Bags vs Jars
    #27810224 - 06/07/22 09:19 PM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Hello,
I always see people working with bags now, and bags seem more advantageous than jars in every way.  However, recently, on this forum, someone told me I should be working with jars until I dial in my grow.
So, what is the advantage of jars I'm not seeing?

Advantages of jars is you can do smaller amounts to test out cultures or colonize really fast with agar. You don't lose as much if things go south. You don't have to buy bags. They sterilize faster.

I use both. It just depends on the situation.

I'm about to try bags soon. So I fold the and they self seal? After they cool can I use an impulse sealer and then will hanging the bags let air back in?

I think you need an xl sab or flow hood to work with bags…maybe wrong but i don’t think i could open a bag to noc it up in my sab without suckin it giant amounts of air

If you're using bags before you've figured out the finer details of creating clean cultures and fruiting them, it may be an expensive learning process.
IMO if you're keeping up with your needs via jars, stick with them until you need more spawn than you can make in jars.  That will probable be about the same time you start shopping for a FH/FFU and a bigger/another PC if you expand things to that point.

Its a valid concern, but I dont see why not, I cut my bags with scissors, then drop the agar/grain into them.

This is a good point, the reusability of jars is a plus, and yes, it makes sense to get a clean jar, then g2g to bags.
