly spawn this weekend! —————————————————————- 7-10-22 Finally spawned my jars last night. They were probably ready earlier in the week but I got busy and finally made time last night. Jars all looked good and smelled great, no signs of metabolites or mold. I prepped my coir the “proper” way for the first time (usually I just add water to coir and then add verm till it’s “field capacity”, whatever that means ) I used a 650g brick of coir, 2 quarts of verm, ran out of medium so some of it is fine, and poured 3 quarts of boiling water all in a bucket with lid. I used a 1:3 ratio on both shooboxes…used the p9 compression with a 1 quart top layer, these didn’t come with proper lids so I have some sterlite lids on, I also gave the top later a nice initial misting a la sff tek. PS: this is by far the most effort I’ve ever put into a grow, I’m curious to see if it actually pays off or if my lazy ways have been an ok choice…Time will tell! ————————————————————— 7-17-22 Not much of an update but wanted to update at least 1nce per week Colonizing is going well, this is usually where I struggle with adjusting fae I will leave this loose lids on but I moved the boxes from their cubby hole in the closet to where they get a slight increase in airflow around the box. Hard to see but there is tiny tiny droplets all over the myc ————————————————————- 7-22-22 My boxes both have the burnt marshmallow yellow spots goin on, I think they may need some more fae, switching to a dub tub today with small gaps ————————————————————— 7-25-22 First pin popped up….also looks like some bacteria maybe…? looks like some blobs haha Lots of yellowing spots and fuzziness…hoping the pins pop up thru the mess ————————————————————————- 7-29-22 Ok Shooboxes looking a little more promising, more pins, pins mixing with blobs like a good culture should do siamese shroom blobs Other shoobox falling behind, tons of surface bruising. from what? I do not know ———————————————————————— 8-2-22 First shoobox first flush harvest 398 Grams wet single heaviest 28g Not sure why the caps all look retarded, never had that happen before the sub took a beating from the harvest, going to fill in the pits with verm ![]() —————————————————————— 8-3-22 picked first one done from shoobox 2 30g wet this box be ready to harvest by the weekend i think ————————————————————————- 8-3-22 Dry weight of first flush tub 1 and the dry weight of the first mature fruit from tub 2 first flush: just over 40 grams ———————————————————————————- 8-4-22 second shoobox first flush if you add the first pre mature fruit I picked this box almost came to about 400g fresh not too shabby eh? ————————————————————————— 8-6-22 dry weight shoobox 2 : 37g both combine shooboxes dry weight 77g i see a couple pins coming in for flush 2 —————————————————————— 8-12-22 Second flush bin 1 wet weight 182g ——————————————————————————— 8-15-22 Second tub second flush : 182 wet weight ———————————————————————————- 8-30-2022 third flush ![]() ————————————————————— 9-2-22 3rd flush was a huge surprise! never knew the 3rd flush I may have gotten the flushes mixed up thought last one was 3rd. too tired to go back and check sorrycant get dry weight until I come back from labor day weekend vacation dont wait up for me, i’m guessing it will be about 20g dry Also accidentally deleted my last flush dry weight, i think it was also 20 but i don’t have the pic so don’t count it if it’s against the rules. whoops thanks Edited by san pedro guy (09/02/22 04:57 PM)

APE: P. Cubensis
Dry weight: 770g WBS I left the sunflower seeds in there. I'm using Penningtons brand wild bird feed. I grab it from Walmart on the way home from work. I like this brand a lot. There is very little bs and it is usually pretty clean. I still rinse it really well before the soak. Bulk sub will be coco coir/verm 80/20 Purple latch shoebox gang fo life! x2 of those. Occasionally I need to really increase fae. I do it like this I'll be using 1 quart ball mason jars x 2 with the ball no-leak grey lids unmodified. I'm late to the party but I just weighed and am soaking my wbs and I should be good to go by Wednesday 6/22 to inoculate. I took 3 transfers from my best looking ape t1 plates Thurs 6/16. Hoping for the best. 6/21 I soaked my wbs for 24 hrs then strained and rinsed before fooman soaking for 5 minutes to hydrate just a little further and to dry the grain. After the soak I strained for about 5 minutes and layed the wbs out on paper towel lined cookie sheets. After about 20 minutes I loaded the jars and PCed. I use an instant pot so I PCed for 3.5 hrs after I vented 10 minutes. 6/22 Finally joined the party! These are my ape plates I'm using. I transfered a rice size piece of mycelium from both plates to clean agar before tiger dropping one plate per jar. Now we wait! No-mod lids usually take a little longer. No worries though I have to admit I'm a little jealous of all you LC users in this competition. I never got into it because I usually just grow a couple shoeboxes per culture then start something new. I'm thinking I need a new skill now though. I knew it colonized fast but damn!! I didn't know it hit warp speeds! 6/29 Shook the jars at around 20% colonization Forgot to take pics before. 7/11 Here is where we are today. 2 sides of the same jar The fallen warrior I'm thinking yeast got in there, most likely from my dirty something or other. No worries though cuz I'm still gonna win with only 1 jar! ![]() 7/16 I'm gonna spawn this jar later today or possibly tomorrow depending on if it finishes or not. This jar only has one concerning area. It is just kinda spikey in a couple areas and the mycelium is pretty thick in that area that's almost finished up. I weighed out 325g of coir, added 1qt verm and boiled 2 quarts of water then dumped it in the bucket and put the lid on snapped shut. I got my coir from a hydro store so after it is done I'll throw it in quart jars to have a proper pasteurization in my instant pot. All you do is decide how much time, hit warm and walk away. It works the same with the PC cycle. Too easy! 7/18 S2B today, two shoeboxes. I used 420ml of wbs per shoebox and 3qts c/v per box as well. Here is my process. I wash my arms and hands before I put on a clean long sleeve shirt, hat, mask, gloves then I alcohol the gloves before starting. Might be over kill. No worries though imo it is good sterile technique. 1)First I use a football to break and shake the mycelium. 2)I cut black yard bags a little bigger than shoebox size so the bag hangs over the edges. 3)Then I add the yard bags to my shoebox and add 2 quarts c/v and then I add the wbs, put the lid on and give it a good shake. 4)Once it's mixed I pat everything down nice and tight. 5)Then I add .5 - 1qt top layer and press that down nice and even. 6)After that I cut the bag near sub level. 7)I spray the surface with a fine mist for 20 seconds keeping the sprayer moving at all times. 8)Label that bitch with all pertinent info. 9)finally I place it in the closet on 12/12 light with my agar cups and other tubs. I only had one remaining jar but it had exactly 840ml of wbs so I split it between two shoeboxes. ![]() ![]() 1:6 ratio Other box Will update with more pictures when I notice some mycelium. 7/26 And a little weed smoking recipe for you guys. I work in a dispensary so trust me when I tell you these things are fucking awesome. If you like to get really high. My homemade kaviar joints! I mix 1 joints worth of cannabis ground finely with about 2-3 grains of rice worth of slightly warmed cannabis oil of your choice then mix that around until you are happy next add your kief. Just add enough to cover your cannabis and oil mixture then mix that around until it resembles dry cannabis again just slightly stickier. I use the pointy end on a dab tool to do all the mixing. Also fyi I mix this in some plastic that can go in the trash or reused for this purpose. I use a empty 5 pack preroll package. It was just handy plastic I had around. I like the 1.25 or 1/2g cones. Load about a half inch of dry cannabis in the cone and pack that down then load the wetter product packing a little at a time. These babies pack a punch coming in somewhere around the 35-40%thc range. Toke it carefully! You can score a glass crutch at your local glass pipe/vape store ![]() ![]() 8/8 update Pins coming through finally! Very stoked! 8/12 They are coming on in! On the bottom pic right around the middle there is a little spotty blue one. I'm hoping for starry night ape! 8/22 I was just elected mayor...of abortville. No congrats necessary. Both tubs too! Hoping for a better second flush. I concede! I was hoping for a good second flush but it isn't happening. Until next time party people! Edited by Vibetyme (09/04/22 06:04 PM)

Many grains expand 2x in size, so usually about half your final volume when dry. Hydrate first, fill jars, then stick in PC. It’s always better to make a little extra than to end up with not enough.

Thanks Monkey, sometimes they expand a little more than double and I like my space at the top of the jar, Hopefully nailed it but probably went a little over, i can still weigh the excess and get a accurate weight…
Hey shout out to Mushie!!! Great idea and thank you for putting this together for us, I’m excited to get this thing rolling!

Time for the first update, I was out of town starting the 17th, and all of last week was my first flush from my first grow, all 7 shoeboxes turned out well from MSS! So feeling good with that, and have 7 more shoeboxes starting to pin right now while I get my second flushes, glad to have won the lottery a bit haha. Alright, time for the grow log. Grain Used: Rye Berries Dry Weight of Grain: Approximately 250 g each jar Size of Jars: 2 Quart Jars Start Date: 06/16/22 Bulk Substrate: Planning to be coco coir and verm, two shoeboxes one for each jar. Spawn Ratio: 1:1 with an extra quart-ish of sub on top. What I am Growing: APEs from swab to agar. 06-16-22: Before I had even planned to participate in the event I had procured a couple APE swabs and put them to my first agar dishes, being Pasty plates. I used 5 g of agar-agar and 5 g of LME, with a squirt of blue food coloring and did everything else standard. I forgot to write down the date for inoculation, but I believe it was 05/29. It took almost a week for my first plate to show germination, and then a few more days to see two more, and then the other five never showed growth. Those three plates, though, showed a ton of thick mycelium and no sign of contamination. My plan was then to make transfers from the good plates to the old plates that were re-PC'd. I decided to hold on to the donors because why not, and they continued to chow down on the agar, and since the transfers were starting to look good then the donors became what I used here! Alright enough of that explanation, I prepped 3 grain jars, 1 for each agar plate, and decided on two of them to be my noob grow. To avoid messing with it too much I decided on just tiger dropping them, and so I prepared my SAB as I have been doing (with no contamination in any of the 25 jars I've made and 19 agar plates). I wash my counter with soapy water and IPA, then throw a towel on and wet it with a rack on top that has been wiped with IPA. Taking the agar and jars out I give them a quick wipe with alcohol, place them on the rack, clean my SAB with soapy water and IPA, and place that on top. Then I shower and don new clothes, gloves, and a mask, and then sanitize myself and go in carefully. 06-22-22: These jars are colonizing nice and quick, as to be expected, but definitely a nice surprise considering I have only worked with MSS at this point. Here they are in all their glory, still looking clean. Looking forward to when these are ready to be spawned, APEs just seem so fun to work with! 06-25-22: Nothing crazy going on, simply colonizing, gave them a quick shake so once they start to recover I will update this again. 06-27-22: Again, nothing crazy just recovering from the shake, looking good I'd like to think. Mycelium is a bit thick, but that was the case when colonizing on agar as well so I am not shocked. The other jar from that day was shaken a few days before and it is approaching full colonization so I look forward to spawning these in the next week or so. 06-29-2022: The grains have been colonizing quickly, but I have run into this "problem" with most of my jars where it will get like 98% colonized but then some grains on the very top struggle to colonize, so I give another shake and then once they recover they will be 100%. From what I've read it could just be dry grains, so I will have to think about how to rectify that. But I saw that it was approaching so I decided to catch it early and shake again and they are recovering as we speak! Man agar really does speed up the process, I am enjoying this endeavor! 07-01-2022: Quick update, seems like they are coming close to spawning. The jar on the left looks bacterial to me, got pressed grains and they are a little wet. Jar on the right, maybe got a tiny bit of it as well but hardly at all. I think I will rock them both, because I gotta learn what it is like somehow! I am not too surprised, they were donor plates, but I have another donor plate I spawned that does not look bacterial at all so that is pretty nice. I also have another 5 jars ready to be spawned so I am thinking of whipping up a batch of CV and spawning tonight. The APEs will probably be going into shoeboxes to be safe, but I think Faht's ziplocks seem really interesting so I may do a few of those with the other jars. 07-02-2022: So I have spawned the two jars! Just into a couple shoeboxes. Definitely a little questionable spawn, especially that one jar, but I figure since my grows are still small enough I can afford it and just learn to see what happens. I haven't had any of the 14 tubs from my first grow contaminate, so I just want to see what that looks like! So I spawned these two tubs, and I did another 4 for jars that were ready and did make a couple Ziplocs that I wanted to try it for space reasons, and just see how they do. Seems likely I will get mushrooms from all of them, but maybe these tubs are not meant to be, we shall see. 07-05-2022: Figure I'd give an update, no pictures right now until I see some full coverage, but they are colonizing away! My other 4 shoeboxes have taken off the quickest, but these two noob grow specific shoeboxes are moving along in their own right. One in particular is taking off ahead, I believe it was the less bacterial jar (though I don't think either were particularly nauseating), but we will see what happens in the next week or so! 07-07-2022: Here we are nearly 6 days post spawn, the tub on the left is definitely more colonized, and has myc growth similar to my previous grows where it is growing up, whereas the tub on the right is sticking closer to the surface. This makes me think that maybe FAE isn't a factor but more genetics? Not too sure. Curious who else is checking these posts all the time to see who's still posting updates haha, but I am enjoying the progress on everyone's grows! 07-13-2022: Alright, it has almost been a week since I last updated, didn't really know when to do another one. Was thinking maybe when I see some pins, which should be soon, but these APEs are a little slow. Starting to see some knots, not a ton, as well as the tub on the right is just very tomentose looking, if I am thinking correctly haha. Tub on the left is still more similar to my other grows, not as intense in the growth but still reminiscent, and those knots are looking a little fat so should see some babies soon! In other news, the other tubs and Ziplocs that I spawned those same days are either pinning or knotting hella, so looks like it should be a bountiful few weeks for myself. 07-18-2022: Update time, getting some pins finally! A bit slower than all my other grows, but not by too much. Getting some weird results, tub on the right has some brown tops, so looking like some APE-R? But tub on the left looks like it is about to blob, same with another tub that I have, so I am confused haha. Maybe one swab reverted and the other didn't, that's my best guess, but I am hyped nonetheless to see some progress! 07-22-2022: Been a few days, time for an update! Guess there is some good news and some bad news. Good news is the tub that isn't APE is doing alright, looking really weird that the pins only took a few patches to grow in, so there is some cute clusters but not much of a pinset. Bad news is the other APE tub just seems to be contammed? The corners are looking a little rough, and the pinning isn't too intense. I have one other tub that was spawned at the same time that looks good and is tossing some blobs, but they are incredibly slow growing, not sure how long to expect these to grow. I will be honest, this was my first grow with agar, and these were the donor plates I took transfers from, and the jars were kind of bacterial, but I said screw it. Wasn't a waste at the very least, I wanted to see how it would work out. Right now, I have two more APE tubs that I spawned at a higher ratio of substrate to spawn that should be better and a larger top layer, so I am hoping that that can sustain the mushrooms a little better. My other projects right now are a couple of fahtloc's that are alright, definitely were a little wet but they are pinning like crazy, just going to be small fruits I think. And then I have another 3 tubs of leucistic golden teachers colonizing so it is an exciting time! 08-04-2022: Better late than never. Just had a bunch of stuff going on, and these tubs really weren't that interesting. The one on the left above has done nothing, so it is getting tossed, though I still got some shrooms from the other tub. The three photos below are from different days over time, but it shows some of the fruits they have produced. The extra tub is another spawned on the same day but it actually produced some APE, which is hella awesome. I have 6 other tubs that are all either finishing their first flush or pushing them out, but I am not starting any other projects for a bit. Probably going to move sooner rather than later, so it is just smart to not bite off some grows that will take awhile. This has been a really fun ride though. Edited by Crabaniac (08/04/22 07:26 PM)
