Started white and a day later yellowish...?

So just getting back into mycology, I put some LC to agar and grain. A day ago it was showing on the agar thin and white and the grain had a small white growth showing. Today it was consistent in color throughout with this yellow tint. Other cultures I did the same day look beautiful. Hoping it's just metabolite excretion. Z Strain BTW Thanks so much!

Thats what it looks like today. I just found it odd it was all looking good, now its all the same color. And grew very fast! I did a few other strains I got at the same place that are looking good. After I took the pic I looked through a light and it isnt nearly as dark. The cans in the background didn't help.

Can you explain what you mean by toast. I mean I get what your saying but i moved both the bag and plate someplace 10Β° cooler and in the last day the yellow on the plate has lessened and new growth looks better. Same with the bag. Now so toasted that if the bag doesn't recover but i can isolate a clean piece off the agar. Worth transferring to a new plate and seeing if i can get a clean sample? Waiting to hear from the the vendor I got the samples and bags from.π€ Thanks in advance! Trying to learn, so any knowledge and or insight is very welcome...

I assume it was a play on words. In the literal sense: yeast is used to make leavened bread, which can be sliced up and turned into toast. Conversely, toast is a colloquialism for spoiled, finished, dead, etc. As such, your LC, which is contaminated with yeasts, is βtoast.β

Cool, so yeah I get what it means when something is toasted. The bag I'm not so concerned with. But the agar plate is looking better, meaning no additional yellow on top of white mycelium and more clean looking growth. What I'm trying to figure is if it is so toasted it's not even worth trying to take a clean agar -> agar transfer and if it's clean -> LC and have fresh LC? Thank you

If thereβs some healthy looking growth on agar, Iβd say transfer a piece to a new plate and see how it goes. (However, Iβm not an expert, so more knowledgeable people may have better insight for you.)
