Need A Different Set of Eyes.

It's been 8 days in the fruiting chamber. RH is a steady 95% with temps between 70 during the day, 68 at night with good FAE and regular misting. I do have a question though. Or at least the need for another perspective from a different set of eyes because my eyesight isn't really the best. I noticed what seems to me as some discoloration. Appears a very light blue/green to me but when I shine my little flash light on it, it's not visible (I do have a blue light). Still patiently waiting for pins to appear as well. So, what do you guys think? Or, is it just me being paranoid? I've searched for all sorts of pics on here and other sites. Most are obvious contamination while others are just bruising. (Pics show the extent of my photography skills and the budget in which I'm working with)

This is a fruiting block from an all-in-one grow bag I inoculated 34 days ago. Should I have dunked it before placing it in the FC? Wasn't aware of dunking until 2nd flush.

Hard to tell but they look pretty dry and not really like mycelium.
If they are turning a lightish blue then that is usually bruising from drying out.
If they turn green then they’re moldy and won’t give you fruit.
Also whatever they are sittin on is too big, you want them to be as small as possible so te moisture from the perlite is unimpeded.

Yea the color seems more of a blue tint. I know it's tough to tell from the pics. Low lighting and my phone's camera isn't the best. And it's just a ziplock bag under it. I'll cut it to where it's just at the edge of the block. Hydrometer reads 95%, but the block itself may be dry like you mentioned. I'll keep up the misting. Thanks for the feedback.

You were right san pedro guy. I misted the hell out of it 3 times in the span of over an hour and after each time, within 20mins or so the block soaked all the water up. It seems to be hydrated now, but still misting it heavily until pins pop up.
For future reference because I have one more all-in-one bag that is 2weeks away from putting into fruiting conditions: Is it best to dunk the fruiting block before putting in the FC? Even though it had the grains and substrate in the bag already?

Hey awesome! You should not need to mist so often. your fc may have too many holes.
Proper Surface Conditions this thread will teach and show you how the surface should look.
unfortunately I have no experience with the kits or pre made bags. If you want something easy with proven results you can search for PF tek, its simple, cheap and effective.
If you’re planning on diving in full commitment, then go straight to learning to make agar
hope you get something out of this one, good luck!!

I really do appreciate it. The grow bags were a quick impulse buy. I do however have a few agar dishes now from transfers I did a little over a week ago. Before it's over I'll have a good supply with life long ability to grow more. Going to go for an outside bed when temps cool off.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Welp...the discoloration turned out to be contamination. There was no smell other than the normal dirt, garden soil type smell too so thats why I wasn't sure. Oh well...not giving up. I do have another fruiting block colonizing so hopefully it doesn't end up contaminated as well. I have some agar dishes going and some LC that looks good. Inoculated my own grain that I prepared myself so wish me luck on that. Took the FC I had this in, drained peroxide over the perlite and sprayed FC down with it too; just letting it sit for now.
Here's some pics of the beast.

Wait a minute...it's not green though now. It's a deep blue...is this good? Some very small pins are on too.

doesn’t look to good to me noob eyes may want to try and fruit it it in the bag….
good luck with he agar, theres an agar thread that you can post your plates for tips and tricks until you got it on your own…sometimes hard to tell good myc from mold/bacteria when starting out.
good luck!

You know, that may be a wise choice.
As far as the agar goes, I will surely start taking pics of it too and posting to the thread you mentioned. Had mostly fluffy stuff on the last dishes, took a transfer from each and got some pretty aggressive ryzo growth in one. So would be beneficial to get some pointers on some good sections to take for next transfer and soon...transfer to agar slant from maybe a tissue culture in the future.

It’s an older thread, but I found this one very helpful for learning to transfer and clean up agar: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18430998

Oh wow...thanks. That is going to come in very handy to ensure I get a strong sample before going into an agar slant.

Well guys...Im excited to say...and yes, perhaps more excited than I should be, but considering the many iffy moments throughout this colonies progress, I am excited.
I see pins on top...some starters here and there. My heart seems full...as I stand here and stare. And I think to myself...what a wonderful world
Heres a pic a the little mush-babies (What an adorable sight).

I have a question. Or more like a question towards my observation. Temps in my FC ranged from 68 to 70 degrees. However, over the past several days temps outside have been in the high 90s and even reached 101. With that, the temps in my room have been up and down and my AC has been working overtime. This caused the temps in my FC to rise slightly to around 72 and 73.
I typed all that to bring the question of my observation. Of course it was 10 days and I saw the first few pins, but now, with the temp increase, there are more pins and tiny pins everywhere. Could this be because of the temp increase? This also caused the RH in the FC to drop from a high 97% to 93%. This could be because of the formation of pins?
Thanks in advance for playing along.

Is it not ok to enter a particular observation for discussion on a forum that was designed for discussion?
I mean, it's not like anybody gets notified when something is posted right? The post can either be clicked on or bypassed. Besides, it's something someone else can read later if they need to know the same thing.

Higher temps will make myc grow faster but can also help the bad stuff grow faster too…if it gets upper 80’s or higher i believe it can be harmful to the myc, i may be wrong on that number so don’t quote me
Dunno what my brothers problem is, prob just having a bad day

I can understand that. I have those kinds of days too. Hope it gets much better for them.
I agree. 80s is good for colonizing, but high 80s and the bad stuff increases like you mentioned. It's a comfortable 70 in my FC and everything seems happy.
Thanks for the feedback bro.
