Question about my 6qt dubtub
    #27819651 - 06/14/22 05:05 PM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Okay so my tub is good, pins have grown into small shrooms
It is unmodified

Only problem is I noticed some fuzzy feet on some of them and that some of the mushroom tops kind of have a decay spot on them like a rot spot

If I just start to fan them will that go away? Will it heal and grow? I haven’t fanned it at all ever except for the first time today from noticing the rot spots on some of them and the fuzzy feet

Other than that the tubs great  lmk

Wouldn’t worry about the fuzzy feet.

Can you post a pic so we can try to diagnose the caps?

Well, the fuzzy feet aren't bad, maybe slide the top tub diagonal a tiny tiny bit to add some FAE if you want... idk about the cap, but maybe a drop of water pooled on it... I've seen caps look like they're rotting from drops of water that popped there for too long.. but that's just a guess.. I'd wait for another opinion.

just be sure not to over correct... personally I'd just crack the tubs.. you're looking for more passive air exchange rather than fanning... and if you mist or open the tub and drops of condensation fall on the caps, check back 15 min later and check for pooling water.. if you see large drops on the caps dab them with a paper towel.

If your substrate moisture is dialed in you should be able to be hands off through the first flush.. if you don't have to mist and you don't open the tub and knock condensation off the lid, you'll easily avoid pooling water on the caps

And How would I go about rehydrating the substrate for second flushes? Or don’t?

Also there is no holes in any of my tubs so would co2 still pool in the tub? I could just fan it once or twice a day to get the co2 out? Could that be what’s causing the fuzzy feet and rot? I’m def not misting it anymore because it has plenty of water

I do unmodded tubs as well, and don't fan.. I usually start with single tubs, not dubbed.. I keep the lid closed until pinning and then crack the lid on one side... once the fruits hit the lid, I'll sometimes dubtub just until they mature, or I'll put a later of plastic wrap with a few tiny holes poked in it covering  the top with enough slack that the mushrooms can push it up as they grow...

The tiny holes or cracked lid provide enough passive air exchange to let the co2 out... with dub tubs I'd just find a way to leave them cracked a tiny bit... either put something on one side like a paperclip to hold up the top tub, or just leave the top tub sitting slightly diagonal so it has small holes in the corners

To rehydrate, I just mist heavily for a couple days if needed... I was bottom watering,  but decided misting was easier and provides enough hydration

I’ve been trying a fahtlock as a lid. I don’t feel like the arbitrary gaps on the standard lids are consistent enough. They are too pliable and you can’t really control the fae gaps

This is my tester…mainly did this because these shoo boxes I bought at goodwill didn’t come with lids lol

That was pretty much exactly what I was trying to explain with the plastic wrap. The only difference is that I add it after while the first flush is coming in and leave extra slack so the fruits can push the plastic up.

Just goes to show that once you understand the fundamentals of the environment we're trying to create, it becomes pretty easy to find a way to make it happen even when your new tubs from goodwill didn't come with lids  you don't need fancy equipment like a lot of noobs assume, you just need a container to hold in moisture and allow passive air exchange.

:whathesaid: exactly!

I like these shoeboxes better tho because unlike the sterilite ones these have a flat bottom…no little troughs around the bottom…

also second that on the second flush heavy misting…dunk never worked well for me

Yeah, I dunked my first tub and it just stalled out the 2nd flush pins that were starting. You have a lot more control of moisture levels with misting

That's cool! Flat bottoms would be nice. Definitely worth making improvised lids.. and I honestly think yours will work a lot better for distributing the FAE evenly.
