PE6 help
    #27813741 - 06/10/22 06:10 PM (2 years, 7 months ago)

So I posted last week about my first run of this PE6…. The mycelium looked very thin and whispy and it appeared to be pinning after only a couple weeks of spawning(birthday 5/26) not really sure what to do at this point any and all help would be appreciated…

Here’s pics of the colonization

And here’s surface conditions

What was your spawn to sub ratio?

Looks like a combination of things.  Do you have pics of the jars before you birthed them?  And the surface layer seems to have dried up and blended in with the rest of the substrate.  From the side view, we should see a definite sectioning of the colonized sub and the top layer.  I'll go see if I can upload a pic of my tub that was DOB: 5/30 and you can compare the visual differences.

Aside from that, I think there are many clues we can discover from pictures of the colonizing jars.  If we gather all the clues, we will solve the mystery!  I see you have other tubs... are they doing just fine?  Or all with the same problem?

The bottom pic is the master…. And the thing I don’t understand is that my substrate is nowhere near 100% colonized that’s why I don’t understand why it’s fruiting rn

Your sub certainly looks fully colonized to me. Yes, it isn't a thick cover of bright white myc but the culture itself just seems to be producing thin wispy myc even in spawn jars. The thin wispy myc does seem to be all over the tub though.

The biggest issue I see is that your block looks dry like Don said.

Your spawn looks picture perfect, friend! Great job. Your surface conditions seem to be questionable.

Yes I know it’s dry but that’s only due to the fact that I had planned on adding another thicker moister casing layer once i was assured I had 100% colonization
