Questions about best sterile practice with Petris

So I have some questions about nuances when handling Petri dishes. I’ve watched the RR vids, I’ve read everything I could find, but I’m still not sure of best practice in a couple areas.
1. When I finish pouring, I leave them stacked for a few hours in front of the ffu to cool before slipping the sleeves back over the stacks. Once I do this, I fold the bottom of the sleeve back under the stack and just leave them on my FFU work table. When I go to use them, I wipe the sleeve down with alcohol before removing plates. Is this necessary? Is there a better process?
2. When I inoculate a plate I wrap in parafilm and label with a sharpie. When I go to transfer, I wipe down the Petri with alcohol before removing the parafilm. This typically wipes off my labeling. Is this wiping down of the sealed dish necessary? What do people do regarding the labels? Is there a better marker?
Thanks for helping me keep my sterile agar work the best it can be!

Regarding the second point, I started scratching a mark on with a sharp object.
For example I recently inoculated 5 plates with some colombian multispore.
So I scratched CM1, CM2, CM3, CM4, CM5 onto the plates, and then wrote that down in a spreadsheet.
I'm not sure how that would work for others, but it only takes a few seconds on each plate and theres no chance of confusion once done.

not all markers are equal
I had the same problem always, started using a different brand of marker, now it holds up mostly well. It still can be wiped off if you employ added rigor but stays on enough with just the sanitization with iso
and yes wiping the petris down is standard IMHO, they gonna be covered in all kinds of dust from your environment
as to your first question I am in the SAB so can't really contribute an answer but it sounds like you have it right to me
nice one

Your process seems solid and almost identical to mine. When I do transfers of multiple cultures/generations/etc I'll make notecards with the label info and just stack the appropriate plates on each card. Once I'm done with a group of transfers I'll wrap & label them with the info from the card.

I thought this might be a good solution to my dilemma. Was hoping there was a more permanent marker type solution out there, but this will do.

Those are exactly what I use. Seems like it never wipes off glass jars, but on plates it wipes off easily with ISO.

Why are you spraying your plates? I just fold a paper towel soaked in alcohol around the rim of the plate before I use it. I don't need to have the top and bottom of the plates clean because that is not where I am putting the transfer.
Apologies if I am missing the issue.

This is exactly what I’m trying to understand.
When I open a plate to take a transfer out, I wipe down the plate before working in front of the FFU to keep any contams from blowing off the dish into my clean work environment. This washes of my label.
I did what I should have done before asking this question, and found jetpens.com.
Just ordered some of these:

Hopefully this does the trick.

I don't even spray, I just ISO wipe all my donor plates before removing parafilm in front of my FFU because they are stored in a 'dirty' area. That wiping is often enough to remove all labelling on my plates and hence the notecards were used to help avoid mislabelling issues. I'm certainly down to try a new marker brand if there's one that works better.

I ordered the ones I linked above. I’ll post on my findings, but the description says it “shrugs of isopropyl” so I’m hoping for the best here.
