What am I not understanding about flowhoods here?

I've been planning on building a flow hood over the summer and ive planned to get a used furnace blower as teks suggest, but unfortunately I can't find any of the crazy deals you hear alot of people find. Still not that expensive, I could get an appropriate sized one for $150 without digging to every corner of the internet. I obviously see why that's suggested, it's a great idea if you've got access to blowers people dont value but I never really see any alternative suggestions.
I feel like I'm obviously missing or not fully understanding something cause all I'm thinking is why is everyone seeking those out used when you can get an industrial exhaust fan with 760cfm, the speed adjust dial, and closing shutters brand new for $55 on amazon? Hell, if you spend 70 you can get 1600cfm, although I very much doubt many people are making their hoods that big.
Anyways, I assume there's something wrong with that idea, otherwise I'd think other people would have done it. Anyone care to explain?

Who's everyone? Most use Dayton blowers. So.. Maybe it's an experience level thing. I just got banned from a group because I suggested that a box fan with some super cheap filter over it and some cardboard wings won't work. And that it's not LF.. Again. Second one in as many months. But naw, most look for controllable Dayton blowers. It's not going to be cheap. Real Laminar costs money. Bump that $50 Fan (😂😂) upto about $500 and you'll be closer to reality.

Huh, maybe I'll go with the box fan and used furnace filter.
And by everyone I just meant it appears everyone uses blowers and I was wondering if an exhaust fan would cause issues with creating laminar flow
